I had a need to cut a piece of this white plastic like stuff that I cannot remember the name of..... It is hard to cut because it melts so easy and a little heat from the blade and it melt together solid.... I worked at it with different blade, scroll saw running as the slowest speed, and was getting no where.... I finally got a thought,,, I connected my dust collection to the blow side of my shop vac and blew on it as I was cutting... Worked great... I also moved up to a #12 Pegas MG blade,,, going the slowest speed,,, The blowing was just enough to keep it from melting..... So there you go, if you ever have to cut this stuff,,, what ever it is called.... give blowing a try....11 points

It was quite difficult to draw some details of this pattern - I tried to make realistic, not to difficult to cut, good looking 3d effect and high quality at the same time. I think Jesus patterns are popular, so I tried my best. And here is what came out, what do you think? Video of making Jesus project Jesus pattern4 points

1938 Lancia Astura
Alexander Fadeev and 2 others reacted to munzieb for a topic
1938 Lancia Astura Cabriolet Lancia is one of Italy’s oldest car companies being founded in 1907. The Lancia Company still exist in Turin and now is under the umbrella of Stellantis Auto Group which also includes Chrysler/Fiat, Citroen, Alpha Romeo, Maserati and Peugeot. The 1938 Lancia Astura was the epitome of the late Art Deco auto design period with its large flared front fenders and extensive use of chrome on the windshield and grill. The Tipo V-8 3-liter engine provided plenty of performance for either touring the Apian Way or along the shores of Lake Como in style and comfort. This model was only produced for 2 years with WWII disrupting car production for military purposes. I designed the pattern with MS 3D paint and used 1/8 BBPW with ¼” luan backer. Finish is shellac with Gloss lacquer.3 points -

I very much like the quote about morality by H. L. Menkin. It's been a "tag line" in my posts here for some time. Last week, I decided to make a pattern for it, to cut it, apply a finish to it, frame it: And to hang it along with other quotes that I try to live by in my office: I think we all need to be guided by what I believe is the basic goodness of most people rather than blindly following the dictates of religions and cults. Getting back to the piece itself. It is cut from 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood and backed by the same. The frame is of 1/4-sawn White Oak painted flat black.3 points -

A couple of Baptism pieces
butch1008 and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
In the Catholic church they perform baptisms on your children and babies. I have a great grandson that is getting baptized on my birthday, in Los Angeles. Several of our family members are going there for the event, including us. I wanted to find a plaque commemorating this event in James' life and looked to Sue Mey to see what she had to offer. I came up with this one and decided to also make this cross for his parents as well. I have not posted anything for some time, although I have made many things in my shop lately. So, here are two of pieces I made this week. Dick heppnerguy2 points -
I lived in North Dakota for several years, and I know all about frozen locks, etc. I quickly learned that to use only synthetics, dry lubes, or no lubrication at all if you wanted it to move at -40F. If you used nonsynthetic oils, you had to heat it to keep it moving. We had propane heaters on our diesel engines and electric heaters on the gasoline engines. Gas engines didn't need heaters if they had synthetic oils. I don't know or don't remember why the locksmith said that, but I took it to heart and never used graphite again. I never liked the stuff.2 points

These are Sue Mey patterns that I slightly modified. They both are about 13" wide by 10" tall. Cut from 1/8" BB ply with a 1/4" BB ply as the backer. Cut entirely with a FD spiral blade. I like the one with the black backer a bit better, it stands out a little better. I looked online for a western sunset that I could print out and use as a background but I didn't like the look of them as much as I liked the idea of them.2 points

Eagles have been one of my go to patterns since I started scrolling. However, birds in general has been my popular subject and makes up a large part of what I have completed. In fact, not shown yet, I just finished another Parrot cutting, but is still in the finishing and framing process. Edit 5/15, see added pic at bottom. Edit 5/15:2 points

Rich Mullins
Tomanydogs reacted to Charlie E for a topic
One of my favorite Christian musicians ever, Rich Mullins. If you don't know him he wrote and sang songs you probably know including Awesome God. I love him because he was sort of a hot mess. He drank, smoked, cussed, didn't bath regularly. He also made millions of dollars and gave it away to charities and churches except for a small living allowance. He worked with Navajo children on a reservation. Sounds like a disciple, and I'll bet one of God's favorite sons. Cut in wormy walnut.1 point -
My Tip for the Day
OCtoolguy reacted to bandaideman for a topic
I have cut Plexiglass years ago and there was someone in Tenesee who sold supplies for scroll saw folks and had picnics back in the day. Can not remember the name but got stuff from them but they are closed up now. Any way he used duct tape over the Plexi then pattern and very slow speed. I did this and it worked well unless speed increase then you would have melt and stick to gather. Made ornaments, birds, etc.1 point -
They should offer plans on disc. I've suggested more than once. Their answer, "we don't have that capability". They are either lying or living in the dark ages.1 point

Morality
Norm Fengstad reacted to Charlie E for a topic
Great job! I really don't feel it is that controversial of a statement. While I am a Christian, I totally agree with the message of your piece. From what I understand Jesus himself wasn't a fan of religion. Most of the people he had a problem with were religious leaders who tried to get people to follow all of their manmade rules and felt they were better than others because of all their outward piousness while they were rotten on the inside. One of my favorite verses is 1 Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" which seems to indicate "Love is more important than faith." I also agree with your statement about not blindly following dictates that don't ring true in your heart. Thanks for sharing your work.1 point -
There is an app on my iPhone to measure inclination. It is in my "Utilities" app, "Measure" and "Level". If you have an iPhone you might try that and let us know if it works for this purpose.1 point

This is proving to be quite popular. I've now made five of them in total and, just this week, two of my nieces saw a photo of the one that I made for another niece and asked me to make one for each of them as well. Other than my our annual year-end greeting cards, I will have cut more of this design than of any other.1 point -

I'd offer based on one saw or both. For both, I'd do as Paul suggested. How much do you want it/them. I think I'd go $600 for the Seyco and $100 more for the EX. I'm sure she just wants them gone.1 point -

Like FrankEV, birds make up a large part of the scroll-lsawn work that I have done and, right now, I am just completing and framing another one. But, unlike him, I will only post the photo of one bird in this thread. I'm going to go away for a little while right now and figure out my favourite, then post it here. ... ... I'm back. My favourite is Brrrrdbath: I designed this based upon a serigraph by Charlie Harper. I used Baltic birch plywood for most of the the pieces and the backing. The snow pieces were cut from maple dowel and the water drops were fashioned by sanding down axel caps originally intended for use with wooden toys.1 point
