    A pile of Junk

I made a big pile of Junk --and they love it! 25 x 18 overall I started with a 5 stack of 1/8 baltic cut with #5 and 3 Pegas mg blades to cut the junk pile -- the black is 3/8 and the letters 1/8 That pile thoroughly intimidated me from start to finish but it came out fairly close to my idea

  3. Hi everyone, I just want to give a big shout out to a few of the pattern makers and Especially Wayne Mahler for being able to cut all these out for me. Grampa Paul did a couple of the dog patterns for me. Wayne and Don from brookline did the teacher pattern for me. I couldn't decide which pattern to use so I went with Wayne's for the big one and Wayne was able to put Don's on a flat piece of wood for me. so it looks like a certificate. I had seven things that Wayne did for me but I wasn't able to take pictures of all of them. Maybe Wayne can put them on. I'll be so glad when I can start doing my own scroll saw work again. It's been eight months since I was on my scroll saw. One more week and I will be in Florida. The closing is the 16th. Yeah. Thanks again guys for all your help.

    Rocking r chuckwagon gang

The guy in the middle was our leader rusty rankin. He lived on his property which stretched back to the original Spanish land grant. Was 7 miles by 7miles. Originally it was down to 5 acres on the neches river in Sweeney switch Texas. We lost him 2 weeks ago. Got to go down and say good bye to my best friend in the world the day before he decide to turn oxygen and antibiotics off double pneumonia. Other guy is Bob. We spent years cooking on the Chuck wagon at Dollywood. Silver dollar city rodeos. Best times of my life outside my kids I ever had. End of the trail. Fixing to take this to brother Bob in Tennessee. for those that got there picture 10 years before last year Rusty was Dollywood Santa also. my tribute to my friends. Love miss you rusty.

    First shelf

I did this out of cherry, and I have to say hanging it was the biggest problem. I ended up using the command adhesive hangers, not my favorite but I could not figure another way to get it close to the wall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As I said before spray a light coat of m45 spray glue on the board when you are done cutting take a damp rag with meneral spirits wipe the paper in a fuew seconds the paper will peal off some times falling off. i then take the same rag and wipi across the wood and remove all the glue. galon of meneral spirits will last about 2 years. no sweat to it. 12. Well, since JoeW. started the brainteasers, I'll show a couple of those I've cut, plus a puzzle I did mostly on the table saw, back when I was just starting to discover woodworking (and had yet to really get into the scrolling side of things).

  18. Im am feeling really pleased with myself. Someone asked me if I can make them a Staffie dog leash hanger. I told her im only a learner in scroll sawing but I will try. So this is what I created using Inkscape her 2 Staffie dogs. One of her dogs is black and the other is a silver blue grey colour. Customer is over the moon. The customer is going to put her own hooks on it to hang the dog leashes on. In the photo I have it laying on a large plate

  19. Here is a Tiger I just finished. My daughter goes to the University of Memphis. Their mascot is a tiger and the school colors are blue and gray. That is why I painted the backer blue with a gray border. These colors appear to match the University colors pretty close. I used 1/4" maple plywood and cut most of it with a spiral blade. For the straight sections I switched blades to a straight one so I could cut a straighter line. Believe it or not, I did not break any of the whiskers when cutting. I saved them for almost last and had dreaded cutting them the whole time I was working in it. I made sure I had a fresh blade to reduce pressure in an attempt to not break the thin wood, and I got really, really lucky. The frame is maple that is stained Red Oak and sprayed with lacquer. The overall size with the frame is 17x20". The pattern is from Alex Fox and it said there are 447 holes. I'm not sure there are that many holes but I have not counted.

    My Latest

From Barney's Bullet to a 7 Layered Butterfly. The Butterfly was a bit of a challenge. On 1 layer I forgot to cut a hole out,2nd layer I believe, didn't catch it until I was gluing it all together' I had to scrap to glue off and cut the hole in. Doesn't look to bad. Barney's Bullet was a Joy to cut. Big fan of Mayberry when Barney was a Deputy.

Thanks for your input. I accidently came across it on Pinterest and had to do some searching to find the actual pattern. I found the designer on Thingyverse. Here is a pic of his name and contact info.

  32. I'm sure Covid has a lot to do with it for several reasons. One being the mills were closed for a while. Another being people didn't go to work and needed something to do at home,, lots of renovations, tree houses, fences, etc. were taking place using up what was available. I also read somewhere, not sure how true it was.. about 17 years ago a beetle devastated millions of trees in Canada and the affects are being felt now. I throw my sawdust over my fence,, I'll ask my neighbor what he does with it next time I see him!

  35. I just finished cutting out another cupcake holder for my sister-in-law saw. And experienced the same thing you did using the Duck brand shelf liner - hard to release - had to use mineral spirits even after removing the paper pattern. I think the manufacturer is using a different formula adhesive. I experienced the same thing a couple weeks ago, but in my book, two is a trend, so I'm going to up my patience level when it comes to removing the patterns to avoid ripping up any of the plywood.

  37. Ya know, I read a lot. I've read thousands of books. Mostly all fiction. There are some that stand out in my memory and I might read them more than once. But there are others that I wish I had not wasted the time. My point is, not everything is going to be great or even good. But, I will still buy a book and read it and take my chances. Same goes with magazines. Not all good but most are somewhat interesting. That's all I ask. I'm really happy that we have at least this magazine as so many others have gone down the drain. I can afford the $50 every two years.

  39. Guys in my CNC groups use Oramask.. It's used for painting.. ie sand your blank and top coat with clear sealer of choice such as shellac or poly.. place the oramask on then carve the piece on the CNC. Once carved you paint the carved out area. without having to worry so much about getting paint where it isn't supposed to be painted.. then peel off the oramask. I'm not sure what the material is made of.. but I tried using shelf liner instead of the oramask as a cheaper product. But the CNC sort of shreds the edges of the shelf liner and also the paint softens the liner to create a large mess, LOL The oramask could be used in place of the shelf liner if you like paying more for products.. Also heard complaints about the oramask removal is hard as it sticks very well.. We used the stuff in the autobody world for custom graphic paint jobs like flames etc.. Good stuff but pricey. The scroll saw stick and release tape sounds interesting, but again.. seems a bit pricey considering the shelf liner is like $5-6 a roll.. and I want to say those rolls are longer that the 20ft. scroll saw tape stuff is.. I don't have issues removing the shelf liner when using the full sheet shipping labels.. but it is more difficult for sure when using spray glues.. Maybe if you are set on using the spray glues.. Oramask may be a better option or the scroll saw tape. I just know that the oramask holds up well with some pretty potent chemicals.. Then again.. it sticks well to so removal might be worst than the removal of some of those very sticky shelf liners.. Again, only time I have had issues with removal of shelf liner is when I use the spray glues.. Possibly need to let the spray glue dry out more on my pattern before placing it on the liner covered wood blank.. Maybe that's my issue..

The sewing tool will perforate your pattern and put pin holes in your wood. The only time I touch my original pattern is when I scan it. From there I can scale, edit (which I do frequently) and print as many copies as I need, especially when doing Intarsia.

I march to a different drummer, I have read over the years about adhesives, good sides bad sides, so I'll just stick to my carbon paper, I don't have to worry about glue, or extra sanding, It may take a little longer having to trace the pattern on to the board, but then the pattern last a longer, And it's just the way I'm use to doing it. Happy Easter Every One!!
