    Puzzle Stool

I have made a lot of these puzzle stools in different variations. I mortised the legs into the top on my scroll saw. Would be happy to share the pattern along with the lettering.

This was a huge project for me. Found the photo, made the pattern, did the cut. Here is the original photo, the corrected pattern (I hope no floaters) and the finished cut. I do believe I am just going to clear coat this one, of course on a dark walnut background. I will replace the pattern in the pattern library.

  5. I cut this one for our upcoming Fourth of July. Picture depicts Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson drafting the Declaration of Independence. Our founding fathers had incredible courage.

  6. I have had this pattern for a long time and I believe I got it from the Scroll saw magazine, quite awhile back. I just ran across is as I was looking for a different one and I showed it to my wife and she said she would like one of them. So here it is. I do not remember who the pattern maker is. I am quite disappointed in how it came out, as I found myself having to take it apart but still could not seem to get it right. From the far side of the room, it looks ok though. I only posted it because I don't want anyone to think I am sitting on my duff, watching TV Dick heppnerguy

  11. No, you can't. But you could rip them into 6" manageable pieces to the length you need. You then cut those into 1/4" thick pieces or whatever thickness you need. My table saw can cut 3" inches deep and I flip the piece over to cut the other half for a total of 6 inches wide or whatever size you need to get to the desired width. You then glue the pieces together to make the required width you need. I needed a piece a about 12.3" wide wide by 1/4" thick. In my case I made 2 - 4" pieces and 1 - 5" piece and glued the 3 together. That is exactly what I did for my clock. You need a good rip blade to do it. I used my thin kerf, Forest 10" blade. Of course a bandsaw would be a better choice. But if you don't have one..... One final comment. If you would be able to cut a piece of cedar 18" wide x 1/4" inch think I can almost guarantee you it will curl or cup. The fretwork below is 3 pieces of walnut glued together. It is the top piece of my clock.

  12. Since I ordered bottle stoppers, I had to come up with different handle design. Different from the cat lid opener from a previous post. I chose a yellow butterfly on a redish flower, because wine gives people butterflies. Well I think that is why they drink it. Maybe it is the oil and vinager that attracted the butterfly. Oh well, this is for my neighbor. She can make up her own story. Wood used: Red gum 3/4" Yellow heart 1/4" Food safe finish. Shellac first , then Carnuba wax, butcher block conditioner. Found Johnson paste wax. Did not use oily butcher block. Mark

  13. I've seen this cut a couple of times and decided I needed a bad guy for the cowboy section of my shop walls. I made a couple of changes since I cut it on a smaller piece of red oak, about 5 1/2 X 7 1/2. I preferred it without a tongue also so I removed that. Not that any changes were needed. Charles is the man. Just personal preference. Well, bye!

    My 1st Name Puzzle

I've made a lot of these name puzzles. I usually set my saw at a 4 degree angle so the letters go in easier. This is the font I use so I don't have to worry about islands.

  17. I have a neighbor a couple of houses from us and her husband has had cancer and she told me he was now on hospice and not doing very well. They are really nice people and I wanted to be sure and have a memorial plaque done to give her when the time comes so I cut it yesterday and I have it ready for that sad and lonely time. So sorry to hear about his suffering. I know his wife will be very lonely when that day gets here and she no longer will have his companionship. This is a Sue Mey pattern from her site....www.scrollsawartist.com Dick heppnerguy

  20. Look for as "real wood " cabinet maker in your area and check if they have a band saw set up for "resawing". May cost you a few bucks but worth it to get a number of thin pieces. If they will, have them run the pieces through thier wide belt sander to remove all the saw marks.

  21. You could do it with a table saw. I do it quite often with a thin kerf rip blade.

    My 1st Name Puzzle

I've made a few but hadn't thought about cutting on an angle and will be doing that from now one. It can be pretty tedious even for a grown up putting the letters in. Do you know the name of this font? I searched for Word Art and didn't come up with anything.

  26. found out about it by tearing down a crib for my niece. her son was movin on up. it made sense- probably a good idea to have some strong ply that wont warp after time with a toddler sleeping in it.

  28. I did the fine lines in the lettering VERY carefully. I used Pegas 2/0 spiral blades (they are the thinnest I can find) and I turn the speed down to the slowest setting on my saw.

I'm not sure how long this has been out? but I just run across it tonight for the first time. Reminds me of a reworked DeWalt, LOL https://www.ebay.com/itm/133778439817?hash=item1f25d0fe89:g:UU8AAOSwf1dgt6hb

Made this for my wife's cousin who has a few goats and chickens. Goat stencil from Etsy and added the text. Made from some very old pine from a door frame I picked up on the roadside.

  32. Beautiful piece Dick and will be treasured no doubt. I am sorry for their need for Hospice but having used Hospice with several family members in different health battles over the years, I know what a true blessing Hospice care is to those who are ill as well as the family members walking that path with them.

    Scroll saw puzzles

Just to clarify, Iggy, Iguanadon, Scott, and woodcraftbyScott are all one and the same person @Iguanadon who sells the puzzle patterns by Harvey Bylar. you can find a variety of free puzzle patterns to download on the magazine, “Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts” website here: http://scrollsawer.com/?s=Puzzle i did a quick search for “puzzle” on their index page. Shows 12 pages to the search, not everything probably has an actual pattern to download, but I know several do so you will just have to check the ones that interest you and see if pattern is there. Sometimes they offer them as additional bonus to ones in the print magazine.

    Old and New Sitting Bull

One of my first projects was sitting bull. I saved the cut out pieces and had an idea in mind. Here is what I came up with. Just took me 6 months to do it.

Thank you for your explanation. I thought it was darker near the edges, but I thought I might be seeing things. Yes, how you’ve painted the backer is very appealing.

  39. This is a small cedar box with the Mustang logo inlayed into the hinged lid. Inlayed using my scroll saw with the "double bevel inlay" method. I have done other car logos like this but have no photos of them.

Not sure you can cut 18" wide material on a table saw.
