Last year at my son's conferences the teacher talked about how he had gone to the same career center that he now teaches at, I mentioned that I also went there for auto collision repair. We started talking about cars etc. he was showing pictures of his Porsche that he restored.. I could tell he was really into his Porsche cars.. This year with Covid and all my son has helped a lot with the school both grade school and the career center school with computer tech stuff. He is in computer networking classes and does cyber security work and competitions etc. Anyway since I live out in the boonies we are limited for internet to slow DSL and with the wife working from home and son doing zoom classes etc.. so the teacher had given us some tech tips and a device that sped up the internet some. I made a clock of his car similar to this one as a thank you for a couple computer parts he gave me. ( I didn't get photos of the actual one ). Well I used the same pattern but I didn't like how the wheel wells blended with the body so I redid it and changed it around the wheels. My son took it to school today to give him. He open the box and was like "oh cool" then said I must have done that with a laser or something, my son said no he cut it by hand on a scroll saw. He didn't believe my son and actually took it to the construction class teacher and he said it was done on some sort of laser as well. LOL My son showed him my website and he told my son that I need to be charging a lot more money, LOL Tonight the phone rings and its the teacher.. He just had to say thanks but he really had to know how I made it. He still can't believe it was done on a scroll saw. He has a big Porsche meet tomorrow and he asked if he could take it and display it at the show and asked if he could make up some fliers with my website and email etc. My son sent him links to some of my videos on my yourtube of me cutting so he could see how it's done. Anyway, cut from Cherry as usual and used a #3 Pegas MG blade and a FD #2/0 spiral for widening some of the veining.8 points

Here is neat little clock I finished about 2 months ago. I forgot to post it here. I made it from walnut and maple.I took the clock movement out to clean and vacuum it. I'll put it back together later today after I clean it. It has a neat little pendulum bob I made. I used 1/16". 1/4". and 3/8" wood. Mostly cut with an Olson 2/0 reverse tooth blade. It is called the "Black Forest Clock from Wildwood on the Cherry Tree web site. It has little critters scattered about. It is only about 18/19 inches high. I had fun making it.8 points

He made me a lot of money in my 401K, lets see if he can make me a little more money tomorrow at a market. LOL. I stacked cut 2, 1/8" BB ply with a 2/0 FD spiral. I'm starting to feel comfortable now with spirals, took a while though! I used 1/4" BB ply as the backers. Finished size is 11" x 14". Haven't set up at a market for a couple of years. Taking some pens and key chains made on the lathe and some scrollsaw items. Also some other items that I have been making. Btw, I posted this for your enjoyment and thoughts as a scrollsaw piece, not as a political piece.7 points

I recently did a Venice scene cutting and happened to be scrolling through Pinterest and found another scene I really liked and had more detailed. I especially like the Rialto Bridge in the back ground. Lots of very thin lines in this pattern and did some mods on the fly so things didn't break. I also did my paint fill in technique on some of the dark spaces to match the background.6 points

It's killing me to not share this publicly so I decided to share it here. Thanks to the Help of Jessica Boehm for making a pattern from a photograph, I'm shipping my son's present overseas. He lives in Germany! So until he gets it, I can't brag publicly . So here it is!!! I'mm really happy how it came out!2 points

I went to get some yellowheart last week and they were out. They had plenty of other exotic wood just no yellowheart. It was listed as $12.12 a bdft. I will keep checking and when they get some and buy a few bdft. I did get some purpleheart, bubinga, ambrosia maple, gummy cherry, walnut and sapele.2 points -
A couple of Baptism pieces
butch1008 reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
In the Catholic church they perform baptisms on your children and babies. I have a great grandson that is getting baptized on my birthday, in Los Angeles. Several of our family members are going there for the event, including us. I wanted to find a plaque commemorating this event in James' life and looked to Sue Mey to see what she had to offer. I came up with this one and decided to also make this cross for his parents as well. I have not posted anything for some time, although I have made many things in my shop lately. So, here are two of pieces I made this week. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

Received 10 BDF of yellow heart today not cheap but I was happy to find some. It's a full 1" thick and very nice quality. It's a bit redder than what I've had in the past. With shipping it came to $22 BDF. That stuff sure is heavy. Weighs lbs. It will probably last me the rest of my life. DiamondTropicalHardwoods.com1 point -

Bought the pattern on Etsy and tweaked it a little. Also added the "3 little birds". He'll be living next to Willie. Figured they'll have something to talk about. 3/8" white oak with walnut backer. ***Richard commented below that I'm getting quite an array of celebrities in my collection. Wanted to share my reply so I can brag on my forth coming Hattian Grandkids. I am getting a fairly diverse collection of celebrities. I think 42 portraits now, some with several people in them. I noticed a few months ago that, unintentionally, all I had were white males. (Except for Aunt Bee in an Andy Griffith group ) I'm intentionally trying to diversify my collection in race and sex. I'm very excited that my son is adopting twins, a boy and a girl, from Haiti. I realized one day how my new grandchildren might feel if all they see is white men on my shop walls. Besides protecting their feelings, my shop is a happier place for it.1 point -

Great pattern cutting. You have quite an array of popular people on your wall. All look very good, but then, all of your work is well done. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

I would use magnets, HF has small powerful magnets about the size of a hearing aid battery. I would use two, opposite side and recess them. Put a recessed flat washer on the opposite side.1 point -

I was a big fan in my teenage years but then I grew up and decided that there were a lot more better singers out there. Now on reflection I think it was the words to his music that I liked not him. Anyhow.................... Great work as always Charlie, another excellent portrait for your workshop gallery. Marg1 point -

Yellow Heart
OCtoolguy reacted to WayneMahler for a topic
Depends on who you talk to. Some will say it is covid related. The mills slowed down then when covid hit, then every one was doing DIY around the house and the mills couldn't keep up, supply and demand. Others say it is the tariffs on imported goods. The US got a lot of wood from Canada and with the added tariffs it is not profitable enough. There are a few more things floating around and we all know what they say about rumors. To answer about hard wood. Yes it is up and still climbing. Hopefully things will get better and the prices will come back down.1 point -

Changing the topic just a bit, with the price of lumber (plywood & 2x4's) is the price of the hardwood going up as well? Hubby & I had a discussion about woods and this was his question. I haven't really done much with hard woods at this point. Just curious.1 point -

OCtoolguy reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
Like those who have responded so far, I have a little bit in stock. I doubt that I will get any more, not because of the price, but because none of the places that I purchase wood stock it anymore. I'm only using it for intarsia and, even then, I am using it sparingly.1 point -
Nice buy Dave I have a couple of pieces. One is 1.5" thick x 7" wide X 36" long and another that is 1" thick X 7' wide and 2' long. I also have a smaller piece with black streaks running through it. Pretty cool looking. I think that yellowheart is no longer imported according to the guys at Ocooch. It is on the endangered list. I love working with it also. For a wood that is very heavy and dense it cuts and shapes like a breeze for me. I use it mostly for Intarsia.1 point

Very nicly done. I ride a Harly Street Glide Special (which is kinda a full dress bike with fairing and tour pack) and have been trying to find a pattern of this kind of bike to no avail. I going to take some better photos of my bike and using some of the softwhere out there, I may be able to make my own pattern. Would love to have a cutting that I make of the bike I ride! BTW, I hope your new friend did not bleed to badly when you cut him!1 point -
