    Feeling Haggard Two

This is the 2nd Merle Haggard cutting I’ve done. I like this better than the 1st one. I’m feeling haggard, too.

With apologies to Judy Gale Roberts for the butchery of her pattern, I got this finished. I used a piece of spalted poplar I found by chance at the local Lowes. Backed it with 1/4 BB. Overall a fun project.

  3. Patterns from Sue Mey. I had a piece of Spruce laying around 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 so I decided to give it a shot.

    Latest Cuttings

I was asked to show my Bear Bryant, so here it is. As is some of my latest cuttings all of Steve Good patterns At least I'm pretty sure they are. My Tribute to Our Fallen Hero's is my newest cut. Finished it this morning. Loved doing the Locomotive.

  7. My great grandson is really into trains so his grandfather,(my son), asked me to make a train plaque for my son to give him for his birthday. This is a Sam Custodio pattern that I have made once before, a long time ago. I personally like this pattern and since I had it on hand, I choose to cut and frame it. Dick heppnerguy

    Gnome

I got this free pattern from Google. Didn't quite work out the way it did in my head but still quite happy with it and so was the girl that I gave it too. Cut from half inch pine. Marg

    Key Rack

I just finished this and hung it on the wall. Happy to say my wife likes it (or at least says she does). Done in 1/4" plywood with Pegas MGT3 blades. It is in 2 levels, the black back piece and the white front piece. The hooks are metal.

  10. In the Catholic church they perform baptisms on your children and babies. I have a great grandson that is getting baptized on my birthday, in Los Angeles. Several of our family members are going there for the event, including us. I wanted to find a plaque commemorating this event in James' life and looked to Sue Mey to see what she had to offer. I came up with this one and decided to also make this cross for his parents as well. I have not posted anything for some time, although I have made many things in my shop lately. So, here are two of pieces I made this week. Dick heppnerguy

    Don’t Do It

Thanks. Very cool. That's the same as I used, the socket head cap screw. I didn't drill it out but just ground it flat and polished a bit. Instead of a wing knob I made a round knob. Nice job making the little insert.

I use a sanding mop (Silverline Tools - Dome Sanding Mop - 75mm 240 Grit), I have mounted into a motor driven carving wand, every so often during a cutting for the same reasons. On a many hole pattern the fuzzies can even start to restrict the piece from sliding freely on the table. At the end of a cutting after a quick job with the mop, I will also sand the back with 220 grit on the palm sander and then finish cleaning all the little tight spots and any remaining fuzzies with a butane torch. I do almost everything with spirals also. Just finished a cut that had a bunch of long parralel curved lines with only about a 1/16" separation...a few wiggles but no cut throughs.

  18. Oh, my. I am so sorry that happened to you. I have found myself getting cockier with my table saw at times lately, and beating myself up for doing so. I think I’ll put my guard back on, both figuratively and literally on after seeing this. Hope you heal cleanly.

  22. I had a Rigid model which I sold - it ended up sitting on the floor because I didn't have any counter space for it. I now have the small Wen sander and quite like it.

@CSull I wanted to re-visit this post since CSull seemed a little despondent recently about intarsia projects. This photo that he shared should be a great confidence builder all by itself! Great project, great choice of woods, and you can see that everyone complimented the project. God Bless! Spirithorse

  25. I've got the Grizzly floor model. It's definitely overkill, but Amazon had it on sale a few years ago plus free shipping and I just couldn't resist. Prior to that I had a Delta which the motor burnt out, and the Grizzly replaced a Jet bench top model.

    Blade question

I have not tried them but a skip tooth blade is always recommended for compound cutting. Depending on thickness of your blank, I would go with. #3, 5 or 7. There is no reason they wouldn’t do the job.

  32. "A great project. You did a splendid job on this. This is the very reason I love fret work. It is always challenging and consumes a lot of time to cut but when one finishes a piece like this, the satisfaction for the scroller is high on the scale. Also it is fun to hear the 'unbelievable' type comments you get every time someone sees it for the first time. Dick heppnerguy

  33. I have never used plyboard before so I tried it on this project. After I finished scrolling and went to rip down some backer board, my head said "use the push stick". Well as I often do, I chose not to listen. As I was flicking the cut off piece away from the blade this happened. Finger VS. Table saw!!!! Table saw 1, finger 0. I knew better but figured "just this once is okay. I have also been waiting for something like this to happen. It's not "if" but when and how bad. Well She said that the specialist will be the one to decide the finger fate on Tuesday. She sewed it up the best she could. The bone is REALLY bad messed up. Then to top it all off I glued the backer to the wrong side!!!!! LOL, I guess you win some and then you lose some. I did rip a piece of wood when I got home at 3:30 this morning to overcome the "fear". I believe I might have learned something. At least this project will still end up fairly decent despite fingering it up!
