    Hegner Question

now you have given away my reason I drive one and a half hours to visit with you. I had a difficult time trying to get back to Heppner because you had me so tanked up. People aren't going to believe what I tell them about how I have been visiting you for your friendship, now. What do you mean, you think everyone already knows I can't be believed on anything I write here? I thought I had everyone falling for my friendship lines. . Be calling you before too much longer. 5. I made my own pattern of a goat a few years ago. I just took a silhouette and replicated for front and back removing tail and udder. Middle has tail and udder but no horns or legs. The middle also has slot and hole to get coins out. The big problem was cutting the plexi and affixing. It would be much easier with a hardware you get from Paul Meisel. WHY a goat. I made a deal with my grandkids that if they filled the goat we would buy a couple of goats from UNICEF. Actually they had enough in the goat to buy 2 (their parents stuffed it) and so I bought 2 more. Fun to teach them about donating and what a goat means to an African family.

    Ham Radio Sign

Big thanks to @WayneMahler for his help on this pattern. A friend's father's health is declining so they are moving his radio from his barn to his home and wanted a wall sign for his new "Shack". It's about 11" X 13" X 5/8" red oak.

  7. I live near a Condor reserve area. Pinnacles National Park. This is one of the sites where they steal the eggs that the condors lay, so the condors will lay another egg. They hatch and raise the bird in captivity but release them when the are old enough. Humans captured all known California condors in 1966. There was like less than 50 of them. Now there is over 1000 of them. Every one of them is gps tagged. So i decided to make a easy scroll saw outline and inlay the white wood aspen for the under wing. The local vet does work on wildlife and does work on vultures. So I will donate this to him. Behind the wood piece On the wall is the picture I stuck to the wood to be used as pattern. Because the inlay fit flush only from the back, it looks like I turned the head the other way. Size is about 8 inches wing span. Wood is 0.75" thk Poplar for the bird. Aspen 0.5" is white pattern on wing. General finish water based stain brown on poplar then satin coat. Only satin on aspen. Actual wingspan of Condors is about 10.5ft. Lesson learned... 1) poplar needs prestain conditioner. I did this after the inlay was cut. This caused wood swelling and inlay was very tight. Fix: precondition the wood before cutting. Both woods the aspen and poplar. 2) using poplar caused more work due to staining, pre conditioning. the wood slightly bowed after conditioning which caused sanding on flat surface to sand off the stain on edges. Fix.. don't use poplar. Use dark brown wood that stains well.

    need a Lightbox

They have all kinds of LED light panels or light boards on Amazon you might find something you can use there.

All mains-driven lighting flickers. Flicker is more visible in LEDs because they do not have the persistence of other types of lighting. You can mitigate LED flicker by using quality drivers and avoiding dimmable LED drivers that work by pulsing. Notice that battery-powered LEDs do not flicker. Google LED flicker will get you more info on this than you can read.

    need a Lightbox

I knocked one up with frames made from 40 x 19 pine. Covered them with a white plastic from a cheap table cloth and bought a small white blind to use as a back drop. Got three LED Daylight flood lights with clamps on them, One for each side and one for the top. Works a charm.

Very nice, Woodrush. Looks like BB or Maple. Can't really tell if it's ply or solid. Regardless, it came out beautifully!

    need a Lightbox

Doesn't work when mail ordering them because no stores around here have the odd sized one with the right angle plug in part that works in my light fixture.. This is a great idea though.. not sure how the store lighting might also affect the video too.. most all the stores in my area have switched to LED strip lights too so it might give a false reading on the video anyway..

It's delicate. I suggest to cut the big cut last and section it. It's hard to remove the last cut without breaking it

  22. Yes! Either one! MUCH better saw. Dewalt 788 is my personal choice.

  23. Excellent! That's some delicate cutting! And the symmetry on the bottom part is great, looks like a mirror image from one side to the other.

    need a Lightbox

I used to do a lot of scroll sawing live videos using my iPhone as the camera.. The new LED bulbs I put on my magnifier lights make black lines and shadows in my videos and make them basically unviewable.. I don't see this with the naked eye but the camera sure picks up the pulse. I've been going to buy a standard Fluorescent bulb to put into one of my magnifiers so I can get back to doing videos of me sawing.. I'm wondering if this is what you are seeing with the naked eye somewhat.. some of these LED bulbs I do see really fast flickering.. most times I don't notice it.. kind of like when the fluorescents start going bad they sometimes flicker.

  26. I know this is simple, but a Co-worker asked me to cut something for her, for a friends wedding. She sent me a pic of a lotus flower with a symbol in it. TD and Grampa. I showed both to her and she chose TD's. So I cut it from some 1/4" hard maple. I think it's about 8x8 inches in size. I asked the lady what the meaning of the lotus and the symbol was to her, and this is what she told me. Always interesting to learn new stuff. Lotus flower is considered very auspicious in Hindu religion. Lot of our Gods are shown seated on the lotus flower. It also teaches us how it blooms in the muddy waters but the leaves and the flower is always clean and pure. That's how we should stay in this world. Not to get bothered by the ugliness of people and this world. Symbol Om - Universal sound. When you make that sound it generates vibration in our body that purifies our mind. Here's a google explanation: a mystic syllable, considered the most sacred mantra in Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism. It appears at the beginning and end of most Sanskrit recitations, prayers, and texts.

    Friends are family

I think you'll like her stuff.. I had no idea I was going to do it.. I was just trying to have a color pallet to hold up behind it to see what color I liked best.. But now that I've done this, I think I am going to make a set of color sticks with the paints so I can just hold them up behind a project to see what color works with the woods natural color best. Then write on the back, who makes the paint, and what color it is, so I can make sure I buy the right stuff again to match the color stick.

  28. The hardest poart of the painting is the edges...they are one SPTA. When everything is painted and dry, I affix the cut panel to the backer, clamp and dry at leat 4 hours. Often, after unclamping, touch up painting is required, no matter how careful I was. I always seem to find some spot I missed or the worng color became exposed, etc. For something like this plaque and my frames I use poly as a protective coat. In this case 3 coats of clear Gloss Spray Poly. I prefer wipe-on poly for my frames. I do back, dry, flip and do front, dry, second coat, dry, filip, second coat onf back, dry, flip, very light sanding is any needed, third coat, dry. Add hanger on back. Finished. BTW, things do look better in the photo. Close up and personel you can see many flaws.. but as often quoted in NY; "You will never see them from Brooklyn"!!!!

    Rottweiler.

I've seen the pattern, but the gentleman that asked for a copy doesn't belong to this forum so I thought I'd ask first as I have no wish to offend anyone or fall foul of the scrollsaw worlds rules.
