    Meercat

Firstly I would like to thank Mahendra for the fantastic Meercat pattern. Also to apologise to Mahendra for taking so long to cut the pattern after he went to all the trouble to make it for me. I had a fall at home which injured my shoulder and left me unable to do any cutting in the workshop. thankfully I can now get back to cutting again. The Meercat was cut from 4mm Birch ply and finished with 2 coats of sanding sealer and 2 coats of Lacquer. Hope you like the finished item. Keith.

    Donation Piece

I completed this project at my wife's request as a donation to raise money for an animal shelter. I did the cutting and finished it in the colors she wanted. It is cut from 1/2 inch sanded pine with 1/4 inch backer. As my usual, I cut it with a #5 Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse. The stain is antique oak, not one of my favorites, and then finished with clear gloss.

  3. Hi everyone, just thought I would stop by and say hello. Haven.t been on in a while with all this moving. I'm finally in my new house in Florida. Still unpacking. My last pod is coming today. Still don't have my workshop set up yet to really do anything but I'm getting there. Hope to see you all soon, Ralph

There are so many versions of the Corvette and you cut a truck load of BBPW cutting them all. Thought I would go for an early classic.

  6. This is another Steve Good design called "Reflections." I cut it from 1/4 in sanded pine and backed it with the same material. The upper silhouette is painted black, of course, and the bottom, water, is painted blue. The front is finished with red pine Minwax and the entire piece is sprayed with several coats of poly. It was really a simple project but a lot of fun to cut and finish. Hope you enjoy.

    Peace Goddess

A big thanks to Multitom for the pattern work on this one. Even with the pandemic going on he spent time to work on this pattern and send it on to me to cut. Took me a bit to get to it with stuff going on also. Here she is, did it 11 X 14 on 1/8 oaK Ply. Did two different colored backgrounds just wanted it different. Thanks again Multitom. jim

    My First Project

This was the first project I completed. My niece has a horse tack store and does horse training and riding lessons. She displays a lot of my projects to see if they will sell.

  10. My wife requested I do this project as a wedding gift. I may have tackled a fairly intense project with all the fretwork but overall I feel it came out pretty darn good. This pattern, as well as the pattern from my first project, are from Steve Good.

  11. So prices have stabilized in my area for hard/soft woods - ply continues to be wonky so I'm avoiding it for a bit. Anyway, just wanted to mention to be on lookout for discarded furniture and pieces. Yesterday while walking the dogs, I noticed a neighbor had thrown out a bunch of cabinet doors. I grabbed them all and found out they are all solid wood - looks like poplar, about 1/2" thick. Neighbor came out and said he had a dresser he was throwing out as well. SCORE! Solid oak! about 1/2" all around. A few drawer rungs were pine but most of it oak! just a reminder to keep an eye out for discarded treasure!

  18. In my introduction post I mentioned I usually cut animal projects. I did complete a lighthouse project recently. The pattern is from Steve Good and I tried to be a little artistic with the painting on the backer board. I'm in NC and we have 7 coastal lighthouses. I started to try and copy one of the patterns on the state's lighthouses but decided I liked the grain of the wood better.

  21. Here's a few beach type things I've done. Guess I'll have to cut something else "beachy" this month. The two lighthouses are window shutters I did for a lady last summer. I made two panels from Poplar, about 16"w x 26"h x 1" d

  22. In the "Curious" post I mentioned the dust collection I installed on my saw. I've had requests for pictures, so here goes. It works pretty good. I can saw, with the door closed, and my wife does not even have to turn the TV up. Sorry it took so long to post the pictures, very poor internet at home, and too busy at work, where I usually visit this site. Thanks for looking Jim

  28. You are so right Kevin. My point was to say that if customer service and parts availability are important to the buyer, Seyco would have to be my first choice. As you know, it's not that big a deal for me. I would lean heavily on the Pegas if they had a phone number where you could actually speak to a representative when you needed help. As far as I know, they still aren't servicing ALL the parts in their saws. To me, that says something. At one point it looked like Bob Duncan was going to be that person but I hear he is no longer affiliated with Pegas. I know Denny is our go-to guy here on The Village but even he doesn't have access to all the parts that might be needed. I made the statement regarding "buying American" not because of the country of origin but to support an American company that is marketing good products. I hope you get my drift.
    1 point
  29. While Seyco may be an American company which is good to support those American companies. I personally see no real difference in buying a Pegas from an American distributor such as Artcrafters which is an American company considering both saws are actually made in the same assembly plant... as well as the King brands and all the other names they put on them other than the General International Excalibur model which is a China made knock off unless you get a old one with that name on it as you have. American "Made" saws are Hawk and PSWoods.. Hawk makes all their parts in house the last I knew, not sure on the PSWoods saw. Yes Hawk does have some parts made from other countries such as possibly the electronics and maybe bearings as they do not "make" those parts of the saw. I'm not trying to say one saw is better than any other saw, just making a statement that I personally wouldn't skip out on a Pegas just because of the "American company thing" when I can buy a Pegas from an American company too. I might change my tune on that IF the Seyco was actually made in America.. but it's not, its made in the same place most all those other saws of that style are made. I personally like the Pegas clamps better than the Seyco ones even though Seyco does have a better clamp than the Excalibur, King, and etc. branded saws. Also like the tilting mechanism on the Pegas better. If I were buying a new saw and those type saws is what I was after I'd go with Pegas.

  34. I hear it from the bottom arm and the back where the motor is... All bolts are in tight and where they came from. I was meticulous about marking where each one came from.. The knocking was there before I took it apart, and did not get less after putting the synthetic grease in the bearings.. I guess I'll just keep using it, for now.. Between another Dewalt, a Pegas, or a Seyco, which one would you all go with... I love the tensioning of the Dewalt.

  36. Earlier in the spring I took it apart and greased them all. I did not feel any were loose or starting to fall apart. None of the sleeves showed any discoloration from heat build up. So here is a video of it.. I did grind down some of that aluminum cover from the tension rod. I did not see any marks on the bottom at all from anything hitting it, so I don't think that's the problem. 20210709_163436.mp4

  37. Your set-up looks very nice and clean. Ray is correct. The aluminum cyclone will be your vacuums best friend. Will keep you from constantly changing filters. Scroll saw dust is so very fine, it will clog a filter in no time at all. The little cyclones are very efficient. I know you will be happy with your DC.

  46. My array of Beach/Nautical/Ttropical cuttings is quite extensive. Some are from way back when I had first started up to my more recent work. Most of my latest work is intended to apeal to the Beach Community here along the Atlantic Coast of Central Florida. A lot of what we call beach side home owners love to decorate their high cost homes with a lot of beachy things. This first piece was one of my very early attempts at creating a pattern and then adding color to the finished piece. This last one hangs in my living room and we call it our aquariumn:

  47. A couple of mine. Saw the waves in an article about Fiona Kingdon in SSWW magazine, always wanted to cut one of hers, and it looked like a challenge. Hint....it was. Viking ship was an H.Botas pattern, as was the pirate owl (cuz, c'mon, who DOESN'T need a cutting of a pirate owl?!?), picked those up from his Etsy shop. Nautilus gears were from Steve Good, working gears are always fun to cut.
