Actually it's Cloe and Cooper. Many thanks to Russ Beard for the great patterns. These are my daughter's miniature Yorkies. 1/8" pre finished BB, #2/0 Pike blades.

    Just some stuff..

So I am going to try to get an Etsy store going, basically because I don't have the room to keep everything I make. I started taking some pics this evening, but I really don't like the pics. I need to come up with a better way to stage the items for Etsy.. but here are some things I cut prob back in 2011-2012, and they have been sitting in a 6qt sterilite tub since then.. The bigger wall pieces are Cherry and Ash. The box is cherry. The smaller Christmas ornaments are cherry and maple, and the feathers are red oak and ash glued together.. Ornaments and feathers are 1/8" and were stack cut so there are even more still in the box. The feathers are stack cut in two's so that when you cut across the part where the wood changes, they match up and can be glued together. I believe all of these are Sheila Landry designs... as usual for me. LOL

  3. Okay, I may have slipped up. The wife decided she was not happy with it and took over the project. As much as I like the contrast in the grain and agree with many who have commented that the lion looks like he is peering through slats with a ray of sunlight across his face, the wife did a fantastic job with her finishing touches.

    1938 Horch 853

Horch (1899-1939) August Horch was the manager of Karl Benz's factory between 1896 and 1899, when he decided to set up his own car manufacturing business. His first car was built in 1901 but things were tough and by 1909 Horch was squeezed out of his own company by its board of directors. He retaliated by setting up a new company called Audi, which would join the Auto Union alongside Horch in 1932. Horch would continue to produce cars under its own name until 1939, but after the war the company's Zwickau factory was in East Germany so it was turned over to truck production under the Soviets. As part of the Auto Union group, the dormant Horch brand is now owned by Volkswagen. The Horch was at the Concors D’Elegance at Pebble Beach and won best in show and was recently sold in auction for 6+ million. 1938 Horch 853 | conceptcarz.com In the original design, I did do the very narrow grill but because of the size (EX-16) I couldn't cut the individual pieces of the grill and started to wander. I could have done it with a larger SS.

  5. I went to Lowes to get a sheet of 3/4" birch plywood, last week it was about $76.00. I got it for $65.00 on Sunday so it does look like some prices are coming down.

  6. I just went to my local lumber co, bought a couple sheets of 1/4 BB. A few mth's ago it was $12 a sheet, now $16.70 I was told the lumber prices are on their way down. I hope so. I need to build some back steps.

  7. Yeah, roger that! I have on my "to-do" list making a large cabinet for my wife's cake making equipment, but decided to wait until (hopefully) the price increasing bubble bursts.

  8. I've been working on this project for about a month. (I only get to work at scrolling about a day or day and a half per week.) The wood is from a discarded table and is MDF with veneer on both sides. It is 3/4 inches thick and very heavy. The piece is 11 x 14 and the pattern is from "Grandpa." (Thanks Paul) I cut it using Pegus MGT #3 and #5 and also some FD #5 UR. I finished it with natural oil and gave it a half dozen coats of clear gloss. I chose this piece of wood because I thought the dark and light grain in the veneer was unique but now that the project is finished I wonder if I made the right decision. The picture makes it appear to have a rough finish but it is actually very smooth. My wife works for a school and the mascot is a lion. She has already claimed it as her own and she is happy with it. I guess I should just remember the old saying, "Happy Wife, Happy Life!"

    Jewelry Box

Needed to take a break from doing framed, flat panel portrait work and make something different. I have had this Side and End wall bird battern for a very long time and have revisited it often. It did include the base pattern, but there were no patterns/details for the top or bottom. I had to design them on the fly. The box is nom 12” wide by 8” deep and 4” high. I really did not realize how large the box was until I began to assemble it. Since the box was quite large I decided it needed a divided drop-in tray. The box outer walls, base, top and bottom is solid red oak. The red painted wall backers, inside box bottom, inside base top and the inside box tray supports were made from 1/8” BB ply (cut from my cut-off scrap pile). The tray was made from 1/4" Red Oak solid core ply and has a depth of 1 1/4 inches. Because I did not realize the size of the box, I was forced to purchase a 6 foot length of Red Oak 1” by 12” (3/4” by 11 1/2“) to make the top and bottom. Big $$$$$. The available 2 foot long boards at Lowes were not quite long enough as I need 26 inches. So I now have a nice 3’-10” length left for another future project. I planed the bottom down to 1/2”. For the top I rabbeted the bottom perimeter 1/4"deep so the top has a lid keeper that projects into the box. I sanded a small round on each corner and I used a small ogee router bit to put a decorative edge all around the top and bottom. Everything was finished with many coats of clear gloss Lacquer after which I lined the tray and the lower box with red felt. A very sticky job as I was using contact cement. I'm contemplating installing some small hinges as the top is heavy and will be cumbersome to remove and replace during use. I’m attaching a few pics as it is hard to show all the detail in one. Feel free to critique my work. . Edit 7/3/21: It was requested I post pics with the hinges installed. I was able to mortice the hinges into the box and lid to get the lid to land flat on the box. The lid does not need a hold open device because of the lids overhang.

  14. Thanks Frank. Right now the edges are exposed. I was planning on cutting some lumber for a frame but the material I have on hand was just to warped and twisted. Thanks for the info on the "L" molding. I'll definitely check that out and will be going to Lowe's this coming weekend. We are in the middle of a bathroom remodel and have an order to be picked up on Sunday. I agree that the wife is the one who "MADE" this project. She is an art teacher and her eye is much better than mine when it comes to colors. I've tried to get her interested in scrolling but she has no desire to work with tools. Maybe my best tactic would be to do the cuts and let her do the finishing.

I am in Virginia moving to Bangor, Maine. I would prefer excellent condition. If I have to get some parts I will I can still get them if Bushton ever answers the phone and replies to emails. better the quality the more I will pay. If its a long distance deal I could use some help. The better the saw the more I will pay.

  16. Quite a few of these older saws has oil light brass bushings.. what is oil light? It's lubricant impregnated into the brass material so they are basically self lubricating. I do not know if your saw is that way but most all saws that have a brass bushing / bearing have the oil-light brass. If it has actual ball / needle type bearings then they need oil or grease. .. I'm betting this saw is brass bushing / bearing. These saws generally run fairly smooth unless the bushing / bearing is worn.. and if really worn you usually see a blade that looks blurred when the saw is running especially at higher speeds. These brass bushings do wear out and need replacing from time to time. That is typically the only maintenance the arms require.

  21. I did not reply to the original because I would have been accused of beeing too negative as I did not care for the presentation. For me, and me alone, this is what I think it should look like. Great Job by the better half to make it an outstanding piece. How are you handleing the perimeter edges. Is the MDF exposed? If it is, I hope you sealed it well. A length of 3/4" "L" moulding from Lowes or HD can be made into a simple frame that would hide the MDF edges. They also sell some iron- n banding material that can be used to hide exposed MDF edges.

Great job, Frank. I don't think you went wrong with the red felt however I don't think CSull is wrong thinking a blue would have worked. Fact is, the piece is so beautiful it doesn't matter what color liner was used.

  41. We planned a kitchen remodel for April of 2020 & the way things went last year it was never started. Fortunately we purchased cabinets & 90% of the material in March of 2020 and missed the majority of the price hikes. Prices were moving up and I'm glad I bought and stored the material. We started the remodel April of this year and the few times I had to purchase 2x4x8' lumber from Lowes I found it cheaper to buy a 2x8x10' ,$4.00 cheaper, & rip it in half than 2- 2x4"s@ $9.00 each. The two times I did this the price tag scanned higher at the register than the posted price on the rack, once almost $5.00 a board more. They did give me the posted price but I wondered how many times this happened and the customer didn't catch it.

  44. Last week, I glanced at a sheet of plywood, can't remember the thickness, but it was $92 and change! Probably 1/2", but may have been what passes for 3/4" now. I don't use anything like that, but my head hurts just thinking about folks trying to build a cabinet carcass. (Or, God forbid, a whole kitchen of cabinets.)

  45. I was born and raised in a lumber town. I hope the prices for lumber continue to rise until they reach a reasonable level and stay there. Where reasonable allows towns such as mine to prosper rather than to suffer from the boom and bust economy that the town has endured for over 100 years.
