This is another conversion of a ZM Creations Illustration I made into a Scroll Saw pattern. Just had to add another piece to my "birds". The cut panel is 5/32 x 11 x 15 Maple solid core ply affixed to a hand painted 1/4” x 11 x 15” BB ply backer. All cutting was completed with Pegas #0 Spiral blades. The backer was given a coat of Acrylic Gesso and then hand painted with Artist Acrylic paints. I used additional copies of the pattern that I cut out with an Exacto knife to help locate the areas to be painted the various colors. Of course as always, the assembled panel was finished with multiple coats of Clear Gloss Lacquer. My usual frame width is 1 3/4, but, because I messed up a cut and did not want to waste the wood, this frame is only 1 1/4” wide Poplar stained with Minwax Ebony and finish with multiple coats of Minwax Satin Wipe-On Poly. BTW, they are Parrots, if you had not figured that out!6 points -
A Sue May Pattern. Cut from a Walnut 5/32 solid core ply panel and mounted on a 1/4x12X18 Birch backer. the Walnut was stained with Minwax Dark Walnut to improve contrast. The backer was stained with Minwax Natural. The assembled panel was finisshed with multiple coats of Clear Gloss Lacquer. The cut was done with Pegas #0 spiral blades. The Frame is a smple 1 3/4" wide Walnut which was also stained with Minwax Dark Walnut to enhance the color and finished with multiple coats of Minwax Satin Wipe-on Poly. Edit 5/11/2021: Just a little added information and rational. When I do a pattern like this that is applied on top of a backer so the image is raised, I'm very careful to make sure all the cut edges are stained as well to match. If left unstained, the cut edges are very noticable and a big distraction to the viewer. In addition, by making sure the cut edges are stained, the fact that the panel is plywood is not as apparent, again making the image much more attractive to the viewer. Also, it may be just me, but I realy like the presentation in a Frame rather then, how many would make it, as an unframed plaque. IMO, I think it is much more elegant. Thanks to all who have made such positive comments.4 points

I just received this big leaf figured Maple. Gorgeous stuff. Vendor is Daniel Zimmerman. He is often found on Facebook and on various groups. I purchased one box containing: 11 21X7-1/2X1/4" boards, 10 21X3-3/4" boards. $64 including shipping. Gorgeous wood. It is rough sawn. I don't own a planer or a large sander but is is smooth enough that my hand orbital sander will work. I had a nice DeWalt sander which was stolen. Consequence of keeping the garage door open. Now I have two HF sanders, a Bran and a Central Electric. One with 80 grit and the other with 220 grit. The combo works quite well. Daniel can be searched on Facebook. I can hardly wait to start scrolling it.1 point

I really like this Frank When I utilized your 'Parrot and Peony' pattern (see: My version of 'Parrot and Peony' - Bragging Rights - Scroll Saw Village), I liked the result but I had a lot of trouble with the paining. I thought, then, that I would not try something like it again. But, I like this so much that I'm going to put myself through all that painting bother again. It will make a good companion piece.1 point -

Quick sprayer question
OzarkSawdust reacted to BadBob for a topic
People seem to think airbrushes are only for tiny objects. I know someone who paints cars with automotive paint and an airbrush. He paints in his driveway one panel at a time. He has a wall full of trophies and ribbons he has won at car shows. For a compressor, he used a spare tire. There are many different sizes and styles for different tasks. Some airbrushes could easily be used to paint a sheet of plywood. First, you need to decide what you want to paint and what finish you want to spray with it. Then you can choose your airbrush. https://airbrushes.com/airbrushes.php1 point -

Quick sprayer question
OzarkSawdust reacted to oldhudson for a topic
I don't spray my scroll saw projects, generally, but often spray larger projects. I have an HVLP. It's Earlex brand I picked up at Rockler. A nice, fairly priced, and very complete set. It even has a viscosity cup. Comes with a DVD on how to use it. I don't think I'd want to set it up to do scroll work, unless I was do several pieces at the same time. It's hard to beat a finish that's been sprayed on.1 point -

You also posted a nice variety of birds , all are done quite nicely too. I have cut some of these myself. My personal favorite is the little comical owl sitting on a branch. I have always loved this little fellow. Yours has a little more detail than the others ones I have seen and made but very similar otherwise Dick heppnerguy1 point -

birds are so amazing. I can't say that I love all birds but I can say they all are a real gift from God to mankind. Your work is all very well done and interesting to view. Thanks for posting them. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

A pattern by Sue Mey. Finished two different ways. One is framed with a Birdseye Frame and the other backed with 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained black. Stack cut 1/8" BB plywood on a Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT and #1 Spiral blades. The MGT blades on the lettering and the Spiral on everything else. Comments welcome.1 point -

Eagles have been one of my go to patterns since I started scrolling. However, birds in general has been my popular subject and makes up a large part of what I have completed. In fact, not shown yet, I just finished another Parrot cutting, but is still in the finishing and framing process. Edit 5/15, see added pic at bottom. Edit 5/15:1 point

3M-77 Spray Adhesive
oldhudson reacted to WayneMahler for a topic
When I ran out of it I tried several other brands. Elmers, Alenes, Gorilla Spray. They all did what they claimed, but had patterns lifting on me. Gorilla seemed to be worst for lifting although removing the pattern was super easy. Alenes held the best and had a good spray pattern to it. Elmers also did a pretty job. When Super 77 became availibe again I bought 4 cans . You could not find 45 either. I'm thinking Lowes discontinued it. They have very little listed on their web site dealing with 3M in the glue department. I have 2 Home depots very close to me. One stocks the 77 now and the other doesn't seem to. Strange1 point -
Do yourself a favor & switch to 3M-45. I quit sawing, but the 77 seemed to change their formula & it wanted to spray a few blotches. The 45 didn't do that.1 point
