It's killing me to not share this publicly so I decided to share it here. Thanks to the Help of Jessica Boehm for making a pattern from a photograph, I'm shipping my son's present overseas. He lives in Germany! So until he gets it, I can't brag publicly . So here it is!!! I'mm really happy how it came out!7 points

A previous customer sent me a text-- "Bandit"-Cricket--Condor-Kodiak-&-Sweet Pea" ---- make up the stall signs for these horse names--ANY WAY YOU LIKE! I had made horse stall signs for them before. What a fun time this was. Lots of thinking- all designs are from T & E designs =--same source for the fonts. Woods are pine, cedar, fir, & some unknowns- the grips on the revolver are extremely hard, I have no idea of the species- color is just clear coated on them. Some thin plywood shop scraps, etc. Even used rawhide for the hanger on "Cricket". A lot of fun and a lot of work too. Customer has seen pictures of ""Bandit & Condor" only so far. "Bandit" even has turned parts! The pegs on "bandit" are used rifle cases. Many of the pegs on the others are golf tees that I buy in huge quantities for making key racks. Some light torching on some of the signs, then a quick poly spray over it.7 points

Yellow Heart
OzarkSawdust and 3 others reacted to Dave Monk for a topic
Received 10 BDF of yellow heart today not cheap but I was happy to find some. It's a full 1" thick and very nice quality. It's a bit redder than what I've had in the past. With shipping it came to $22 BDF. That stuff sure is heavy. Weighs lbs. It will probably last me the rest of my life. DiamondTropicalHardwoods.com4 points -

Great work on both Bobby. I wish we had had a dice roller when our girls and the grandkid's were little then I would not have had to crawl all over the floor trying to retrieve them. Marg2 points

Thanks to Steve Good - Keychains
Tomanydogs and one other reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
We in the Scroll Saw community are fortunate to have Steve Good. He generates countless patterns for free. I have cut many but today I was cutting a bunch of keychains for the staff at our local coffee shop and I realized how grateful I am to Steve for his Key chain program. For those who are new to scrolling or may not have seen the program it makes the most fantastic gifts. The link to the program is way down near the bottom of his daily blog at https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2 points -

Since I've gotten alot of support from the village, I want to say thanks and play it forward by sharing a bit of know how. Thanks to Ray over at Seyco. The man has a heart of gold. I reached out to him and he took time to explain to me over the phone exactly what I needed to do. Also thanks to octoolguy (Ray) from the village. Without your suggestion, I don't think I would be owning this awesome saw. So I got an Ex 21 and the only issue I had was the inability to tighten the wobbly blade. I tried Steve Goode's suggestion, adjusting the motor but that wasn't enough to resolved the issue. I called Ray at Seyco but he wasn't in at the time. He called me back the same day told me what needed to be done and offered to walk me through it, once I removed the back cover. The next day, he did just that. Mind you, I didn't purchase this saw from him nor have I ever bought anything from him. This is unheard of. I'm flabbergasted!! So to anyone who needs to know how to tension your Ex 21 blade, here's how. 1) Loosen the tension off the blade 2) Loosen the blade from the top clamp. I had a pinless blade inserted. Ez peezy! 3) Lower the back cover by removing the 4 bolts. See bolts in photo. Once bolts are removed, you now have access to bolt and screw used to raise saw arm. 2nd photo is top view of the grey bolt with hex screw inside. Loosen the grey bolt a little. Insert correct size hex key in center of bolt and give half turn towards you. The arm should lift as you are turning. Test the blade tension. For me, that did it. 4) Tighten the grey bolt and close it up. Now, get to scrolling. I hope this helps someone out there.1 point

I am posting a pic of the finishes that I have and this is where I get confused. Can anybody shed light on how to use these finishes together or should they not be used together? The wood I'm using is maple top and bottom and red oak in between. Seven layers of red oak. Maple top and bottom. I have sanded and glued them all together so any staining is not an option. I didn't want to stain anyway. I want a clear finish that will bring out the grain of both woods. They are very nice grain. I have Watco Danish oil in clear, Fromby's Tung oil and Zinnser's Shellac in clear. I put the other two cans in just for the sake of whether they could/should be used in any combination with the others. Sorry for being so ignorant on this subject but it is truly my weak point. Thanks for any and all suggestions. If anyone feels that I should get some boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits, I'd love to hear about that too.1 point

I have been using Deft satin lacquer spray for the last year or 2. Works great for me especially on my fretwork or scroll saw work. Gets in all the nooks and crannies. Dries very fast and you can apply many coats in a day. Stinks, so wear a mask if you decide to use it. I spray light coats. You will need at least 3 coats. Give it a try. This is what I use, https://www.acehardware.com/departments/paint-and-supplies/stains-and-finishes/lacquer/11982091 point

Nice buy Dave I have a couple of pieces. One is 1.5" thick x 7" wide X 36" long and another that is 1" thick X 7' wide and 2' long. I also have a smaller piece with black streaks running through it. Pretty cool looking. I think that yellowheart is no longer imported according to the guys at Ocooch. It is on the endangered list. I love working with it also. For a wood that is very heavy and dense it cuts and shapes like a breeze for me. I use it mostly for Intarsia.1 point

@crupiea hahahahaha .. I know what you mean .. that's hilarious .. I did 20 in the Coast Guard, then, another 15 as a Deputy Sheriff .. man - I'd HATE to be a cop nowadays .. but .. I'd love to be back in, the service - Navy and Coast Guard were just one big family. I spent many a day at Navy schools, stand SP for the Navy when I was on duty in Long Beach and San Diego (home town). Almost every weekend - the Navy and CG were playing either Baseball or football on the grass in Mission Bay. Miss those days. I see you're in C.V. - me - I'm up in NorCal .. Sonoma County. I took my wife down that way - before we got married - I told her - "you're gonna see why I stayed in Sonoma County. I didn't know that the mountains and hills actually had trees. In San Diego - they have only BOULDERS. Lots and Lots of Boulders." She couldn't believe it. I took her in via Hwy 15 - so she could see where I grew up .. Murrieta and Clairemont .. GO WARHAWKS .. hahahahaha . . . Okay .. thanks ..I'll download that picture .. and give it a try .. I will post it up so you can see it .. and have it done for him by the time he gets out of boot camp. What do you think? 1/4" Baltic Birch or 1/2" ????? I have 3/4" too .. in fact .. I just found a source .. YOU WON'T BELIEVE this .. I just picked up 3 sheets .. full sheets .. of 1/8" BB and 24" perfect circles of 3/4" BB .. the good stuff .. for free .. I could have taken more, but, I'll go down again tomorrow .. and get more. WHAT A SCORE. Well .. Thanks, sir, and I'll talk to you later. We'll be coming down that way as soon as it's safe to travel again. Fair Winds and Following Seas !!!!1 point

First, you need to know what you want to spray with your airbrush. There is also a skill issue. You are going to need to learn how to use it and practice. You will need to learn how to mix and filter your finishes. Each one is a bit different. You also have to clean and maintain your airbrush and associated equipment. Cheap airbrushes are throwaways. If you break something, and you will, you will soon discover that parts are difficult to find and may cost more than you paid for the airbrush. The tips are fragile. To try it out, get the Harbor Freight Airbrush Kit. The compressor will work ( I have one), and it comes with an airbrush. When it comes time to buy a new airbrush, buy a Badger. The Badger 155 Anthem is an excellent all-around airbrush that will spray anything you are likely to want to use. It's made in the USA, and parts are readily available. It has seals the will hold up to solvents which a lot of cheaper airbrushes will not. Lacquer thinner will eat the seals. It is my go to airbrush. I have a drawer full of cheap airbrushes. I also have six Badger airbrushes. I spray shellac and cheap acrylics, including house paint.1 point

Bobby's pattern of Colonel Sherman T Potter
Alexander Fadeev reacted to Charlie E for a topic
I thoroughly enjoyed cutting @lawson56's excellent pattern. I used to watch MASH reruns on Sunday night after the news with my parents. Dad was a Southern Baptist Minister. I remember my dad said he preferred Colonel Potter to Colonel Blake because Blake was too silly to take seriously. Another memory was watching an episode where Hawkeye was about to leave in a jeep with Colonel Potter and was acting like they were taking off in a plane. He said, "Kick the chocks out from under the wheels. Flaps up! No offense Margret." My mom laughed. It may have been the only off color thing I ever heard her laugh at. I think it did me good.1 point -
