Another rose one , Cut using a free stencil pattern & 2/0 flat blades Helped to fill in time during lockdown, thankfully our area has now been free of the lockdown for the last 2 days so lets hope it stays that way. You must be sick of all the lockdowns where you are Marg. I feel for all our people in Sydney & Melbourne & anywhere for that matter. Cheers Peter.10 points

If this need for a light box is for tracing.... make a wooded frame using 1x2. cut plywood for bottom and paint white. A better bottom would a aluminum 1/16 inch thick but not needed. apply led strips to bottom. Attach 1/4" plexiglas OR glass to top. Led strip choice. all white leds are not same color of white. colors are described as a number with a K. 4000k is a very good white. Also called neutral white. 5000k looks bluish. 3500k looks a bit yellow. The size of glass top might need some middle support. if needed get clear plexiglass 1/4" square pieces from plywood to bottom of glass. polish the support pieces top using 2000 grit. here is an amazon link for cheap led strips. you can also mount leds strips on inside of frame for less glaring indirect light. https://www.amazon.com/Kebinfen-Natural-Non-Waterproof-Flexible-Multifunctional/dp/B06Y67D1JH/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=white+led+light+strips+4000k&qid=1631465394&sr=8-7 if you used clear plexiglass for top and it is too clear then you can lightly sand top with 600 grit to give frosted light dispersing top.2 points

It really isn't difficult, don't let the 'terminology' put you off. I do it all the time and I'm no computer whizz kid. It takes 10 steps (10 clicks of the mouse) it sounds a lot but takes less then 5 minutes. Happy to write these down if anyone is interested.2 points

I’m not sure you read through the entire thread. We did lose Les, but you could be confused if not following the full thread throughout. This thread was originally started by Les, Rockytime, to say he and his wife were dealing with Covid. It progressed to where he was hospitalized, went to rehab, then had to be intubated, and then where he tragically passed. Once he passed, and someone had shared that in this thread,Travis updated the title of the thread to say that we had lost Les. Since then, the posts have been notes mourning the loss of him. One would need to read through the full thread to discover all of this. If you just read the title, and then the first few posts, you probably would be confused easily enough I am sure.2 points

I started this project almost 2 months ago but had to set it aside after a few issues required me to remodel my bathroom and then I had to complete 2 commission projects. This is a Steve Good pattern and is cut with 1/4 Birch using Pegas 2/0 MFG. The back is 1/4 ply. The front is finished with natural stain while the back is finished with dark walnut. It then received several coats of clear gloss. The fine cuts were a little tricky and I had to keep reminding myself to let the blades do the work and not push it.1 point

I'll give you $60. for it... you pay shipping.... !! Just kidding.. I would/could find room... You got a hell of a deal... I am jealous!! Anything I scroll on that size machine, one speed would work fine...1 point

Well for $40 I would have grabbed it and found room in my shop for it.... One speed is fine with me...1 point

Ha, there is a third "light box" that I would not have thought of... Guess we need more info on what @Uncle Ricky needs... Guess a fourth could be a lighted box with a scene in it that you set in a table or something... 3' x 4' would be a big one for that...1 point

10 clicks don't sound bad at all! I would be interested in the steps, but only at your convenience.... no rush for me. Thank you Brenda!1 point

I used to do and still do by accident change the lines to red.. however dummy me bought a laser printer last year that only prints black, My first laser printer.. I do like it, I guess it might save a little money on ink but I'm not quite certain of that.. Not even had it a year and have had to replace the ink a couple months ago. The ink is more $$ than the inkjet I had so I'm not 100% sold just yet. Maybe it was the cheap laser printer I bought. To get a color unit in what I need / use is quite pricey upfront so I was running this cheap one for a year or so to see what I think.. I'll compare my ink cost at the end of the year and see where I'm at with it. As for learning inkscape I used to be the same way and still am with some of the more advanced things we do as pattern makers. This is somewhat how I am with my CNC too.. and the thing is as others have said.. you work your way through it and sort of learn it, but then don't do it again for a month or two and forget everything you went through the first time around..1 point

The frame is Saw Mill Oak that I got from a friend of mine. I had a bunch of it now it's dwindling down. I am going to get some more of it next time I go to visit him.1 point

Something that you might think about adding to your saw!
OCtoolguy reacted to rash_powder for a topic
That looks like a solid start on a circle cutting jig! Similar devices are made for bandsaws to enable near perfect circles to be cut. This may help me with some of the projects I do!1 point -
Hegner Question
OCtoolguy reacted to rash_powder for a topic
1760 rpm's at the motor shaft is what first comes to mind. Any pully's involved may change this faster or slower. If you want variable speeds, a Variable Frequency Drive is needed for the type of motor used; they can be spendy and aren't easy to DIY. One could have a small stack of pulleys to swap in and out to change the speed. Even at a single speed, that $40 saw is a steal!! I wish stuff would pop up like that around here.......1 point -
Great job on all of them. Hope the Flea Market is a success for you!1 point

If I would just use it more often I think that I could figure out how to do just the basic things that I would need to do. I have so many patterns already printed out that I have yet to cut as it stands. I agree with you on paying for a basic class.1 point

I wish I would take the time to learn to do just what you explained. I am not very good with computers. Just the red, narrow outline helps a lot. I have had others here do it for me and I have actually done it myself a time or two accidently. LOL1 point

Friends are family

I know I've been slacking this week.. LOL So here is the latest one. It's 1/4" cherry, and is about 9x10 ish.. Cut with Olson #2/0R blades. It has a ply backer. I was trying to see what color backer I wanted, and I hit a scrap piece with 4 colors.. Showing it to the GF we decided it would be kinda cool to use all 4, so I did the same pattern on the backer as the test.. I think it looks kinda cool. Oh, and it's a Sheila Landry Design pattern.. DUH!! LOL1 point -

As others have said, I too do not post here as much as I should but to have lost a long standing member of the group via this terrible virus is just so sad! Rocky, you will be remembered as one who would help others with scrolling problems and with good advise to go along with the help! Rest in peace. Erv1 point

Late to the party, but I put all my patterns through Inkscape and resize to fit my wood. Turn everything Grey with a red outline that is the width of my blade and bingo. !!1 point

Thanks for all the Wonderful compliments. As for the Flea Market, not much luck there, nobody was in a buying mood. A lot of lookers (for all of us vendors) just no buyers.0 points
