    Peace Goddess

A big thanks to Multitom for the pattern work on this one. Even with the pandemic going on he spent time to work on this pattern and send it on to me to cut. Took me a bit to get to it with stuff going on also. Here she is, did it 11 X 14 on 1/8 oaK Ply. Did two different colored backgrounds just wanted it different. Thanks again Multitom. jim

There are so many versions of the Corvette and you cut a truck load of BBPW cutting them all. Thought I would go for an early classic.

  5. This is another Steve Good design called "Reflections." I cut it from 1/4 in sanded pine and backed it with the same material. The upper silhouette is painted black, of course, and the bottom, water, is painted blue. The front is finished with red pine Minwax and the entire piece is sprayed with several coats of poly. It was really a simple project but a lot of fun to cut and finish. Hope you enjoy.

  8. My wife requested I do this project as a wedding gift. I may have tackled a fairly intense project with all the fretwork but overall I feel it came out pretty darn good. This pattern, as well as the pattern from my first project, are from Steve Good.

  9. Hi everyone, just thought I would stop by and say hello. Haven.t been on in a while with all this moving. I'm finally in my new house in Florida. Still unpacking. My last pod is coming today. Still don't have my workshop set up yet to really do anything but I'm getting there. Hope to see you all soon, Ralph

  10. In the "Curious" post I mentioned the dust collection I installed on my saw. I've had requests for pictures, so here goes. It works pretty good. I can saw, with the door closed, and my wife does not even have to turn the TV up. Sorry it took so long to post the pictures, very poor internet at home, and too busy at work, where I usually visit this site. Thanks for looking Jim

  11. So prices have stabilized in my area for hard/soft woods - ply continues to be wonky so I'm avoiding it for a bit. Anyway, just wanted to mention to be on lookout for discarded furniture and pieces. Yesterday while walking the dogs, I noticed a neighbor had thrown out a bunch of cabinet doors. I grabbed them all and found out they are all solid wood - looks like poplar, about 1/2" thick. Neighbor came out and said he had a dresser he was throwing out as well. SCORE! Solid oak! about 1/2" all around. A few drawer rungs were pine but most of it oak! just a reminder to keep an eye out for discarded treasure!

    New Pegas clamps

After dealing with worn out clamps on my EX-16, thought it was time for an upgrade. I am a top feeder and had replaced my bottom clamp once and even put in a helicoil in the thread but everything eventually it all got too wobbly. Called Denny at Artcrafters and had my replacement in 3 days! I took my deck off and it made for a much easier replacement. The top was in actually in good shape but the bottom was a different story. Needle bearings were a little dirty and didn't rotate properly but with a little cleaning, they were back to good working order. Actual replacement on both the top and bottom were very easy. I figured out a while back that having the thumb screw on the left on the bottom worked better for me so I could position the blade with my right hand. Moved the stop screw to the right side with no problem. No major tension adjustments needed and all is working well. Thanks Denny for quick delivery and and answering some set up questions.

    Buterfly and Flowers

I found this free simple, yet elegant, B&W Wood Burning Stencil on line that I converted in Inkscape to a scroll saw pattern. The conversion was mainly the addition of bridges and resizing to suit an 11 x 17 panel. The cut panel is 1/8” BB Ply affixed to a 1/4” BB Ply backer. The cutting was relatively easy and was completed with Pegas #2/0 spiral blades. From the onset it was my intention to make this a colored piece. Both the cut panel and the backer was hand painted using Acrylic Art paints. Since the image is raised, all edges of the cut panel needed to be painted also. This is a real pain in the butt process. The painting process took quite a few hours to complete. Of course as usual the assembled panel was finished with multiple coats of Clear Spray Gloss Lacquer. The Frame, once again, is a made of 1 3/4” wide Poplar but finished a little differently this time. I used Minwax Classic Black Poly/Stain laid on heavy (3 coats) to create a high gloss finish. I think it adds a little “pop” to this piece. (I need to get a different color backdrop for my photo booth to use with black frames.) Critique of this work is always welcomed. Edit: Changed back drop in my photo booth.

    Another Horse Project

Frank, Please don't apologize for any criticism you send my way. To explain why I did what I did, simply, money. I was using what I had on hand to cut and finish. While I'm not living in a tent or under a bridge, I do have to be frugal with what I purchase. I do anticipate a time when I can run down to the local lumber company and purchase exotic pieces of wood to turn into art but at the moment I can't afford to do that. Especially with the current prices of lumber being so high. I've even resorted to breaking down furniture and cabinets a friend was going to dispose of so I could try to get a better quality of wood for my projects. Also, when I selected the pattern from Steve's catalog, I saw that he had painted his backing all black. I was just trying to do something different and used the only blue I had on hand. I agree it would have been much better with a milder, less intrusive color. I'm not sure if I could have colored the non-reflecting horse a natural color without it blending into the stained color of the cut board. True, a white would have been more "eye drawing" but as you said the blue from the reflection would have been a distraction. Like I said earlier, I'm not offended by criticism. I've only been at this a couple months. And because I'm still working full-time I'm only able to scroll about one day a week. So as far as experience, I have very little and any advise is greatly appreciated. Rodney

    Cowboy Trifecta

This project (set) was found on the net and unfortunately there was no name to give credit. I tend to finish my projects where the grain from the wood will show but on this project I decided to blend some paints and try to give it a desert effect. Both the front and back are 1/4 inch sanded pine, some I've had for over 20 years. It was very brittle and there were a few chip-outs in places. It was cut with a FD #5 Ultra Reverse blade. I was happy with the way it turned out and apparently the first person I showed it to thought so also. He purchased the set before I could carry them across the road to show my niece who is a horse fanatic. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I did cutting them.

  39. When I tried the artfactory I had googled fretwork clock patterns. The artfactory came up in a list. I clicked on it and it said the site could not be reached. Kinda weird as I have done that many times without a problem. Typing the .com address worked. Thank you for the replies!

    Wanted to try fretwork

Forgot to mention I cut this from a 1x12 pine. Had it on hand and just starting out scrolling I haven't spent a lot of money on materials. I can see that will change soon. Got the bug and I'm sure I'll be sticking with the hobby. Also, seeing the pieces others have done with various woods has me drooling.

Wow this is a thick piece. Your script curves are smooth and the straights looks really good. What blade(s) did you use? Type of wood? Good job.

    Sticker Shock!

I'm thinking I can make more off my plywood as a full sheet than I can spending hours drilling hundreds of holes and cutting the projects out of it.. save me a lot of time to just sell it as is, LOL A bird flew in from another country and told me this year is going to be a big inflation year.. so I bought about 40 sheets at $11 a 5x5 x1/8.. I should be good for a little while. I also bought a 150bdft. of lumber.. but I need more.. I learned just how fast you can make ornamental fire wood with the CNC and laser. I might go back to my supplier and pick up another 100 bdft. You can count on hardwood lumber going up if it hasn't already, Talking to my brother at the mill.. hardwood pallets/skids that used to sell for $18 is now $54.. this will be trickling down the line to the consumer soon with just about every product sold.
