I got this free pattern from Google. Didn't quite work out the way it did in my head but still quite happy with it and so was the girl that I gave it too. Cut from half inch pine. Marg

With apologies to Judy Gale Roberts for the butchery of her pattern, I got this finished. I used a piece of spalted poplar I found by chance at the local Lowes. Backed it with 1/4 BB. Overall a fun project.

    A birthday gift.

I cut this as a surprise gift and he was thrilled to bits with it. The pattern is by Gayle from over at Scrollers Cafe. Cut from 2.5mm Bamboo as always and framed in a store bought frame. Marg

  4. I cut this Harvey Byler puzzle recently out of poplar using #1&3 pegas blades. The puzzle is rather simple and a quick cut but the person that requested it and the recipient are both very amazing people. We have had the great pleasure of “adopting” 3 young ladies who were Clemson University students several years ago through a program at our church, to give them a home away from home as they attended college. One of the young ladies, Abbey, is now a NICU nurse at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville dedicating her life to helping save babies and young children who have had a difficult start in life. During a recent visit home she requested this puzzle for a baby boy who was born prematurely at 23 weeks. Jacob has spent the first 8 months of his life at the hospital and Abbey was assigned his case. Jacob’s father is a huge tractor fan and decorated his home nursery with all kinds of tractor paraphernalia. This puzzle is a gift to Jacob to celebrate his discharge from the hospital. We wish many blessings on Jacob and Abbey in addition to all the healthcare workers who give their time and passion to serve those in need in hospitals across this great nation.

  7. Last year at my son's conferences the teacher talked about how he had gone to the same career center that he now teaches at, I mentioned that I also went there for auto collision repair. We started talking about cars etc. he was showing pictures of his Porsche that he restored.. I could tell he was really into his Porsche cars.. This year with Covid and all my son has helped a lot with the school both grade school and the career center school with computer tech stuff. He is in computer networking classes and does cyber security work and competitions etc. Anyway since I live out in the boonies we are limited for internet to slow DSL and with the wife working from home and son doing zoom classes etc.. so the teacher had given us some tech tips and a device that sped up the internet some. I made a clock of his car similar to this one as a thank you for a couple computer parts he gave me. ( I didn't get photos of the actual one ). Well I used the same pattern but I didn't like how the wheel wells blended with the body so I redid it and changed it around the wheels. My son took it to school today to give him. He open the box and was like "oh cool" then said I must have done that with a laser or something, my son said no he cut it by hand on a scroll saw. He didn't believe my son and actually took it to the construction class teacher and he said it was done on some sort of laser as well. LOL My son showed him my website and he told my son that I need to be charging a lot more money, LOL Tonight the phone rings and its the teacher.. He just had to say thanks but he really had to know how I made it. He still can't believe it was done on a scroll saw. He has a big Porsche meet tomorrow and he asked if he could take it and display it at the show and asked if he could make up some fliers with my website and email etc. My son sent him links to some of my videos on my yourtube of me cutting so he could see how it's done. Anyway, cut from Cherry as usual and used a #3 Pegas MG blade and a FD #2/0 spiral for widening some of the veining.

    14" Jet Band Saw help

I have an older model (grey) 14" Jet band saw that I have not used for quite some time. I would like to resurrect it to do some re-sawing. I'm looking for some advice on how to go about that and what blade should I use? I have never used it for re-sawing. I only used it for some scrolling of large toys I made about 25 or so years ago and only occasionally since then. It's almost like new, just dusty. I don't have a fence for it either. Should I try and make one, or buy one? Thanks in advance Ben

  14. Just to reiterate Wolfmoon's comment regarding set-up. It is critical, every bit as critical as getting the right blade. Blade tension & guide adjustment can make the difference between getting nice, even & smooth cuts vs bowed & tapered kindling wood. Even with a good set-up you might experience some blade drift, so any fence you use should be able to compensate for drift. It may not be necessary, but it's better to have the capability and not need it than to need it and not have it.

    14" Jet Band Saw help

I bought a couple of bar magnets from H/F when they were on sale. I'm going to make a low fence and a tall fence. When they are stuck to the table, they don't move and easily removed when not needed.

  25. I have to add comments about the set up as well. In prep for re-sawing some expensive (is there any other kind) hardwood a few days ago, I tested cuts on some softwood scraps. My saw wanted to drift a bit. I got out my machinists squares and started to check the blade, the fence, the table, and the guides. I discovered that the blade was not exactly parallel to the miter slot on the table. I have euro type guides on my saw (Mini-Max 16) which I don't particularly like, but they came with the saw and work OK. Anyway, I've noticed over the years that one of the guides spins more than the other. (right side/left side) I put the square on the guide bar, and discovered that the guides weren't exactly parallel to the blade. Fortunately, there are adjusters for the guide bar on the saw. I ended up slightly changing the adjustment. The adjustments involve 4 set screws. As I adjusted the screws, I made test cuts. After about three tries, the saw cut parallel to the fence, and I re-sawed the hardwood board. Don't remember if I ever adjusted the bar before, of if I even knew the adjusters were there. Long and short of it is: saw adjustment is really more important than the blade. Jim

Your "Buchery" is well done. I don't see any reason to apologize! The grain in the Poplar almost looks like clouds streaking in front of the moon. Nice job on the wood orientation.

    layered crosses

found this pattern and wanted to give it a try. So I purchased it and did the thick on (4 layers) in 1/4 inch baltic birch while the top layer is a wood that I do not know the name of and had it in my wood rack. I found that using 1/4 inch wood made it so the other colors of the different layers did not show very well, so I cut another one in 1/8 inch BB Ply and just stained the top layer. I put four coats of semi gloss finish on both of them. I did decide the thinner wood brought our the detail and other colors more to my liking. Theses will be gifts to some friends of our that also has a granddaughter who's name happens to be Grace. Dick heppnerguy

    Fret Box

Found a small fret box pattern I liked. Bubinga wood. Too small for hinges on the top so did a drop in top. Could not stack cut sides because they are too small. Shellac and lacquer finish.

    Basket

I actually cut this a few years ago and never finished it because I didn't like it. Wrong size wood, chipped a lot, wood was soft, just a learning experience. Since I've been in the dog house all weekend, I saw it sitting there and decided to finish it. I think more of it now. I don't remember who's pattern it is or even the wood, I can tell you it's stain vintage blue, because I had a bunch of that and really want to get rid of it.

  34. It has been awhile that I could spend time in my little shop, got all the other “todo things” done, so now time for me to play. Due to Covid all the golf courses are closed here in Ontario (only place in North America- go figure) so in the basement I went. Denny had too much fun with the bird houses so I decided to use some of my scrap pieces and have fun also. Animals puzzles are from Steve Good the same for the trivet.

  38. I just bought 3 Timber wolf blades, love them. I use the 3/4 for resawing with great success.
    1 point
  39. Timberwolf makes nice blades too. I have a 1/2" blade on mine and I resaw with it. One very important thing is to get the setup right. If you don't, you will be cutting angles. spend the time getting the table perpendicular to the blade. You also need to make sure your guides are set correct. I highly suggest you look for the Carter setup video's on Youtube.. This is a great one. Alex is a master at bandsaws

  40. I haven't done a lot of resawing, and I don't know what you have in mind, but I've done what I needed with my regular 1/2" 3 tpi skip tooth blade. I have several wider blades, but don't want to bother with the set up involved with blade changes. If you're going to do a lot of resawing, or only resawing then maybe a dedicated resaw blade would be better. Jim BTW, the 1/2" 3 tpi blade is the blade I use on my saw most of the time.

  41. Thanks Roberta, I've done enough cars with grills to start at the weakest and cut to the strongest point. On the side louvers and front grill, I started at the bottom and moved up replacing the cut outs as I go (and I go slow) 0/3 superior puzzle blade, then blue tape everything back in place to give it strength for sanding the back. I kind of enjoy it but I had one break out on the second grill from the bottom in the front. The BBPW had a void and broke out. I was able to salvage the piece and CA glue it back in place. Yikes!
