    Morgan Freeman

I've been a Morgan Freeman fan since he was Easy Reader on The Electric Company on PBS in the early 70's. Thanks to Botas Helder for a fantastic pattern. Cut in 1/2" quarter sawn oak with a wormy walnut backer.

  9. Like FrankEV, birds make up a large part of the scroll-lsawn work that I have done and, right now, I am just completing and framing another one. But, unlike him, I will only post the photo of one bird in this thread. I'm going to go away for a little while right now and figure out my favourite, then post it here. ... ... I'm back. My favourite is Brrrrdbath: I designed this based upon a serigraph by Charlie Harper. I used Baltic birch plywood for most of the the pieces and the backing. The snow pieces were cut from maple dowel and the water drops were fashioned by sanding down axel caps originally intended for use with wooden toys.

  10. Eagles have been one of my go to patterns since I started scrolling. However, birds in general has been my popular subject and makes up a large part of what I have completed. In fact, not shown yet, I just finished another Parrot cutting, but is still in the finishing and framing process. Edit 5/15, see added pic at bottom. Edit 5/15:

    Going Away Present

Alright SSV Nation, I haven’t posted much of my work lately, but thought this would be appropriate. It is a 20 MM aircraft gun barrel mounted on Bloodwood, which is the most dense wood I have ever played with). The mounts are Bubinga with inlays to the coins, patch and the nameplate. The nameplate is scrolled in Canarywood. I was so surprised to see a red streak within the Canarywood. Never seen it before. It is finished with Teak Oil. Feel free to ask questions. I totally enjoyed this.

  13. It takes a while to get the hang of it. Interviews with Ken Schlotfeldt of Badger Airbrush. I make toys and picked up a lot of good tips from modelers. What they do is closely related painting toys. I spray shellac, craft acrylics, and house paint.

    3M-77 Spray Adhesive

I ordered 3M-77 May 4 for $9.35. Free shipping with Prime. Delivery estimate July 6. I started to repeat the order and the price is now 2 for $29.00. Have no idea what is happening. I'm OK till July but I found aan Elmer's spray adhesive I've had for several years. Sadly it would no longer spray. I have no idea what is going on. I may have to go to a dollar store to see if there something cheap that will work.

  18. I think it is a wood defect known as shake "a separation of the wood along a growth ring". Something caused the tree to grow funny for a year leaving a discoloration and week spot. Can you call it character a keep it?

    Big Leaf Maple

To fix a cupped piece you need a jointer, not a planer. A planer will press the wood down and remove wood, when the wood exits the planer it will just cup again. A planer makes each side parallel, not flat. Wetting your wood and weighing it down might flatten it.

Blood wood is tough. Only thing I've cut harder was Brazilian Cherry. Like cutting concrete. Beautiful momento for someone.

  27. Sounds like the speed control board . If you just unboxed it then I would try a warranty service center. Mine started to do that towards the end of it's life.

  28. I finally finished two Dream Catchers, one with a Cardinal and the other Hummingbird. The dream catchers made from Ash and the feathers Walnut and Maple. The Hummingbird is Cherry and the Cardinal from various hardwoods. The finish is a coat of spray Shellac as a sealer and two coats MinWax spray Lacquer Clear Satin.

  30. This is not a picture of mine, but I have made three of these, two before I ever realy got into doing Scroll Saw work. Owned a Scroll Saw for many years. The first two feeders was the only projects I used it on when I was up in NC. Making the third after moving to Florida was what actualy got me interested in doing more scroll work, that was about 20 or so months ago. The one I currently have in my back yard looks like a bomb exploded in it as the squirrels tore it apart. Even so the birds love it when I remember to fill the tray with seed. We get Cardinals, Doves, Bluejays, all sorts of small brown birds, small Wood Peckers and Painted Buntings (I swore were small parrots or parrakeets...my ladey corrected me by showing me them in a book of birds we have.) The feeders were made of untreated 1/2" ply and painted with oil based enamel. However, even well painted they don't hoild up well in the elements, especially here in the florida sunshine...both the hot kind and the wet kind. I intend to remake it again and this time try to find some better wood, like maybe marine grade ply. (We have lots of boat building places around here.) Anyway the pattern was in SWW many moons ago. You can down load it here: https://scrollsawer.com/2011/05/04/victorian-birdfeeder/ Travis did say we can post aboth Bird house and Feeders also, so I took him up on his suggestion.

    Cat Angel

A pattern by Sue Mey. Finished two different ways. One is framed with a Birdseye Frame and the other backed with 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained black. Stack cut 1/8" BB plywood on a Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT and #1 Spiral blades. The MGT blades on the lettering and the Spiral on everything else. Comments welcome.

    BB Plywood

Here in our area of Canada the price of construction grade lumber has sky rocketed but hard woods including BB has been quite stable

  34. I ran the saw again this afternoon. It seemed okay for about 15 minutes and started pulsing again. For a new saw, it’s not worth the effort to work through the issue. I have boxed it up and it’s going back to Lowe’s tomorrow. Thank you for the comments. I really appreciate the support. Joe
