    Key Rack

I just finished this and hung it on the wall. Happy to say my wife likes it (or at least says she does). Done in 1/4" plywood with Pegas MGT3 blades. It is in 2 levels, the black back piece and the white front piece. The hooks are metal.

    Feeling Haggard Two

This is the 2nd Merle Haggard cutting I’ve done. I like this better than the 1st one. I’m feeling haggard, too.

  4. My great grandson is really into trains so his grandfather,(my son), asked me to make a train plaque for my son to give him for his birthday. This is a Sam Custodio pattern that I have made once before, a long time ago. I personally like this pattern and since I had it on hand, I choose to cut and frame it. Dick heppnerguy

    Latest Cuttings

I was asked to show my Bear Bryant, so here it is. As is some of my latest cuttings all of Steve Good patterns At least I'm pretty sure they are. My Tribute to Our Fallen Hero's is my newest cut. Finished it this morning. Loved doing the Locomotive.

    Don’t Do It

I have a couple of friends that have the Taig lathe and mill. Nice little machines. All my big machinery is gone, Bridgeport and nice 12 inch lathe. My age and strength no longer allowed me to bigger projects. I still have a Sherline lathe and mill, Grizzly mini-mill, MaxMat 7 lathe. I do very little in them anymore. I also made pens for several years just giving the pens away. After while I ran out of people to give them to and it gets pretty expensive if you can't sell. I sold all the pen stuff including several hundred blanks. Small fortune there. Kept the wood lathe and chucks. I don't sell my scroll work either. It just stacks up. I think this thread has been hijacked!

  7. In the Catholic church they perform baptisms on your children and babies. I have a great grandson that is getting baptized on my birthday, in Los Angeles. Several of our family members are going there for the event, including us. I wanted to find a plaque commemorating this event in James' life and looked to Sue Mey to see what she had to offer. I came up with this one and decided to also make this cross for his parents as well. I have not posted anything for some time, although I have made many things in my shop lately. So, here are two of pieces I made this week. Dick heppnerguy

  9. I understand exactly what you are talking about. I take the extra hot summer to the cold and ice, any time. I never snows in Casa Grande and the population here is way smaller then Phoenix area and the traffic is more to my liking. It is 102 here right now but in one month we will go to Oregon for two months and enjoy the much milder summer there. So far that has worked for us. Our rainy times are few and far between but it does get down to almost freezing temperatures for a short period of time but no snow or ice. One of the strangest things about living here for me is seeing Christmas decorations up when the daily temperature is warm enough for the tops on the convertibles to be down and enjoying the rather warn and sunny days. 11. The houses are going up quickly here as the Phoenix area is in fluxed with 200 families moving here per day, on an average for quite some time now. Most homes are only on the market for 5 days or less and the asking prices are using a starting point for them and are often offered above that in order to get the house. I wouldn't wait much longer to look. We live about an hour south of Sun City. That would be really cool if you were to move in our area. I would really like to get to know you on a personal basis. 12. I have a HF spindle sander. Don't use it alot. I mostly use my 1" belt with 5" disk sander. Also a 4" Belt and 5" disk sander. For small radius clean up I use a Dremel with the little sanding drums. I could do without the spindle sander.

    Don’t Do It

les, i have a taig lathe, a taig mill and lots of tooling.only thing about the taig is no way to cut threads. you have to use taps and dies. not a big deal as most what i do is small stuff. i bought both for my other hobby of pen making, which i like but nobody wants to buy a pen for the amount of time and money i have in it. i guess i could say the same for my scroll saw stuff also. just a fun hobby. doug

    Retiring again

As someone who has also worked with handicapped kids and adults, I know you will miss some of them quite a bit. I did my old job for 19 years and I still miss talking to a lot my friends. Not everybody can do that kind of work, so you should be proud of your retirement job.

kevin, the plastic ends come seprate from the screws. they sell them in different colors and sizes. they have the big aluminum knurled ones also but i could not come up with a good way to drill them out and still accurate on the hole being centered. if you have a wood lathe and a few tools you could drill the screws out. just go slow. a beall collet chuck and some scrap brass or aluminum rod drilled and threaded to screw thread size and you can drill on a wood lathe. i have done it before i got my taig lathe. doug

  31. I don't have a automobile, but I just finished this item and it has wheels so I'm hoping you'll accept it. This is a model of a Stearman Trainer. I hope it will be a whirl-i-jig and the plane will turn to face the wind and the prop will turn. Most of the wood is cedar. The prop is from an old garden spinner gadget that stopped working a couple of seasons ago. I used a bandsaw, drill press, and scroll saw. Hand painted. I'd like to find a plastic pilot, like Gonzo or Kermit from the Muppet show. If I get it running in the garden I post another pic. Posted Sept 6. Well as it turns out this makes an awful whirl-i-jig. Two problems: 1) good whirl-i-jigs are very thin and fairly long, which helps them turn into the wind (my little project is short and fat); 2) my house is located much lower than other homes near us and to the west and north we have acres of wild woods, thus the wind is blocked. Although in the winter when the leaves are off the trees/bushes we get lots of wind.

  32. All of these great automotive cuttings are getting me motivated! Some beautiful work. I had Commissioned Charles Dearing back in 2007 to do a fretwork pattern of my car, maybe it is time for me to finally cut it. Actually I want to do an Intarsia version of it that I will design myself. All I need is time.

  37. These are from the The Great All-American Wooden Toy Book by Norman Marshall published in 1986. I was also published in "Great Book of Wooden Toys" It's all old school as in you will need to make/enlarge patterns by hand. Some of the plans were also published in the Shopsmith Hands-On magazine. That is where I first encountered them. I need to make some more of these. I have a box of parts that I haven't used.

  38. I made this Norm Marshall car years ago and kept all these years. I made a lot of them. I don't remember if I used a scroll saw when I made these, but I did have one. A cast iron AMT brand scroll saw I no longer own, but it is still being used. I gave it o a friend after I bought my EX21. How long ago did I make these? Pretty close to forty years ago.

  39. Bare with me on this. The top photo is an F-16 as we were coming home. It is a unit that a mentor of mine was in during WWII. The bottom photo is a cut I made of his aircraft from the same unit, just 70 years later. The middle photo is one I made for my workcenter that operates F-16’s. I was torn which one to post because the P-51 is an awesome aircraft that changed the tide of the war and I am honored to know this gentleman, but yet I worked on or around for close to 30 years. Now one can see my problem? That is why I have both.

  50. Ohhh Boy... I'm looking forward to this one.. Only thing is.. I need to pick one or maybe a few of my car projects since I have over 60 car clocks listed on various websites not to mention puzzles, portraits and ornaments.. I'm going to have to think about what ones have the best story to go along with them.. I guess since you said your first car was a 83 Camaro.. I'll start with one of those, LOL.. I'll think about something personal and post it along with a story behind it I suppose..
