I did this out of cherry, and I have to say hanging it was the biggest problem. I ended up using the command adhesive hangers, not my favorite but I could not figure another way to get it close to the wall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    A pile of Junk

I made a big pile of Junk --and they love it! 25 x 18 overall I started with a 5 stack of 1/8 baltic cut with #5 and 3 Pegas mg blades to cut the junk pile -- the black is 3/8 and the letters 1/8 That pile thoroughly intimidated me from start to finish but it came out fairly close to my idea

    I experimented

I ran across a laser pattern and decided to give it a try. This is the prototype. Many lessons learned. The next one will be better. I used 5/16" b/bb that I had. Not the best stuff. Anyway, here it is.

  7. Hi everyone, I just want to give a big shout out to a few of the pattern makers and Especially Wayne Mahler for being able to cut all these out for me. Grampa Paul did a couple of the dog patterns for me. Wayne and Don from brookline did the teacher pattern for me. I couldn't decide which pattern to use so I went with Wayne's for the big one and Wayne was able to put Don's on a flat piece of wood for me. so it looks like a certificate. I had seven things that Wayne did for me but I wasn't able to take pictures of all of them. Maybe Wayne can put them on. I'll be so glad when I can start doing my own scroll saw work again. It's been eight months since I was on my scroll saw. One more week and I will be in Florida. The closing is the 16th. Yeah. Thanks again guys for all your help.

    Celtic projects

I like to make Celtic patterns - they have great 3D effect. Here is my new Celtic cross (top left) and my collection of Celtic projects Video of making Celtic cross Celtic patterns

  10. I made the lemming awhile ago. I though he would look even more cool with the lemming logo. Made cool spot to the left awhile a go as well. I belive i did him with a jig saw before my dad brought me a scroll saw..

  11. Well, since JoeW. started the brainteasers, I'll show a couple of those I've cut, plus a puzzle I did mostly on the table saw, back when I was just starting to discover woodworking (and had yet to really get into the scrolling side of things).

  15. Here is a Tiger I just finished. My daughter goes to the University of Memphis. Their mascot is a tiger and the school colors are blue and gray. That is why I painted the backer blue with a gray border. These colors appear to match the University colors pretty close. I used 1/4" maple plywood and cut most of it with a spiral blade. For the straight sections I switched blades to a straight one so I could cut a straighter line. Believe it or not, I did not break any of the whiskers when cutting. I saved them for almost last and had dreaded cutting them the whole time I was working in it. I made sure I had a fresh blade to reduce pressure in an attempt to not break the thin wood, and I got really, really lucky. The frame is maple that is stained Red Oak and sprayed with lacquer. The overall size with the frame is 17x20". The pattern is from Alex Fox and it said there are 447 holes. I'm not sure there are that many holes but I have not counted.

    First shelf

Thanks for the tips, I chose not to use a backer on this because I never could decide what color so the fisherman would not look wonky and stand out. In 20 20 hindsight I maybe should have used a backer on just the bottom half. Next time!

I put little rubber feet on the back of the stuff I hang to protect the paint on the walls. This leave enough room for the French cleats and holds the item to the wall.

How did you manage to find the owner and the pattern? That in itself is impressive. Designer is out of the country. Wow!

  28. I just finished cutting out another cupcake holder for my sister-in-law saw. And experienced the same thing you did using the Duck brand shelf liner - hard to release - had to use mineral spirits even after removing the paper pattern. I think the manufacturer is using a different formula adhesive. I experienced the same thing a couple weeks ago, but in my book, two is a trend, so I'm going to up my patience level when it comes to removing the patterns to avoid ripping up any of the plywood.

    DIY Tack Cloth

I used it yesterday. Just a quick light spray. I did leave it dry for more than five minute as I was preoccupied doing something else. I used it on something I sprayed with lacquer. Spray, let dry, sand, lint cloth, spray, let dry, sand, lint cloth, spray, let dry, viola, beautiful finish. Paper towel and spray glue worked beautifully!

I was just surfing through Pinterest and came across a spiral bowl. And any sort of bowl gets my attention. I clicked on the picture and had to do some searching to find the pattern. It's done by a person outside of the U.S. I can't recall where but they were on "Thingyverse.com" a maker site.

  46. It would take a long time for me to collect enough sawdust just from scrolling to be of consern as to where to dispose of it. Small amounts of pure sawdust can be turned into gardens and will actually improve poor soils. However, since I do generate a lot of chips and much heavier sawdust from my router and tablesaw when ripping and profiling wood for frames I, like dgman, will also include it with the yard waste to be picked up by our waste removal service. Most of the wood scraps I generate will have glue and patterns still attached so they just go into the waste (garbage) bin for our weekly pickup. Now when I had my woodworking shop in NC and made furniture and did a lot of turnings, my collection system could fill up a heavy duty 40 gal garbage bag in just a matter of a few days or sometimes even just a few hours. I would keep Walnut out of the collector and the multiple bags of sawdust would go to a local Horse farm almost every week or so.

  47. I have a game for two people that surprising looks really easy but in reality is quite fun and challenging, even if played with a new player. The squares are 1 inch by 1 inch, you can easily see what the other 4 pieces measurement are, just by looking at it. The four pieces are painted the same color on each side. the large colored pieces are placed With the large ends placed in the center of the board with the long parts both at the bottom of the board, facing away from each other and the black circles on the bottom corners. It starts out where the first person can make one move with the larger game pieces but cannot move the opponents piece, which, of course, would be the opposite colored game piece. The pieces can only be places on square that are free of the opponents piece and the two black circles. The after each move, the person has the choice to move one or both of the black circles to any open square, or he can elect to leave them lay as is. The person moving his larger game piece can leave it face up as it is when he picks it up or can elect to turn the piece over so that what was the bottom becomes the top. After that move, the opponent does the same thing with his piece with all the same electives of the previous player. ( these are choice with every move ) The object of the game is to position your piece so that the opponent has no where to place his game piece. sounds easy? Try it.
