  1. Pattern by H.Botas. Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson. Cut in 1/2" red oak, rough cut cedar backer stained Special Walnut. If you haven't heard their song "Lay Me Down" I put the link below. Worth listening to. Loretta Lynn - Lay Me Down (Official Music Video) ft. Willie Nelson - YouTube

  2. Four Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments finished and ready to display. The birdhouses are Ash and the little birds are Purple Heart. I used Pegas #7 Skip blades on the birdhouses and #5 Skip blades on the little birds. The finish is dipping in Shellac further diluted with 50% denatured alcohol. Comments welcome.

    Spy Message Decoder

OK, it's not a cat, but it could encrypt a message with the word cat in it . . . along with "be sure to drink your Ovaltine". My wife and I do Geocaching, an activity that can include solving a puzzle in order to get information (GPS coordinates) that will lead you to a hidden container with a logbook where you sign your name. I know, sounds dumb, but we have enjoyed it going on 14 years now and have had a lot of wonderful experiences, met lot of nice people, and seen a lot of sights in the USA and overseas. Anyway, I took this Steve Good pattern and beefed it up a bit - made it 150% of original size - now roughly 15 inches by 7 inches and used 1/2 inch wood with 1/4 inch for the dials. I tried the 1/8 inch but it just wasn't holding up to the handling. I probably violated some scroll saw etiquette by using wood screws to hold the case together but wanted it to endure the handling it will likely get over time. It was fun to make, but I did learn a little more about the things you have to take into consideration when you enlarge a pattern - like hole size enlarges too (sheeze, head slap!)

  4. Hello friends, I hope you are all well. Well now I am trying to experiment with another way of selling. I know it is not scroll saw, however I think many will like it because it has kittens as pets. Hopefully and it is a good business, since in this pandemic we have suffered from the lack of sales and it has affected everyone. I send each of you a big hug, greetings from Puebla, Mexico. video1.mp4

  11. The first picture (the cat) is the very first thing I ever cut with a scroll saw. I had never done any woodwork using a pattern, I wasn't even sure how the scroll saw, a WEN, operated! I was pleased how it turned out, I could tell what it was and it wasn't all cut up looking like a 3 year old got ahold of it. So off down the scroll saw art road I went, and I've loved every minute of it...well, maybe not the "designer firewood" pieces LOL. It is standing on the urn of our cat Boo. After 14 years we had to send him across the Rainbow Bridge about a year ago. I made the "Forever In Our Hearts" for him last summer. The next two pictures are some of the puzzles I sell at craft shows, I'm one of Iggy's Puzzle Zombies. The "CAT" one sells very well.

  23. Story time! When I first started scroll sawing, I started a blog called Scroll Saw Goodies where I posted resources and tutorials. I also started making a few videos on YouTube under the same name and sold a few patterns. Eventually, this lead me to creating Scroll Saw Village. I've always kept the two separate. But, as you can imagine, maintaining two websites is a lot of work. So I've been working on a new section on SSV where I'm going to port over some of these older projects. I created a few new areas: Project Workshop - These are project videos. These tutorials take you step-by-step as I build a scroll sawn project. I'm going to try to include written instructions as well. I'll be adding a variety of projects over time, too. Everybody has free access to this. It's also be posted on YouTube and probably FaceBook. Project Workshop Patterns - I used to sell patterns that I used on my blog. But it's tough to have the patterns in two places. So, instead of selling them individually, I'm going to give free access to SSV Patrons as a thank you for supporting SSV. Design Workshop - This area is is for design tutorials. Usually, these will be tutorials on how I designed the pattern used in the Project Workshop. But I'll also have other design tutorials, too. This is for folks who are interested in the design process. Access to these tutorials are for SSV Silver & Gold Patrons. Again, thank you for supporting SSV! I've been messing with these sections for about 6 weeks now, and I think I have it ready for prime time. This is an experiment that I'm hoping folks will enjoy. Anyway, here is the first project. I'll be porting over the older ones soon. Enjoy!

  24. I made this for Julia, as it's our 32nd wedding anniversary today, it's funny but it only seems like 99 years ago we tied the knot lol Steve Good pattern once again, altered it from filigree top to inlay, wood 1 1/4" Mahogany body and 1/4" inlay, and 1/4 Oak for top and bottom P.S. the bonus with this is the Mahogany I cut the inlay from will make a filigree top for another box.

    Kokopelli

This is a Sue Mey pattern but I changed the base because I didn't like the big large round base I prefer the smaller oval one. The base is pine and Kokopelli is blackheart sassafras. This one is for me, I have loved this little fellow every since I first saw him about 20 years ago. Marg

  32. March: Will it be "In Like A Lion and Out Like A Lamb?" Or will it be "In Like a Lamb and Out Like A Lion?" Regardless, this month scroll saw challenge is about big cats. A popular genre in scroll sawing, so it's time to show them off. Or maybe King of the Jungle cats aren't your thing? Post the King of the House instead with kittens and cat projects. That's what the internet is for, right? Cat pictures? Can't wait to see what you come up with.

    Newest items

Things have been pretty busy doing shows and figured I'd share some of the newest things we've created. Me and the wife and oldest daughter all cut and we do 30+ crafts how's a year here in Florida. During the cooler months from October - April you can usually do a big 2-4 day show every weekend if you wanted to. This past weekend we did a Strawberry Fest (2day event) and it was a record weekend broke my gross sales record (4day event) by $200 so it was a great weekend and it seems things are running good and back to normal here in Florida. Just keeping up with inventory some days can be stressful while working fulltime jobs still but we're having fun and making money together as a family so it isn't to bad. Cutting so much I had to come up with a bigger drying rack for puzzles. On average we're cutting 50 puzzles a week. Thank fully the Florida sun has been out so they dry pretty quick. We did a Strawberry Fest last weekend and they asked everyone have a Strawberry related item for sale. I work at a high school and talked with one of the students in art class and she drew me a pattern for a strawberry puzzle. Turned out great and now she's drawing a few other items for me and she's happy because she's making some extra spending money. I have a Seafood Festival in May and a good friend suggested I cut some fish out so did some Google images searches for a redfish and snook and we cut them out he came up with the idea of mounting them on some wood with dowel rods and they turned out awesome. Also cut some bigger fish around 25 inches long as wall hangers and they went over well just done have any pics.
