    Small heart shaped box

Been making this little box for a while out of solid Walnut. I decided to add little something to them so I made a length of checkered material for the tops. I randomly cut the tops to maximize the material. Size is roughly 2 1/4 × 2 1/4 × 1 with the storage being 3/4 deep with clear lacquer finish.

  2. I have been off the scroll saw for approx 12 months with illness & other things. This is my first project since back, Boy was i rusty, it was like learning all over again but i eventually got back into the swing of it again. Thank you Frank for supplying this pattern. This one is for Marg who wanted to see this one cut with red roses,& thanks for the concern shown to me Marg. I still have to make the frame for it Cheers Peter.

Whole lot of ugly going on around these parts, Alabama, about face masks. ***Please don't state your opinion, for or against, on them as this isn't the place and nobody really cares what you or I think about it. I think this Banksy art is a fitting response to the issue so I cut it and am offering it on Facebook to any teacher facing the battle on the front lines.

  4. I don't believe you were out of line. I'm sure everyone will agree that exploring new ways of doing things is always good, and presenting those ideas here is a great way to expose a lot of people who may not otherwise find out about it. Back a few years ago I tried using a 2 x 4 clamped to the table for straight cuts. That didn't work, blade drift made that idea impossible. So don't feel bad about presenting a new idea, it's all good Chris

  6. I am sorry to hear that you and your wife got Covid and your hospital and rehab stay. Hope you get better soon. I got vaccinated to avoid Covid and data shows vaccinated people are significantly less likely to get it and if they do it is much milder. People are free to make their own choices and resultant effects.

  7. Les, thank you for the update. I, sure it’s not easy for you right now. I’m sorry to hear that Covid hit you and your wife so hard. I am glad you were able to get to the hospital and get the care you needed. I pray that your both continue to recover and heal with no lingering issues. I hope you will be able to leave rehab soon. Keep us updated as you feel up to it.

I feel that the only reason they responded because of this forum and the villagers, otherwise you would not heard a peep out of them, thx because I will never order from them, RJ

My take is that there should have been two different shipping charges, one for the clock in the box and one for the pattern in an envelope. The shipping seems to have been combined, so that limited the options.

  10. I use it in thinner with about 15 psi or less. Check how it is working on some paper before spraying on your project. Put it on too heavy and it will run and drip. The old saying about practice makes perfect is true for this also. Tom

    The Goonies

Made from some images I found on Google. My grandson and son-in-law love this movie. It'll be on my shop wall for now but I've started adding names on the back for who gets them when I kick the bucket. Which reminds me. Know what my Grandfather said right before he kicked the bucket? "Watch how far I can kick this bucket!"

  13. I finished the special request Dream Catcher Rose. The rose is made from Purpleheart. The dream catcher is made from Ash and the feathers are made from Maple and Walnut. The design is by Sue Mey and modified with the rose. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using several types of Pegas blades. The finish is MinWax Lacquer Clear Satin.

Here's something about him from Google. Banksy is a street artist whose works have appeared all over the world, and sold for millions at various auctions. Banksy's identity has never been confirmed by the artist, and his work is usually shrouded in mystery. Once artworks appear, Banksy usually lays claim to them via his official Instagram page. His works often focus on topical societal issues, and make strong political statements. As for understanding it, I'm sure it's different for everyone. For me this one speaks of reacting to conflict peacefully. The fact that he is wearing a mask, for me, just made it appropriate for the current controversy.

If you were rusty in the beginning, it must have been turning the switch on for your saw. It sure doesn't show in your work. Beautiful project.

  21. Finding air line adapters to fit air brush hoses can be a challenge locally. Sometimes, places that sell air brushes and supplies may have them, but online is usually best. Look in the air brush section as well as the plumbing sections. Before internet, I had all kinds of trouble finding what I needed. I believe a 1/4 female to 1/8" male adapter is what I ended up with, but don't remember where I found it. They are very hard to find. You may end up with two adapters stacked together to get the size change needed. Good luck. Charley

  35. I second what Melanie said, I almost posted this morning as I seen he wasn't on at all yesterday but when checking he had checked in sometime through the night. Anyway, hope you're feeling better. Take it easy and get plenty of rest. Sending more prayers to you both.

  36. I’m with Dave and Dan. I can cut a straight line good enough for scroll work. If I need a straight outside line I cut it with my table saw. If it’s an inside straight line, I know which scroll saw blade to use to make a straight cut. By the time it takes to set the fence for blade drift, I could be done with the cut free hand.

  37. Now that is a Cool Idea, I have tried that in the past, didn't work out to well.I would really have to rework it, for my table is rounded at the front.

  38. I tried a fence many years ago with marginal results. I prefer to drive the straight line without a fence.

  39. @Rockytime Les, I hope you and your wife are doing better and you are home, out of the hospital, and on the mend. I just checked and it shows you were just on the forum within the past few minutes so I take that as a good sign. I’ve been worried about you with out any updates. Prayers Said for you both. Let us know how you guys are doing when you can.

I too received a reply from Cherry Tree. It appears you didn't give us the complete story of your order. Anyway, here is what they sent me. Cherry Tree Toys Service Dept <service@cherrytreetoys.com> 7:59 AM (4 hours ago) Reply to me Good morning Ray Just wanted to touch base with you on your email to us. We have responded to the complaint. And just so you are aware the plans/ patterns were not stuffed into an envelope they were placed into a small 1st class box. When you choose 1st class shipping choices are limited as to what we can ship in. What he choose to not mention is that he also ordered a clock insert so packaging and shipping changes. We have touched base with Benny. Thank you Tammy

  45. At the Illinois State Fair there is a size limit of 12"wide by 20" high by 8" deep. Depth is relevant and can be more. I say this because last year the Fair was shuttered. I had downloaded a pattern of the Victorian sunburst Clock to enter last year in their Scroll Saw division. That didn't happen so the pattern sat in my shop. But this year the fair was open. Unfortunately this clock pattern was 15" all around leaving me two solutions. Downsize the pattern which means some of the cutouts would be so small they may not work out well. So I opted to size each side of the clock. The result was very different, but turned out somewhat satisfying. The clock was cut out in Dark Walnut with a layer of light pine behind the body facing front. The Actual Sun was cut out of a large block of Hedge Apple plained down to 3/8 width. I have some Hedge Apple Wood left, but have no desire to work with it again unless nothing else will do. It was somewhat sticky and left a yellow residue everywhere, and my shop vac bag both bottom and top had to be washed and bleached to get the stain out. Still, it came out beautiful as the sun. Two years ago they had the fair and I won first place with a Dutch Box, last year the fair was Covid Cancelled, and this year? First place again with this Sunburst Clock. This piece with all its small cut outs will indeed be a monstor dust collector so I will eather need to make a shadow box for it or a cover of some type for over it on the wall. Saws: Jet 22" for the fretwork, and a Porter Cable 18" for some sanding. Blades: various Pegas, Sharktooth 2/0 and FD Superior Puzzle [Spiral blades used for Initial circular cuts] If your going to work with Hedge Apple you will need to use a small blade, slow it down a lot, and be patient Thousands of people go through the buildings during our Fair each year, and this is an opportunity to get more folks interested in Scroll Saw work. I hope I can get the images to load

  46. Remembering my first day in Basic Training with the promise to get my first clothing issue the following day. And then the Sergeant saying, let's see how many of you will walk the walk, so you can have the right to talk the talk. I made this pattern for all of those who have earned that right.

  48. This is project number 1. I went to a course at the Durham Woodworking Club put on by Don Gaudet and we cut this Wolf. I had an old Craftsman single speed with pin blades. Never knew about patterns being available, pin less blades, threading the blade, or why the table tilted. We where using DW788 that did not vibrate like crazy. That was on Saturday. I researched machines and ordered a EX-21 on Tuesday - delivered Friday and as they say the rest is history. Best $4 I ever spent.

  49. Summers spent camping and hiking with friends, way back in the day. Dad was in the Air Force, stationed down in South Georgia (fart, and they smelled it in Florida kinda South). We'd get away to go camping as often as we could, and once we had access to cars, we started driving up to the Appalachians to camp. Mountains will always hold a place in my heart. We lost track of each other after highschool, I went and joined the Navy and had a stroke or something that caused me to volunteer for submarines. Qualified on three of them before getting out in 1998. My Dad, who passed in 2009, was a big fan of Texas history, and grew up on Westerns. He knew every John Wayne and Clint Eastwood western by heart. First time I saw "Outlaw Josey Wales" was sitting on the sofa, watching it with him. Still love that movie.
