  1. Being that I am a cheapskate wood worker that just Hates to waste wood, I have started to accumulate too many tiny pieces of scrap wood, I challenged myself today. I made two tiny little Raindeer out of some laminated Purpleheart and a wood that I don't know what species. The blocks were so small that it was hard to keep them from dipping into the cut out for the blade in the table for my RBI Hawk Scroll Saw. I cut the little Raindeer out using a size 0 blade that is 0.009" thick by 0.024 wide and has 33 teeth per inch. : Dick

  4. Thanks again Paul for another great pattern, I have now cut them both. This one took a little longer than the other but the result is well worth it, I hope you agree. Again many, many thanks for these great patterns. take care and stay safe Don W

  5. I cut a new friend this motorcycle, as he is a rider and has a nice bike. I hadn't really seen it in person when I choose this one to cut for him and it was not like the one he owns. I told him I would look for another one that matched his bike better and that he did not have to take this one if he really didn't want it. He was more than delighted with this one and I was able to find another pattern that matched his bike almost to a tee. I finished it this week and he was so pleased and happy to have it. I forgot to take a photo of it but next week when I get back home from Oregon I will have him send me a photo of it and I will post it too. Dick heppnerguy

  6. By easy I mean it's not one that'll take a few days to cut, but you'll need to because with some cuts, pieces easy to break off.

  12. Hi everyone I have just joined here about 1 hour ago. I live right down the bottom south of Western Australia. I am new to the scroll saw. I have only been cutting out the basic animal shapes so far but now I am ready to take myelf to another level. I am only starting out with a Ryobi scroll saw RSW124G it will do me for now. Once I know what I am doing then I will upgrade to a good one. I have been watching scroll saw village videos on utube all day eyes glued to it lol and also a lot of Steve Good videos. I am really enjoying the scroll saw village tutorials using Inkscape. I also do Wood burning Pryography art and I am wanting to in time incorporate the two together. I would love to learn how to create my own 3d layered light shadow box designs using Inkscape. I havnt yet to find any tutorials on how to do these using inkscape but im still looking. Here is my very fist cut out I did the other day first time in taking my blade off and on and having to do the tension of the blade to cut out the inside parts. Its a bit rough as Im still sanding the edges down smooth. I am going to do some woodburning quote on the bottom of him. So far im feeling pleased with myself with my fisrt one like this. I really enjoyed doing it. One lesson I learnt was dont have a coffee to close when cutting, floating dust in coffee is not nice hahahaha. I am looking forward to learning heaps from you all in here. Have a fun everyone as thats what it is all about

  13. I know that I have not posted for awhile but I have been in my shop quite a bit lately. I made and mailed some things before I took a photo of them so they are not available any longer. Here are a few of the ones that I have made. A couple I cut a while back and sold or gave away so I decided to recut them for myself. Dick heppnerguy

    Simple Eagle

Another pattern converted from a ZM Creations Illustration. Cut panel is 5/32” x 9” x 10 1/2” Maple solid core plywood affixed to a 1/4” x 11” x 12 1/2” backer. The backer panel border was painted with rattle can Krylon Fusion All-In-One Matt Fire Red, just to be different, and the areas under the pattern colored with Acrylic Art Paints, somewhat following the original illustration. As usual, I protected the panel with multiple coats of clear gloss spray Lacquer. This was a very quick cut using just one Pegas #1 MGT R Blade…amazing since I hardly ever get to use just one blade on a project, I break a lot. And, once again, a simple 1 3/4” wide Poplar frame that I applied a coat of pre-stain conditioner followed by a coat of Minwax Classic Grey and protected with coat of satin Wipe-On-Poly. In the pic the joints seem to be very pronounced but when viewing live they are not very noticeable. The lights seem to make them stand out in this color. Here is the original Illustration: For those who love to cut Eagles, here is the pattern Eagle - ZM Creations.pdf

    Newest items

Things have been pretty busy doing shows and figured I'd share some of the newest things we've created. Me and the wife and oldest daughter all cut and we do 30+ crafts how's a year here in Florida. During the cooler months from October - April you can usually do a big 2-4 day show every weekend if you wanted to. This past weekend we did a Strawberry Fest (2day event) and it was a record weekend broke my gross sales record (4day event) by $200 so it was a great weekend and it seems things are running good and back to normal here in Florida. Just keeping up with inventory some days can be stressful while working fulltime jobs still but we're having fun and making money together as a family so it isn't to bad. Cutting so much I had to come up with a bigger drying rack for puzzles. On average we're cutting 50 puzzles a week. Thank fully the Florida sun has been out so they dry pretty quick. We did a Strawberry Fest last weekend and they asked everyone have a Strawberry related item for sale. I work at a high school and talked with one of the students in art class and she drew me a pattern for a strawberry puzzle. Turned out great and now she's drawing a few other items for me and she's happy because she's making some extra spending money. I have a Seafood Festival in May and a good friend suggested I cut some fish out so did some Google images searches for a redfish and snook and we cut them out he came up with the idea of mounting them on some wood with dowel rods and they turned out awesome. Also cut some bigger fish around 25 inches long as wall hangers and they went over well just done have any pics.

  17. I went to my lumber a=yard to get some BB ply and they were out so Idd3ecded to look around. they had a staack of 8 ft popular marked down to $275 pr board ft. Well wlhat can I get it for he said tat there was a little over 50 BF.and I could have it for $125 I agreed tp that and bought 8 ft of 6" soft maple for $37 I knew I had a good deal and I figured it out @ 53 board ft . They were of random with 3<5 the smallest and 12" the largest, any way I got the 53BF for $2.35 a BF at regulaar price they would have been $165.00 IKE

  24. I have four projects in progress right now, and I work on which ever one fits my mood of the day. Just having fun and doing nothing serious... Here is the one I have been working on today. It is a modification of an @alexfox pattern... Layered bird house pattern for a wall hanging,,, I thought it would make a cute real bird house.... This is my progress so far... The front of the bird house is Alex's pattern them I just have been building the house and this will be the front... I'm having a great time with it... I have to paint it now them glue the front together and attach it to the little house..

  34. I'm done,,, no more painting,,,, enough it enough... I will put a spray clear finish on it just for some protection. This would not hold up as an outdoor birdhouse..It is not the correct paint for it,,, maybe would work in a well protected location... But,,,, well ,,, it was fun.

    Dust collector

Improved the dust collector. I added a Winn Environmental air filter that replaced the bag on top of the DC. Even better filtering, and a huge increase in suction. I was pleasantly surprised at the increase in air flow to my machines.

  37. Welcome to the Village from the East Coast of Central Florida, USA. Cute little cut you did there...looks great. For a freebee, Inkscape is a very powerful program, but not intuitive at all. In addition to learning what the basic buttons and commands do, learn how to insert an image and how to use the "Trace Bitmap" command found under "Path". Also learn how to change line weight and colors of stroke and fill. I found I can do a lot with just knowing how to work with these commands. Looking forward to seeing more work from you.

  43. octoolguy described a BF correctly early on herein. However, a BF is usualy based on rough sawn dimensions. So when you pay by the BF for say "a dressed 1X6" you are paying for the waste and getting only 3/4 X 5 1/2. Lumber yards that sell dressed lumber ususally sell by the LF (linear foot) and the price per LF may vary based on the length of boards available. Some specially lumber providers sell rough sawn material priced by the BF for the various spiecies. This can be quite cheap but they will charge for planing services over and above the BF price. This can be as much as an extra $1/bf. Rough sawn is only great if you own a planer and can plane you own material to the thicknesses you want. You really can not equate BF prices to stock dressed lumber, but need to compare LF pricing.

  45. Go for it! Nothing is going to fly out at you. Just nuts and bolts. And you have us to fall back on if you need help. Once you get under that switch housing, you'll see that it's very easy. Get yourself a can of Valvoline synthetic grease and some pipe cleaners and just start greasing everything that moves.
