From Barney's Bullet to a 7 Layered Butterfly. The Butterfly was a bit of a challenge. On 1 layer I forgot to cut a hole out,2nd layer I believe, didn't catch it until I was gluing it all together' I had to scrap to glue off and cut the hole in. Doesn't look to bad. Barney's Bullet was a Joy to cut. Big fan of Mayberry when Barney was a Deputy.3 points -

An interesting observation. I rarely use any spray adhesive, just my Xyron machine. The shelf liner is vinyl the spray glue has solvents. An interesting test would be to take a piece of the shelf paper and spray some of the adhesive directly on to it . See wjhat happens.2 points

I just received an email from Philadelphia furniture workshop, and they are offering a marquetry class that runs for a weekend if anyone interested. I was originally from that area, RJ https://www.philadelphiafurnitureworkshop.com/project-classes/the-art-of-marquetry1 point

I should have been more clear. I sometimes attach the pattern directly to the wood when doing Intarsia. I'm going to sand and shaped the piece so what little glue residue is left after applying mineral spirits is not really a problem. I never attach the pattern directly to the wood if I'm doing fretwork, way too messy. I always use a clear shelf liner first then attach the pattern with spray adhesive.1 point

I have tried the direct application of the spray adheasive to the wood to apply a pattern and then removal with mineral spirits. It works, but I find two things happen. One, adheasive is very difficult to remove completely requiring a significant amount of sanding and, Two, the mineral spirits actually change the color of the wood slightly, almost like a natural stain. I personally do not have any difficulty using the Duck Brand shelf liner I purchase at Walmart wich is much cheaper than using Blue Painters tape. Removal after cutting is not difficult as I sand my cut panel very well before applying the linner. After cutting, I need to do a bit of sanding on the rear side to clean up fuzzies, but little or none on the front side. And, I also often maintain the pattern attached to the panel until after the panel is affixed to the backer, especially whan I do coloring to the backer.1 point

I have cut a bunch of puzzles for gifts lately .. many for the grandkids and many for family and friends This is the largest I have attempted to date. It is 16" x 20" using 1/4" BB (285 pieces cut out on Hegner using FD PSR #2/0) I just used a cell phone snapshot that I had enlarged. Lol! Anyhow.. I used the divide and conquer technique (cut it out in sections...)1 point

Interesting that you asked that because the jigsaw pattern is a big deal even in the commercial world of puzzles. I got my pattern by doing an online puzzle with my own image which was solid white. The trick is do not complete the puzzle by adding the final piece because it will erase all your lines. Once you get to the last piece, do a screen capture. Here is what a screen shot of that would look like with the missing piece: I am going to eventually try my hand at using inkscape to make a better pattern with better variations similar to puzzles that I buy but that will take some time to master.1 point -

You make great patterns, but just wondering...when are you going to make some more of your great fretwok patterns like the Santa, Chineise Dragon and Eagle In Flag I did of yours? Might want to think about some of us more traditional scrollers that prefer the simpe, athough a lot more more intricate, one cut panel, portrait patterns.1 point

Many clock patterns can be downloaded. All you need is a printer. The issue for you may be where to get the clock parts. There must be somewhere in Australia that carry them? I found this in your part of the world. https://www.clockshop.com.au/parts/ They have clock inserts, clock movements, dials, hands etc. Good luck with your first clock. Ben1 point

simpley beautiful!! Iv tried making a few puzzles with pictures but usuly the corners of the cut out peaces tend to peal....I use modpodge to put the picture on the wood. could you tell me how you keep the pictures from pealig off the wood? Iv thought about putting the picture on the wood with the modpodge and then putting expoyreisn over that before cutting out the puzzle and see if that works... not sure how well the saw will cut through the wood with the expoy resin on it1 point -
