    Almost my last one.

This one almost broke me. My son in law asked for it for his birthday, yeah no problem says I. Well after cutting the back twice and the front twice, I almost said no more I give up, yes I was ready to walk away from scrolling, it just got to me. I cut the back and started to spray it but the paint bubbled, so I let it dry and sanded it off. I resprayed and it bubbled again, so I went to buy some more paint only to find out that that color was no longer made. I ended up buying engine paint. That worked fine. I cut and painted the front and cut the cardboard center and then the day before his birthday I went to put it all together. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, the front was too big for the back. Somehow one of the patterns that should have gone in the recycling ended up being cut, so I had to cut another piece. The only one I had no problems with was the cardboard center. Well it all done now and I will give it to him on Sunday.....He had better like it. The back is 3/4 inch pine and the front is 3mm ply. I used Olson Mack 3 blades for the back and Reverse Tooth 2/0 on the ply. Oh and the pattern was by scrollarific. Marg

    puzzle

I have cut a bunch of puzzles for gifts lately .. many for the grandkids and many for family and friends This is the largest I have attempted to date. It is 16" x 20" using 1/4" BB (285 pieces cut out on Hegner using FD PSR #2/0) I just used a cell phone snapshot that I had enlarged. Lol! Anyhow.. I used the divide and conquer technique (cut it out in sections...)

  6. I seem to have blinkers on at the moment, if it's not a box I don't see it, it might have something to do with the amount of 1 1/2" inch mahogany and 2" Oak I've had given me, they lend well to boxes lol, this one is mahogany top and bottom, Oak for the draw and Maple for the inlay, it is 2 inches high and 5 inch wide, the draw is 1 and a half inches high by 1 inch wide, Steve's pattern was for a glued on humming bird and flowers, but I altered it to an inlayed one, disappointed slightly with the birds tail, but as long as you don't all look at the original pattern I might just get away with it LOL

  9. Quick, fun cut. Not a lot of sharp angles, he's mostly flowing curves. Probably not one to hang up in the kids' room. 1/4" bbply, Pegas #2/0 MG blades.

    Welcome Sign

"Welcome" sign finished. The pattern is by Keith Fenton and found in CWWC March 2014. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 and #5 Skip blades. The wood is 1/2" Poplar 8" x 14" and backed with Baltic Birch plywood stained blue. Comments welcome.

  14. Followup on my previous Guess who. Although I'm not particulary into cutting people portraits, I had found this free illustration pattern .svg of Marilyn on-line and thought I would give it a try. And , although it was stated to be a scroll saw pattern, it had many "islands" and overlapping shading. It took me a number of hours to make it cutable. The patternsize is 9" x 13" centered on a 5/32" x 12" x 16" Birch solid core plywood panel and affixed to a 1/8" x 12" x 16" BB ply backer painted black. The pattern was a relatively quick cut completed with Pegas #2/0 blade. The finished panel was protected with multiple coats of clear gloss Lacquer. The panel is set loose in a simple 1 3/4" wide Poplar custom frame that is stained with Minwax Sedona Red and protected witn clear satin spray Polyurethane. Thanks to all who replied to the previous post and reccognized her immediately just from jsut her eyes. . .

  24. My wife works from home and we were joking around one day about me being in her office. She jokingly said my office was in the garage. This is the results. She was sending a little sign to the landfill when I saw it and stopped her. I'll take that and anything like that. When pealing off the pattern I saw the letters and left them the way they were. I was going to paint them white.

  29. I cut these out of BBP with a FD UR1. The backer is some 1/8 scrap cheap ply that I had laying around. The first one I done several months ago. A co-worker saw it and wanted one. I made another but just a bit bigger. I'm not a frame maker.. at all! I found another similar image online that I wanted to cut but it needed some tweaking. Thanks for the help Birchbark!

    Beer Truck

Made from scrap cedar. fence boards- all rescued wood. About 15 inches long-8" wide and 9" tall without the load. Used scrollsaw, sander, and cutoff saws too. The front and back fenders came from the scrap box and were just sanded- cuts from some other project. As this was for me- I decided I wanted a cab-over-engine- in a 20's -30's theme. The color choice was also to fit the era. I had to add an extra taillight to meet modern legalities. The hubcaps and headlight are just thumb tacks that were brass colored- the taillights are the same tacks started in through a little masking tape-then colored with nail polish- when it was dry I used a piece of soft cloth and a wooden hammer to drive them almost totally in. Then pulled the tape and finished the setting them in solid. Oh it also fits many planters too, actually has drain holes on the bottom for planter watering accidents. Design again by T & E Designs.

Thanks! Saw this quote from Denzell Washington that says pretty much what you just said. "If I am a cup maker, I'm interested in making the best cup I possibly can. My effort goes into that cup, not what people think about it." I think I'm much happier with the hobby since I don't sell things and get to make what makes me happy. Happy Spring!

    Coast Guard piece

I cut them out of those little pieces of scrap we dont know what to do with but dont want to throw away. Then I glue them on. No special trick to it. I use a #73 drill bit and a 2/0 jewelers blade. The blades dont have reverse teeth but have a ton of regular teeth so you can get really nice intricate cuts. The down side is the back side will be really ragged. To prevent this, I have learned to tape 2 pieces of 1/8" bb together on top of one another. Cuts will pretty much the same ease and the backside wont be ragged.
