    Christmas in July!

At least it's not a lump of coal. Tired of messing with cleaning clogged nozzles on the 3M 77 spray cans. Someone recently advised that these were available so I ordered them. I just placed an order for the larger caps for paint cans with a female tip.

    Christmas in July!

I don't know where Les got those.. they're all the same and some cans have different style nozzles.. I just googled "spray can nozzles.. and came up with this mix of styles.. There are others that are just of one style etc. on etsy too. I'm sure doing the same search on Amazon or Ebay will result in many options as well. https://www.etsy.com/listing/679310878/lot-of-spray-paint-can-caps-mixed-male?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=spray+can+nozzles&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&organic_search_click=1&frs=1

    Dream Scroll Saw

It would have some sort of balance wheel like a sewing machine so I could go one stroke at a time in tight areas by turning the wheel by hand. Also it would use most of the blade. It has to be able to go super slow as well. Again, like an industrial sewing machine can if you finesse it right.

If you have a link for ones that go on spray paint can please list that one. Tired of rummaging through 5-6 cans to find one that still has a cap on it that is not clogged.

    The Pink Panther

This is another free downloadable stencil I found and converted to a scroll saw pattern having only 31 holes. The pattern was sized to fit a 9” x 17” cut panel. The cut panel is 5/32” Solid Core Birch Ply (not BB Ply), cut using Pegas #2/0 Spiral Blades. The backer is 1/4” x 11” x 19” Solid Core Mahogany. The backer is hand painted under the cut area using Acrylic Artist Paints. The cut panel also has some areas hand painted with the contrasting light Pink Acrylic Paints. The panel was protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Spray Lacquer. The stencil was in B&W but I was able to find many similar images of the Pink Panther that showed me the colors to use in this presentation. The Frame is 1 3/4” wide Poplar that was stained with Minwax Natural stain and then coated with two coats of Minwax Clear Gloss Wipe-On Poly. Decided to leave it Natural since the grain in this piece of Poplar was very nice, without the typical dark greenish coloration often found in Poplar. Was able to get this completed in only two days before having my knee surgery tomorrow (7/29). Comment and critique is always welcome and appreciated. I'm thinking this piece will be part of a wimsicle series, along with my previous "Cockerel", if I find some more to do.

    Christmas in July!

I don't know how to post a link. Kevin has done so. There are 2 kinds off cans that are universal. Male and female. Spray cans like 3M 77 are female. The hole at the top go inward. Paint spray cans like Krylon are male. The spout protrudes. So it is easy to determine which you need. Mine came from Amazon. 20 for $14 something plus shipping. Just under $20. Did not qualify for prime. Kevin shows some cheaper on ebay but I was too lazy to do much searching. Either way it's worth it.

A few years ago, you could have bought the rights to manufacture the Eclipse scroll saw. For a lot of scrollers, that was the perfect saw.

Be careful what you say...I might just do that sometime I passed through your neighborhood last Sunday. We had been down in the Rio Grande Valley seeing friends and looking for a place to buy. Went through that mess of a construction zone on I-35W and on north. We miss living in the RGV and want to move back.

True. And cnc has taken over. But if my saws ship for free and I back the product up things should go somewhat smooth. One change I would make is that the saws would be sent in wood crates. I know it adds weight but then if someone needed service the saw could be shipped without damage or worry. My saws wont be just machined aluminum and formed steel. I have some other ideas in mind. and those I keep to myself for now.

  17. I love puzzles, especially animal puzzles, and this one is especially fun for kids because you can hide a little Jonah inside that rattles around, so if they solve the puzzle, they rescue Jonah! The only challenge I found was doing these is they are thick hardwood, meaning it’s difficult to eject the sawdust, and the blade tends to wander and tends to overheat.

  18. Lets talk what everyones dream scroll saw would be. If you could wiggle your nose and have a saw appear in front of you right now. What would it look like? What color would it be? What size? What features would it have?

    Christmas in July!

For the most part, the nozzle doesn’t clog up. The adhesive builds up at the nozzle opening. I simply wipe off the nozzle with my thumb after every use. I used to soak them in mineral spirits but I don’t need to anymore now that I routinely wipe it off.

    Dream Scroll Saw

I'm not worried about colors.. functionality is where its at for me, LOL. That said.. Pegas saws look pretty sharp with the two tone paint.. Excalibur made a black and gold anniversary edition a few years ago that looked pretty cool. That new WEN looks pretty sharp with the orange and black so maybe a two tone paint scheme...

    Dream Scroll Saw

I'm not sure what my "dream saw" would be and I like each of my saws for different reasons, so I doubt you could make the perfect saw for me, LOL Such as.. I like the short arms of the EX and that the blade aggression can be fine tuned.. even on the straightest up down movement it still a little more aggressive than the Hawk is.. so in cutting thicker materials I like using the EX.. I like the larger throat of the Hawk.. and it's a great all around saw.. I think a little more robust than the EX type saws. Something to think about in designing a saw in my mind is.. what is already out there.. is there something people look for in particular.. what mods do people do to improve the saws they have.. Saw size and weight come to mind.. Lots of options in the 18 - 22 inch size.. not much out there for small compact lightweight "travel" saws.. Hegner makes the small 14" saw but it's single speed.. Hawk used to make 12, 14, 16, inch saws.. which was mostly single speed too.. a few VS not many though. Hawk and EX seem to be the only ones making anything larger than 22". A lot of folks are disconnecting the air blower and making a dust collection for both top and bottom of saw collection.. seems to be a smarter way to collect it and control it at the source rather than blowing it into the air and having it land all over the other tools, cars, etc.. But that would be a costly saw to have a onboard vacuum system.. not everyone would want that. I like the tilting saw head over the tilting table.. even though I rarely tilt my saws.. having a knob and is geared to make the fine tuned adjustments is a nice feature.. sure beats tapping the table to get it just in the right spot.. I have no experience with the Jet saw but that upper clamp that tensions and clamps the blade in one simple lever is pretty intriguing and the only one of it's kind. I'm sure it could be really nice for a lot of fretwork type cutting. I've tossed the idea of buying one just to see how I'd like it.. I always say my saw of choice if I were to buy a new one is a Pegas.. But that Jet clamp makes me thing hard about going that route too.. Pegas clamps are awesome.. but I'm fascinated by those Jet upper clamps. Years ago old equipment used to have little oil ports on them.. not sure you've ever seen them.. Just a little tube like thing above a bearing and it had a spring loaded flapper top on it.. it allowed you to push the cap up to open it and place a couple drops of oil to a bearing.. Hawk and Hegner saws are not enclosed in covers etc but most other saws are.. and not any easy way to lube them.. though having them enclosed helps keep dust and dirt out of the bearings too. Having an hour meter on a saw is nice for doing scheduled maintenance, and maybe a nice feature for a warranty. But then.. there are not too many folks putting 800 hours on a saw per year either so maybe not a big deal to most.. could be to you though if you're supplying a hefty warranty. Also a dead giveaway on how much value a used saw is if one is shopping used saws.

  45. I finished this on Monday, May 13th, actually took several Mondays. The pattern is by Jacob Fowler and found in "Woodworker's Pattern Book". I used 1/2" Mahogany 8" x 12" with 3/4" Red Oak for the base. The base has a slot to hold the upright. I used FD UR #1 and #5 blades. The finish is three coats of spray Polyurethane Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

  46. Thanks, Dick. If you get the pattern, you will notice many of the changes I made so, you can probably make yours much more impressive. As far as time consuming, I think I only counted about 340 cuts with my alterations and it only took about 10 hours cutting in blocks of 1 to two hours. God Bless! Spirithorse

    Holy Baseball.

I did this one for my Kid Brother, I am use to painting all that much but I had to give it a try, He will add the Ball Players Prayer when I take it him in August. He was well pleased with it. I had trouble with the fingers, all ways do, But overall I am pleased with how it turned out. I know this has nothing to do with Scrolling, just thought I would share.

I use an ex-21 and to be honest I can not imagine a saw that outshines it (the new Pagas being the same saw basically). Maybe if I were a production cutter that would be different. RBI must be some kind of awesome saw, y'all amaze and dumbfound me with your tolerance and patience. So kudo's for that. Like someone said, I am old school, at the first sign of issues with a company, I go somewhere else and if that means a different brand so be it.
