I was asked to make a going away gift for one of the bosses. I was given a demilitarized 20 mm barrel and told have at it. The base is Padauk with a Yellow Heart inlay. The scrolling in the yellowheart are the details. A 20 mm projectile is mounted at the end and inlayed coins of the units that worked for him. Can’t tell, but there is a laser etching of an F-16 on the left corner. It is piled with Teak oil and no sealing. The receiver schooled me in that Germans done seal their woods. Under the barrel are two risers made of Oak. Hope you guys and gals enjoy it.4 points

'Dig Me' valentine
meflick and 2 others reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
I am going to give this "card" to Margaret tomorrow morning: It's a Steve Good pattern that I used but I replaced Steve's wording. When our daughter Kathleen was 3 she, with her Grandmother's help, gave us some candies that looked like this to us for Valentines Day. The candies had various sayings on them and Kathleen thought that that saying "Dig Me" was very funny. I can certainly understand why a three year old would think that. She referred to all the candies of this type as 'Dig Me's and that's what our whole family has called them ever since. Yes, that type of candy still exists. I know that Margaret is going to love this. It triggers so many happy memories for both of us.3 points -

Ray, interesting videos. Thanks.1 point -
Harpolemond, Since I am not doing a live presentation I will not be doing a power point. This will be a Zoom presentation for club members only. Even when we were still meeting I usually just worked with an outline and winged it. The only time I did more formal presentations was at the Fox Chapel open houses. I used power point there. I am lucky to be a member of the Long Island Woodworkers club. It incorporates all forms of woodworking. We have several special interest groups S.I.G.s scrollers, turners, carvers cabinet makers etc. I have learned so much from this group. My learning curve was dramatically accelerated when I joined in 2002. We have scrollers that have been at it for over 60+ years. A bit of bragging here. We have a carver that has had several articles in Woodcarving Illustrated, Furniture makers in Fine woodworking magazine and there are three of us that do test cutting for SSWWC magazine. I have done a fair number of project for the magazine since 2010. I had no idea the this wonderful hobby has taken me where it has. Bottom line. If you have a local club join it, if you don't maybe form one.1 point

Another bandsaw thread - sorry :(

Well, rather than start YET ANOTHER bandsaw thread, I thought I'd just add to this one. I have been watching a lot of videos about marquetry since the topic has been brought to life. My point here is that in the process of viewing these videos, a video popped up on AccuSlice add-on for a band saw to produce whatever thickness veneer you might want. So, I just had to watch a video about it and it is really a neat system. Seems that it will fit just about any bandsaw that has a 3/4" miter slot. It's not cheap by any means but if a person is really into doing inlay or marquetry I can see where it would pay for itself. Of course, the quality of the bandsaw would matter greatly but if you have a decent 14" bandsaw and have it tuned with a good quality blade, I don't see why it wouldn't work very well. Here is a link to a couple of videos. I did go to their website to see pricing and as much other info as they offered. Enjoy. I did. I use Red Oak. Although thin oak can be fragile, I have no problem using it in certain applications, like as an overlay with a backer board. I’m getting ready to cut some dream catchers out of 3/4” Red Oak.1 point -
