  1. Here is what started out as one of Steve's patterns from a few years ago. I changed the words on the lower half. Cut from 3/4" Red Oak using #5 Pegas MGT blades.

  6. By easy I mean it's not one that'll take a few days to cut, but you'll need to because with some cuts, pieces easy to break off.

  7. I have four projects in progress right now, and I work on which ever one fits my mood of the day. Just having fun and doing nothing serious... Here is the one I have been working on today. It is a modification of an @alexfox pattern... Layered bird house pattern for a wall hanging,,, I thought it would make a cute real bird house.... This is my progress so far... The front of the bird house is Alex's pattern them I just have been building the house and this will be the front... I'm having a great time with it... I have to paint it now them glue the front together and attach it to the little house..

  8. I know that I have not posted for awhile but I have been in my shop quite a bit lately. I made and mailed some things before I took a photo of them so they are not available any longer. Here are a few of the ones that I have made. A couple I cut a while back and sold or gave away so I decided to recut them for myself. Dick heppnerguy

    Simple Eagle

Another pattern converted from a ZM Creations Illustration. Cut panel is 5/32” x 9” x 10 1/2” Maple solid core plywood affixed to a 1/4” x 11” x 12 1/2” backer. The backer panel border was painted with rattle can Krylon Fusion All-In-One Matt Fire Red, just to be different, and the areas under the pattern colored with Acrylic Art Paints, somewhat following the original illustration. As usual, I protected the panel with multiple coats of clear gloss spray Lacquer. This was a very quick cut using just one Pegas #1 MGT R Blade…amazing since I hardly ever get to use just one blade on a project, I break a lot. And, once again, a simple 1 3/4” wide Poplar frame that I applied a coat of pre-stain conditioner followed by a coat of Minwax Classic Grey and protected with coat of satin Wipe-On-Poly. In the pic the joints seem to be very pronounced but when viewing live they are not very noticeable. The lights seem to make them stand out in this color. Here is the original Illustration: For those who love to cut Eagles, here is the pattern Eagle - ZM Creations.pdf

  11. After seeing the post from Joe W. titled Nautilus Gear, I just had to make one. A quick - just for fun - project with every part made from Walnut and Pine scrap. Pegas #1 MGT R blade. And like Joe said "You can turn it in a complete circle over and over and . . . " Finished with spray Lacquer...it was fun trying to coat everything and not having it stick the moving parts to the stand . Sorry about the clinging dust in the pics.

    Thanks Travis

A few weeks ago @Travis added a project workshop feature to the site that has directions to go along with a project. I liked his love sign and shared it with my high school kids. Three of the kids decided to make a version, of course being kids only one used the word love. Another student was playing around and made a compound cut puzzle. I had never shown him any compound cutting, he just was experimenting. I am excited to see what else these kids make.

  14. Bird houses do not require perches. Quote from "The Definitive Guide to Building Your Own Birdhouses" "DO NOT put perches on any birdhouse. Only house sparrows and European starlings prefer perches. If you have a house with a perch, remove the perch."

  15. We don't camp any more, so I give all my scrap wood ( too small to make anything with) to my neighbor who has a weekly camp fire in his back yard for his kids and grandkids he dond't care how small they are they all burn. so;me times he gets a lot and some times he don't get much. IKE

  17. Know what you are saying,,,, It will be up to real birds to decide, they can make up their own minds. I have studied about bird houses... the hole size is not correct of the smaller birds, but I have never seen a bird with a tape measure checking... I could easily put dowel in and may,, but, if not the correct size hole, no bird will use it and no cleaning necessary, the bottom I plan on attaching with screws for cleaning,,, I am member of the Audubon Society... but this is probably never going to be hung in a tree.

    Newest items

Things have been pretty busy doing shows and figured I'd share some of the newest things we've created. Me and the wife and oldest daughter all cut and we do 30+ crafts how's a year here in Florida. During the cooler months from October - April you can usually do a big 2-4 day show every weekend if you wanted to. This past weekend we did a Strawberry Fest (2day event) and it was a record weekend broke my gross sales record (4day event) by $200 so it was a great weekend and it seems things are running good and back to normal here in Florida. Just keeping up with inventory some days can be stressful while working fulltime jobs still but we're having fun and making money together as a family so it isn't to bad. Cutting so much I had to come up with a bigger drying rack for puzzles. On average we're cutting 50 puzzles a week. Thank fully the Florida sun has been out so they dry pretty quick. We did a Strawberry Fest last weekend and they asked everyone have a Strawberry related item for sale. I work at a high school and talked with one of the students in art class and she drew me a pattern for a strawberry puzzle. Turned out great and now she's drawing a few other items for me and she's happy because she's making some extra spending money. I have a Seafood Festival in May and a good friend suggested I cut some fish out so did some Google images searches for a redfish and snook and we cut them out he came up with the idea of mounting them on some wood with dowel rods and they turned out awesome. Also cut some bigger fish around 25 inches long as wall hangers and they went over well just done have any pics.

  24. I had some bad vibrations problems that I solved with good, solid structure and mass. My original stand looked like an I beam made from 3/4" BB plywood. The top flexed too much and caused wicked vibrations at certain speeds. My new stand has a top made from 2x4 laminated together butcher block style. It doesn't flex and is heavy. I built a cabinet frame from 2x4 and skinned it with 1/4 ply. Its on casters for ease of movement. If you go the 4 caster/leg route be dead certain they are even or use adjustable feet. Its heavy enough and rigid enough that no more vibrations occur; and the cabinet underneath has a big storage space and a drawer for holding blades.

  25. very nice job and a great idea with the bird house

  26. Very nice work with those bird houses. I've two plain old bird houses on the front of my house and I've had 2 broods of Coal Tits a year {about 7 to 9 eggs each time} for many years. Coal Tits will not use a nest box with a perch on the front, other breeds wont use a nest box unless there is a perch so adjust the box to try and attract the audience your interested in. My second bird house does not get a resident each year because the Coal Tits get territorial after they move in and chase off anyone who looks like they might move into the neighborhood, and its ten times worse if that new interloper is another Coal Tit. Its only used by occasional visitors who need an escape from bad weather for the night.

  27. This is beautiful! I am going to see what I can cobble together with what I have in the shop, but I'll definitely check this out, too.

  28. Seems obvious now that you say that. I was going to build two to accommodate a future saw purchase, but I may just see how well I like the first build. If I'm being honest about my patience level, bring out the angle grinder is not out of the question at all. Brilliant Scrappile.

  29. This is good advice and I'm rethinking my setup. My saw is currently in the same shop I do chainsaw carving, so I gave up on perfect dust control in there. I may have underestimated the dust control needed in my basement room. I'll scour this forum and see what others have done. thank you! This is amazing. I think I like building things for my shop as much as making things in my shop. Now I need to go to the boss to discuss increasing my budget How quiet is your dust collection setup? I'll be in the basement, but I do most of my work after everyone has gone to bed.

  31. Right, It's hard to get into those price brackets unless you buy a lot of tools and or lumber.. LOL.. having this CNC helps me spend a lot of money with them.. buying bits, add-ons etc... and you can scrap a lot of lumber in one day if you don't know how to use the CNC correctly.. also can scrap $50 - 75 bits in 2 seconds if you don't know what you're doing.. don't ask how I know these things.. Not really wanting to tell the stories, Hahahaha.. Lately I've made a lot of high dollar campfire wood.. should have plenty of wood to have smores every night this summer.. probably should start burning now so I can get rid of it all, LOL

  33. The hole is 1 1/2" but it could be any size you want...

  34. That looks great Paul and a great idea! How big is the hole? It might make a good clock if the hole can be adjusted to 1 3/8” to fit a clock fit up.

  36. Great idea and beautiful work on both the scroll work and bird house. Of course you aren't going to let any real birds use it...right? If you are going to use it as a real BH, make sure the bottom is a hinged trap door so it can be cleaned out and you need to provide a dowel on the front for a pearch. And dont forget to finish it with a non toxic finish that will stand up to the weather. A while back I made 8 bird houses (no scroll work) for my DIL with different size holes for different kinds of birds. I used untreated cedar so I did not have to worry about a finish. I had done a lot of research on what bird houses need to have.

  42. The first pic of my EX 21 with the wheels outboard is going to get the Oreck vac. We'll see how that works out. A lot bigger unit to contend with. Both stands are identical in size/shape but I mounted the wheels on the EX 16 inboard to cut down on the footprint. I may move them outboard if it seems unstable. They both move around very easy with my wheelbarrow handles. I like the idea of having one that I can do marquetry on and keep the table tilted while being able to make stuff on the other one in a conventional manner.

  45. I built a rolling cart for mine. However, it's not necessarily "regular" chair height IMO as long as you build your stand solid, the vibrations should be minimal if at all I believe @octoolguy posted plans for short stand a while ago made out of 2x4's I believe Looked pretty solid. May want to do a search Here I think is a pic of a stand that looks quite sturdy

  47. About ninety percent of the wood used on my projects is recycled. It is wood panels they reject from a local company. They put them on the lot for anyone to get. Most people use it for firewood, but I use it for my projects. The kicker is that the company I get it from is a casket company.
    1 point
  48. I have used a lot of wood wine boxes that a local liquor stores throws out,if the wood has French,Italian,or Spanish.writing or images on one side I leave it on the back of the project for a cool look.I have used mahogany wood from an old dresser, oak and maple from old torn up flooring, cedar from an old fence for different cuttings.Did I mention I'm a bit frugal?? 49. I am a teacher and just the other day I was working with a grade 7 class, the students were assigned the task of brainstorming the idea of recycling things that are not normally recycled. Amoung the many suggestions offered one student suggested that broken hockey sticks would be a good item. When asked, What could you do with a broken hockey stick? One suggestion was, where hockey sticks are made of hardwood they would be good for crafts or made into toys. Then of course I had to explain that I made things out of hardwood as a hobby and that I now had a new source of material. What a wonderful idea and what a coincidence that you should post such a question..
