This is another free downloadable stencil I found and converted to a scroll saw pattern having only 31 holes. The pattern was sized to fit a 9” x 17” cut panel. The cut panel is 5/32” Solid Core Birch Ply (not BB Ply), cut using Pegas #2/0 Spiral Blades. The backer is 1/4” x 11” x 19” Solid Core Mahogany. The backer is hand painted under the cut area using Acrylic Artist Paints. The cut panel also has some areas hand painted with the contrasting light Pink Acrylic Paints. The panel was protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Spray Lacquer. The stencil was in B&W but I was able to find many similar images of the Pink Panther that showed me the colors to use in this presentation. The Frame is 1 3/4” wide Poplar that was stained with Minwax Natural stain and then coated with two coats of Minwax Clear Gloss Wipe-On Poly. Decided to leave it Natural since the grain in this piece of Poplar was very nice, without the typical dark greenish coloration often found in Poplar. Was able to get this completed in only two days before having my knee surgery tomorrow (7/29). Comment and critique is always welcome and appreciated. I'm thinking this piece will be part of a wimsicle series, along with my previous "Cockerel", if I find some more to do.

This pushed me away from a new hawk. Maybe it’s time I engineer a new All American made saw and focus on quality, consistency, durability and reliability. And a beautiful saw none the less. Either you farm or run a business. You can’t state open certain hours and have no customer service. Farm or manufacture. I have had my own problems over the years getting wrong parts and mis machined parts. I got one of the new barrel deals installed in my upper arm on one saw I wore out and my arm came back with that barrel almost 22 degrees from where it should be. It took a total of 8 weeks to get it done the first time and another 3 weeks to have them replace my arm with a new one. I just thought it was me for the longest time. I just thought maybe they were slammed but now After hearing other owners it seems we need a new maker out there. Let me think over if I want to create a new American made saw and compete.

I was really proud of this box until I realized that I had screwed up putting it together. Pretty well tore it up trying to get it apart. I was able to salvage the top and bottom and at least I noticed my screw up before I spent the time finishing it.

I'd love to see another USA made saw come to the market. I do think it'd be quite tough to get enough business to make a living on just scroll saws which is why I believe the folks at Bushton do farming and have their hands into a few other things.. Scroll saws are not super popular to begin with.. and 98% of folks look at the "cheap price" and not the "poor quality" when saw shopping.

  13. Certainly, not enough of the money gets to the workers. But, some does and I can tell you that there is now full employment at (mostly) decent wages in the mills and the forests in and near my hometown.

  15. I use the same process that I use to clean router bits or any table saw blade or dado set. Here are links to two products I've used, I kinda think the CMT is a bit better. The brand I like best, I can no longer find anywhere. (that figures) I fold the blade, like when its new, and then put it in a shallow tray/bowel that holds the blade. I spray or mix the solution, let it soak for 15-20 minutes or so. Use a brush to get off the resin build up. Rinse and blow dry. The used cleaner solvent down the sink. In my experience the blades work better when clean. https://www.amazon.com/Trend-CLEAN-500-Cleaner-Clear/dp/B003OC35MQ/ref=sr_1_2?crid=C9L2J1EMIPXJ&dchild=1&keywords=saw+blade+cleaner+spray&qid=1627573901&sprefix=saw+blade+cleaner%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-2 https://www.rockler.com/router-bit-and-saw-blade-cleaning-kit

Rolf, I answered you over on the magazine forum. Only ones I have located with that name is a bandsaw box and a compound cut, bird in a cage, in the Spring, 2013, Issue 50 by Sue Mey. It is not on Sue’s website that I found. here is photo of it from the magazine.

    Just some stuff..

So I am going to try to get an Etsy store going, basically because I don't have the room to keep everything I make. I started taking some pics this evening, but I really don't like the pics. I need to come up with a better way to stage the items for Etsy.. but here are some things I cut prob back in 2011-2012, and they have been sitting in a 6qt sterilite tub since then.. The bigger wall pieces are Cherry and Ash. The box is cherry. The smaller Christmas ornaments are cherry and maple, and the feathers are red oak and ash glued together.. Ornaments and feathers are 1/8" and were stack cut so there are even more still in the box. The feathers are stack cut in two's so that when you cut across the part where the wood changes, they match up and can be glued together. I believe all of these are Sheila Landry designs... as usual for me. LOL

  21. Cleans battery cables too. Its a violent action when the two mix. When I get new bandsaw blades I give them a coat of this stuff. Apply it let it cure and your all set. https://www.pswood.com/bostik-bladecote-10-75-oz/

Hi Frank: You probably know this but I'm going to tell you anyway: After your surgery, listen to what the doctors tell you. It may be a P.I.T.A. to do the exercise/therapy everyday but it the long run you will up and running in no time - A few of my friends had surgery and thought they knew a better/faster way of healing they quickly found out that they were so wrong Good Luck, see you when you get back on your leg (feet) Oh yeah, PP looks great. well done Fab4

  23. Fantastic Paul. And I need to thank you for my latest project. I pulled your pattern of a lion from the library. The pattern and cut were great, my choice of wood not so much. Fortunately my wife added her touch with paints and it turned out great. It's posted in the "Bragging Rights." BTW, the lion is the mascot at the school my wife works at. She plans to display it in her classroom when school starts.

  28. I haven't seen this article - I wonder where the prices are going down, because it sure is not in my area! My area tends to NOT be similar to the rest of the country

  29. We have sawmills in the area, going full steam with construction grade spruce, quality lumber gets shipped out of the country, the rest goes to British Columbia and none to our local lumber yards here as our Rona and Pineland get their supply from British Columbia. I wonder what is with that!

    Just some stuff..

Applying shipping costs to your sales on Ebay is the pits. I pulled out of attemps to set up sales pages on Amazon Home Made, Ebay and Etsy. Unless you are really serious and a real business it is a lot of work and a pain to keep tabs on everything. I lost patience real quick. And, BTW, if you want to take payments using Paypal, you need to have a Business EIN Number from the IRS. If you want to shoot photos of your "stuff" that is appropriate for use in on-line sales, you might want to consider purchaing a small table top photo box that includes lights and smooth continuous backdrops in various colors, but White, Black and Dark Grey are the best to use. Images need to be crisp and bright. These Photo Boxes are available on Amazon for under a $100. The newer smart phone cameras work well but a digital camera offers better control and adjustments. Shadows are your worse enemy when taking photos of the "Stuff". A Ring Light (by Neewer or similar) can also be used to almost eliminate shadows and are designed to work with smart phones as well as digital cameras. Please don't take this as expert advice, just what I have encountered. Others may be be able to provide better information. A query in Business Side might get you more accurate information and help.

  38. Just checked my local Home Depot online today. I was looking for some poplar. I checked the price of a 1" X 10". This is what I found. 1" by 10" x 8' Poplar S4S 2-pack $139.00 That's about $8.69 a lineal foot. If you buy just one board it is over $9.00 a lineal foot. Outrageous. It's going to have to come down a lot before I pay that. I'm glad I had been buying and stocking up some wood prior to these crazy prices we see now.

  39. This is NOT hyper inflation. What's the interest rate on a house today? Something like 2%. When I bought my first house '72 we paid 15.5%!!!! That's inflation.

  40. Same here is sunny Southern California. Prices go up but NEVER come back down to where they were. As our dollar becomes less and less valuable, we will have to live with the hyper inflation.
