I came up with something different the other day after looking on Facebook. It showed tooth brush holders being used for something other than tooth brushes, which started me thinking. I know dangerous, right? Anyway I have 4 blade types that I use a lot and the are stored in round containers sitting flat an a trolley next to my saw, so when I need a blade they have usually rolled around and I have to check most of them to get the right one. So I brought just one holder to see if it worked and it does, very nicely. Here are a couple of photos. I know it may not be ideal for everyone but someone may find it useful. Oh plus you can increase the size of the hole at the top if you wish to hang them on a hook. Marg3 points

The following projects were completed in between my Physical Therapy exercises for my knee after surgery, regular 20 minute ice pack applications to keep the swelling down and a number of other doctor appointments to check out a few other maladies that need to be attended to. Ability to walk and stand for any length of time was severely hampered. Finally getting almost being back to normal. Shop time is improving. So please enjoy and critique as always. The Joker – Like it or hate it! I’m positing this project although I don’t really like the final product. The cut is not bad, but my paint work leaves a lot to be desired. Also, after the project was completed, I didn’t find the subject very interesting or the most pleasant to view. Sometimes I think it is a good idea to post something I’m not happy just to get other’s perspectives. This pattern is another I converted from a free stencil pattern I found on-line. The cut panel is 5/32” thk solid core Maple Ply x11” x14” mounted to a ¼” thk BB Ply backer painted black. All cutting was done with Pegas #2/0 spiral blades. The cut panel was hand painted with Acrylic artist paints. The assembled panel was finished with multiple coats of Clear Gloss Lacquer. Like always, the simple 1 ¾” wide frame is Poplar stained with Minwax Early American and finished with gloss Wipe-On Poly. Buddleia Butterfly Bush - H Donavan I found this beautiful and elegant H Donavan stencil pattern on-line and converted it into a scroll saw pattern. I sized the pattern to fit on a 5/32” thk Maple sold core x 9” x 17” panel that was affixed to a hand painted ¼” thick x 11” x 19” Mahogany Backer. The site where I found the stencil, showed many colored images which I followed somewhat while painting the backer. Once again, I cut this pattern with Pegas #2/0 spiral blades which was perfect for cutting the many very small/thin cut out areas. Again, the simple 1 ¾” wide frame is Poplar stained with Minwax Mission Oak Poly/stain. After taking the picture and looking at the frame under the lights, I see a lot of runs and blemishes I had not noticed. So I’m going to sand and refinish it in the coming days. Flying Eagle – Just for me I have had this Steeve Goode pattern on my to-do list for some time. A number of other member’s hereon, have posted their version and they were all exquisite. I decided to make one for ME and sit it on my desk right next to my “GRUMPY OLD MAN” sign. I used a piece of ¾” Red Oak I purchased in Lowes. As per Steve’s suggestion I made the base ¾” thick, and planed the ¾” down to ½” for the Eagle. Since I was cutting thicker and harder material, I chose to use Pegas #3 MGT R blades for Eagle and #5 MGT R to cut the oval base. Since I have been using mostly spirals of late, it took me a little bit of time to get used to the straight blades again. I refined the oval on the benchtop belt sander and use a ¼” round over bit in my router table to ease the top edge of the base. My version is slightly larger than the original having a wing span of 12". I left the wood natural and just applied multiple coats of clear gloss Lacquer as a finish.2 points

I'm going to cut another one of the spiral bowls that I made a while back but this time I want to cut a wider kerf that the last one but I don't want to use a larger blade as it will give me a rougher cut. So, I dreamed up something that I tried and it seems to work but I thought I'd ask the question, so here goes. I'm going to try putting two brand new blades, Pegas #5 mgt, side by side so as to get the wider kerf but still have the nice smooth finish. I did try it in a piece of scrap wood and it seems to work. Anybody ever tried this and if so, any negative experience? I'm using a lot of tension so as to keep the blades tight together. This pattern was originally designed to be cut on a laser cutter.1 point

Blade Storage

Unfortunately, I live alone.. sooo.. LOL. I have a plastic tube set up I bought, but when I bought my used dewalt, the guy I got it from used small pieces of like 1/2" ID pvc pipe, that he cut to like 5.5" and glued a cap to one end, and the other end it just slips on. Then he had one spring loaded tool holders to keep them mounted on the saw stand. These aren't the exact ones, The ones he used did not have the actual springs.1 point -

You could try super gluing the blade ends together?1 point -
Doesn't a spiral blade make a bigger kerf? It even has more teeth per inch. Wasn't the spiral blade made for making spiral bowls?1 point

I have never tried anything like this. In my opinion I would get concerned about what would happen when the blades start to lose the sharpness. This would add the blades work and heat. I doubt they will expand or stretch the sme and this could cause a problem with the cut. Like I said I never tried this but the ways blades re-act to usage seems to be against this. Should be interesting to see what others say and what the out come of this is. Best of luck Ray. BTW interesting pattern.1 point -
Thank you Grandpa and TDpainter for working on the pattern of my dad. I used both to modify it a little. The patterns you did for me are awesome. This is the finished cut and I made the frame out of cherry. My brothers and sisters really liked it and I made one for my sister Theresa. He and mom were incredible people. Thanks again.1 point

Lumber prices dropping - your area?
new2woodwrk reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
Where I live, it seems like nothing ever goes down except the sun. I did go to Costco yesterday to gas up the car and the price of regular had gone down $.15 a gallon from 2 weeks ago. Still at $3.74/9 though. About a dollar higher than anyplace else. I'll be surprised if wood/lumber goes down significantly. We can sit and watch all the freighters sitting out in the harbor waiting to be off-loaded. It seems like they never move.1 point -

My first Serious Fretwork challenge. I had only been scrolling for a couple of years and it was my first ribbon presented to me by Wes Demarest who was an editor for Creative woodworking and crafts magazine back then. 2006 It was a Jeff Zaffino design. It was also my first homemade frame and attempt at matt cutting. the frame is Cherry. Baltic birch stack cut 3 up.1 point

Nostalgia - Scroll Saw Challenge
OCtoolguy reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
This takes me back about 8 years when I was trying to think what I was going to give to my wife for Valentines day. I was looking through some patterns and found this one a on a CD I had purchased and decided that that my wife might enjoy having this one for her decors. I hit the target with it, as she loved it and has it now in a prominent place in our home to this day. I also had a request for one of these from my grandson, for their wedding gift. They did not need anything for their wedding, in the way of gifts, except to maybe one of grampa's tower clocks. So this clock with always have a special place in my heart. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
