I finally got this done, or I should say as far as I can go. I used all hardwoods, wenge-cherry-walnut-tiger wood, and was really challenged. I think intarsia must be a foreign word that means taking good square and flat wood, cutting into odd shapes and then trying to piece it together in a pattern! Anyway I learned A LOT12 points

I made one of these a few months back and sold it to a guy at work. I'm making items for an upcoming market and thought that I would make another one. On this one I added a little hangover on the backer board and painted it black along with the outside edge of the front piece. Front is 1/2" BB ply, backer is 1/8" BB ply. Cut entirely with a spiral, I'm starting to get the hang of the spirals I think. I'll post a pic of the 1st one I made also, you will be able to see the difference that the black "hangover" makes. Well, after posting I realize that the second one was laying on something black when I took the pic so you can't see that there isn't a black hangover on it. I was also able to save the pattern this time and added it to my door. New one First one8 points

Backwards Clock
danny and 4 others reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
This is fun thing intended to bring everyone a smile. I designed and made this backwards wall clock to give to my grandson Ethan for his birthday next month. I purchased the clockworks from a company in England that makes such a mechanism for clocks that work by projecting a mirror image. I very much doubt that this mechanism was intended to be utilized as I have done. Should a demand arise, I have enough supplies to make three more clocks. I've decided that I like it enough that one of these clocks will be for me. I cut the clock face from two 6mm thick layers of Baltic Birch plywood and used paint from a bunch of different cans in my shop in order to come up with 12 different colours with sufficient contrast.5 points -

Quarter inch BB with Red Gum (Australian Eucalyptus) veneer. My first attempt at veneering and there are a couple glue starved spots where small pieces of the veneer came off. My next project is a Clayton Boyer clock. Have spent quite a bit of time studying the patterns and instructions and am getting a little concerned I've bitten off more than I chew.3 points -

The most annoying thing is the fact that this is THE SAME COMPANY. I don't know where they get their supplies or if they are a paper company and make their own but I reckon they both should act the same way and supply the same stuff. As you can see from the screenshot the notice comes up immediately directing me to the European site. As I said I found another supplier but the prices WOW, something like 2 sheets for a pound (£1), I don't know what the exchange rate is. I did note that the European office is in Dublin which is in the EU and not part of the UK so that makes a difference.1 point -

Very nice, well cut. However, just wish the dark lettering of the word "TIME" wasn't right in line with the dark grain streak in the cut panel. Makes it a little dificult to read.1 point -
Fiona Kingdon pattern from summer issue

I very much like what you did here. I've never attempted to glue a piece of thin veneer to plywood, but you have inspired me to give it a try. And, I will try it with this pattern. Fiona has it for sale on her WEB site for those who may want the pattern but do not have the magazine. Fiona calls this 'Three Shells'1 point -

Hanging Light??
Jim McDonald reacted to munzieb for a topic
Found this pattern on Pinterest and thought I'd give it a try. It used more wood than I planned! 12 panels BBPW 1/8" and lots of clips. I stacked cut everything. I sprayed contact glue on both sides of a piece of paper and trimmed to make it happen. 3 panels x 4 and 4 panels x I forgot?? for the clips (a lot). Used "Off" to get it off. Since nothing is glued (sort of) using the clips and panels together is a real challenge. Everything is very fragile trying to slide the panels and clips together. I even filed the clip inserts to 1/8" to make sure they all fit together without too much effort (not). The last panel for the light did not go well and I cracked and broke it and had to make another. (slightly over sized). I decided to make it easier to get to the bulb. I would screw that panel in place. I cut some 1/4" strips at an angle that would be flush with the top panel (30 deg.?) and ca glued in place and added some 3/8" #4CS screws that worked out well. The center star accepted a standard lamp rod with a little threading and I used a candelabra lamp fixture with a 40w led globe bulb. The original design was for a hanging lamp but decided to use a lamp base my wife had from another project. Finish is shellac with satin lacquer. I've included the original drawing and the enlarged pattern I used for the panels and clips. Have fun.1 point -

Shelf Liner Observation
don watson reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Always thought the same thing about those few states that have strict rules, California comes to mind as one of those states.. Being on many car and tractor forums and hearing how you can't add aftermarket exhaust and intakes.. can't get lacquer and other types of auto paints and cleaning solvents.. Not to mention all the products I hear on the woodworking sites where you can't get certain things like mineral spirits etc.. Certainly not a place for me..0 points -

I can't fathom living somewhere that you have no access to what's available in other countries. Why is that? If you are willing to pay the shipping and import fees, why shouldn't you have all the options available. I'm very curious.0 points
