    Christmas Is Coming.

When I was in the business of doing full time craft shows, it always seemed as though I was behind getting things ready for Christmas shows. It might not be too early to get started. I'll be watchin' Santa. Oh, and here is a pattern you might want to try.

    Wedding Rings

Again nothing to brag about as I have made over 40 of these through the years. The big difference, the customer wanted names rather than initials. Special request "Wedding Rings" designer unknown. Made from 1/2" Cherry. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R and #3R MGT blades. The finish is two coats MinnWax Clear Satin Lacquer.

    Country Church

This is a Steve Good pattern titled "Country Church." It is cut on 1/4 Maple using Pegas #2/0 spiral blades. The backing is 1/4 pine painted flat black except for the area of the moon. It was my first attempt at completing a project using nothing but spiral blades and I must admit it took some getting use to. With all the bends and turns in this pattern I would have spent most of my time turning the project on the table. It's finished with natural stain and then received four coats brush on polyurethane with a light sanding between each coat. This was a project my wife plans on gifting to someone. Hope you like it.

    Custom Requests

Sunday mornings are always busy in the shop fulfilling custom orders from my Saturday market... Got another request for a "double" with 2 dogs and for the first time, a request for a super sized single dog. Photos and comparisons.

I understand how you feel but I disagree in this situation. This person asked for help but offered no details. We all tried to get to the crux of his plight but got no additional input until near the end of the conversation when he thanked us and made his exit. I'm sorry but that's not how it should be done. He was on the sidelines at least up to that point. Why not answer us when we were trying to help?

Shame on some of you guys. I ask all who replied to reread your posts. Yes none of us likes someone who asks a question and never responds/follows up but we don't know what is happening in their lives. Maybe their computer crashed or they got sick or had an accident. After some of the comments made, if I was the user, I would never again visit this site. Come on folks. The world is ugly enough without getting ugly to each other on SSV.

  11. Hello - I stumbled across the forum tonight and joined. I have been scrollsawing off and on since the late 80's. I started with a small Craftsman saw and then jumped to the Excalibur 24 inch saw of Sommerville Design in the early part of the 90's. I still have the EX. I have sawn nothing fancy; just puzzles and simple crafts for children/giveaways. Some lettering and signs. Pretty basic items. I hope to try more intricate work in the future and increase my skills.

  13. Greetings to all friends. This design is by Steve Good posted along with a pine tree and a reindeer. I just worked on the Santa Claus making modifications, I made it bigger and taller to work it in 3/4 "wood so that it would be segmented, I hope you like the idea. I have not finished it yet, I am going to put the base of it and leave it like that in a natural color so that the work looks. Thanks in advance for your comments, greetings and a big hug.

  14. Well it works but not as great as I thought it would. I think if one used a “locknut” it’d work much better. The issue I have is the screws want to spin to easily. You’d normally only need to sand them very little and could do it by hand normally. I happen to have bought a box of both thumb screws and set screws, and the ends are not flat so it takes much more sanding then just by hand so I made this up to run on my belt sander. I traced around the nuts and cut it out on the scroll saw. Then used epoxy to glue the nuts into the board ( 1/4” bbply. ) In my case I used 1/4 - 20 nuts. I a storehouse of lock nuts I might try to see if they’ll work. I also have some flat cold rolled stock and a tap that I could go all out on and make a nice one. I’m just playing around with this idea first since most people have scraps of wood and in many cases left over epoxy too. So far just drilling appropriate sized hole in scrap wood and threading the screws into the wood works best so long as you get them started in straight.

  17. Nice pattern, Jim. And no, it's not to early to start looking forward to Christmas. Especially for those who have to plan on sales. I'll probably cut this pattern but it will be a while. I have 3 or 4 other patterns you made on my agenda and your patterns are not completed in just an hour or so. (At least for me.)

  18. Yeah, it's good to be working 3-6 months in advance.. Most people posting patterns post them within a could weeks of the holiday.. most those patterns for me anyway end up being next years cutting because I'm already busy by the time the said patterns show up. But selling online there is more steps.. well maybe not more steps but different steps.. such as photographing the work.. making the listing and describing it well.. It takes search engines up to 6 weeks to crawl the new listing and place it in the search results accordingly so if you make a listing today it could take 6 weeks for that to show up if said customer searches for it.. Anyway, wonderful pattern! thank you for sharing it

    need a Lightbox

Personally, although I had built a lightbox, when my wife bought me a light pad from Amazon with led lights in it, I gave away my home made box. But here is a video of a light box using LED light strips that looks to be a solution fort you building a 3 X 4' light box. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=led+light+table&&view=detail&mid=C57D8046C2C84407F6D8C57D8046C2C84407F6D8&&FORM=VDRVRV

    need a Lightbox

I thought he was looking for a table with lights in it to make it easy to trace / transfer a pattern onto another sheet. That's what I call a light box. They make small ones about 8 1/2 X 11 and all the way up to huge. Then there are shadow boxes, and the night lights with patterns on the outside. Charley

  25. Nothing to brag about, but I have not posted lately. Four Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments finished. The patterns are by Diana Thompson. The birdhouses made from Ash and the little birds from Purpleheart. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #6 Skip blades and #5R MGT blades. Comments welcome.

    King and Queen

This great H. Botas pattern was slightly sized to fit a 13” W x 12” H panel. The cut panel is 5/32” thk. Solid Core ply affixed to a same size 1/4” thk BB ply backer. Both panels were hand painted with Artist Acrylic paints. The cut panel was cut using Pegas #0 Spiral blades. The assembled panel was finished with multiple coats of Delf Clear Gloss Lacquer. The Frame is a simple 1 3/4”wide Poplar, stained with Minwax Early American and protected with multiple coats of Minwax Clear Gloss Wipe-on Poly. Comments and critiques are always welcome.

  31. "Work from the center out" is my best advice when working on delicate patterns. You can't always do this, but keeping the outer areas solid until the end helps with handling and moving the piece with as little damage as possible. But always remember that once the pattern has been removed, only you will see the little errors. Everyone else looks at the whole project at once and never sees the little errors. Charley

  32. Thanks Jim. It is more complete then the one I have. Mine was in color and looked more like a graph then a table.

  35. I tape the large fallouts back in place for stability. Also I keep them in place when sanding the back for fuzzies. My favorite Jim Blume pattern is "The Elder".

  36. Busy, many hole, delicate and intricate patterns is of no concern to me. Usualy mistakes can be hidden and/or fixed in one way or another. It is those patterns with long straight cut lines or patterns with lots of block fonts that I shy away from. I totally agree, a many hole pattern is no differen than a small number of hole pattern. Just cut one hole at a time. I tend to leave the largest cut out areas for last, but that is just me.

  37. I have done these two. The dinosaur was the from Steve Good and just added the filler strip between & cut the middle for the clear part. The fairy is also a Steve Good pattern. The plexi was cut with the pattern so it is one of the layers.

Many small printing shops are now going digital, and no longer use their nice large light tables. If you have the room for a 4' square or larger, you might find a great deal on one if you ask around. Charley

  39. I made my own pattern of a goat a few years ago. I just took a silhouette and replicated for front and back removing tail and udder. Middle has tail and udder but no horns or legs. The middle also has slot and hole to get coins out. The big problem was cutting the plexi and affixing. It would be much easier with a hardware you get from Paul Meisel. WHY a goat. I made a deal with my grandkids that if they filled the goat we would buy a couple of goats from UNICEF. Actually they had enough in the goat to buy 2 (their parents stuffed it) and so I bought 2 more. Fun to teach them about donating and what a goat means to an African family.

Ha, there is a third "light box" that I would not have thought of... Guess we need more info on what @Uncle Ricky needs... Guess a fourth could be a lighted box with a scene in it that you set in a table or something... 3' x 4' would be a big one for that...
