Inspired by @wombatie's cell phone holder I decided my shop needed a Kokopelli on the wall.

    Return to Venice

I recently did a Venice scene cutting and happened to be scrolling through Pinterest and found another scene I really liked and had more detailed. I especially like the Rialto Bridge in the back ground. Lots of very thin lines in this pattern and did some mods on the fly so things didn't break. I also did my paint fill in technique on some of the dark spaces to match the background.

    Compliment !!??

Do you remember me putting my 'Pegasus' in the 'Bragging' section earlier this week ? Well I shared it with another group on Facebook and got asked this.... Have you cut that out yet or is it a stencil.... ??? I'm not sure whether to be flattered or offended.

  6. While I was finishing up my Double Trouble project a while ago, my Lady (Robin) had seen a magazine with pictures of beautiful ladies fans on the cover and ask me if I could do a cutting of a fan. The fans in the picture were very ornate and they were not suitable for making a pattern, so I went hunting for fan patterns. I found four on the Sue May web site. I did not feel only one fan would make a nice presentation so I decided to do all four and present them as a group. Yes four individual patterns but over 500 holes in total. One panel was done in one 3-4 hour cutting session using both Pegas #0 Spiral and #2/0 MGT R Blades. Four days total. All cuttings and backers were cut from 1/8” BB Ply, painted with various colors of Krylon Fusion All-In-One rattle can spray paints to “sort-of” match the colors shown in the Sue May Patterns. I use 1/4” Birch plywood to create a colored 18” x 24” full backer that the individual fan panels were affixed to. This full backer was set loose into a custom made frame cut from pre-primed Brick Mold available from Lowes. When the better half asks for something you just got to drop everything get it done as soon as possible. When she is happy, I’m happy. Now I can go back to my projects.

Brenda, I have had that happen to me recently. I scrolled some words to go behind a desk and when the pilots look at it, they say "cool decal". I then have to explain that it isnt a decal, but cut out of wood. Then I watch thier heads explode. its worth it.

  9. By easy I mean it's not one that'll take a few days to cut, but you'll need to because with some cuts, pieces easy to break off.

  12. I cut a new friend this motorcycle, as he is a rider and has a nice bike. I hadn't really seen it in person when I choose this one to cut for him and it was not like the one he owns. I told him I would look for another one that matched his bike better and that he did not have to take this one if he really didn't want it. He was more than delighted with this one and I was able to find another pattern that matched his bike almost to a tee. I finished it this week and he was so pleased and happy to have it. I forgot to take a photo of it but next week when I get back home from Oregon I will have him send me a photo of it and I will post it too. Dick heppnerguy

    Misty Magnifier

Since I added the dust collection to my saws instead of the blower I no longer wear a mask when cutting. I know the dust collection is effective because I can't even smell the the baltic birch anymore when I cut it. The HEPA filter in my Festool MIDI is great. I used to wear a half mask because I couldn't stand the smell. I also wear glasses so I am not that close to the magnifier.

    Hum-ah Hum-ah!

With a title like that, how could you resist looking?! I'm buried in Steve Good patterns and cutting my way out. Anyway, we have a friend who loves hummingbirds, so I made this for her. 3/4 inch pine (called for 1/2 inch but I didn't have any on hand) using #5ST Pegas blades. Now to ponder a backing color. And thanks to all of you in the Village for being here and sharing your knowledge. It has helped me greatly.

Have ago at one of these Tony. When I made them, I couldn't keep up with people wanting them for 1st Birthdays. The War Office was the biggest customer, whenever we had a niece or Nephew it was, " John do you have the letters to make up xxxx" The base is about 100mm long on the letter carriages, and made from 40 x 19 pine. The letters are cut from 75 x 19 pine. You don't have to have an engine pulling the carriages, I also had a truck and a Volkswagon beetle. Painted with household acrylics. Also a couple of "Wobblers" a dog and crocodile. I also did a cat and cow Have fun mate.

And it works! You can turn it in a complete circle over and over and . . . Saw this on Steve Good's website and it grabbed me right away. What should have been a one day project turned into 3 - Murphy's Law paid me a visit with the tension knob not tightening. It's doing its job now, but I need to order a new one. The underside where the tension rod is - well, the indentations that the tension rod sleeve catches on were just about worn smooth. I noticed if I apply downward pressure while applying tension, it will tighten up just fine. If I just move the tension knob horizontally, it doesn't take up the tension like it is supposed to. Anyway, I had a happy ending once I got that sorted out. Thinking of staining/painting the support and base a darker color and just doing a clear coat on the shells.

    Kokopelli

This is a Sue Mey pattern but I changed the base because I didn't like the big large round base I prefer the smaller oval one. The base is pine and Kokopelli is blackheart sassafras. This one is for me, I have loved this little fellow every since I first saw him about 20 years ago. Marg

    Woven Basket

Another Steve Good pattern (he is so good to us scrollers), although he suggests 1/2" timber for the basket, I used 1 1/4" Mahogany as I have lots at hand, the top and bottom are as Steve suggests 1/4" again Mahogany, this has come out at 5" tall 5 3/4 long and 4 1/2 deep ( I did enlarge the pattern slightly), not sure what it will used for yet, but I'm sure something will come to mind

  46. I lived in Florida for 8 years in the new Port Richey area. I did enjoy my time there, but eventually moved back north. Those summer temps of 95 daily and rain every day, plus the 95 percent humidity finally did me in. They were just too brutal for me. However, I did enjoy the Gulf fishing for Grouper and Red Snapper. The winters were very nice too.

  49. Beautifuly cut. Would be very nice to hang in a lodge or the like up north. But looking at it now, all I see is snow, and the reason I moved South to Florida.
