This is my first portrait cut and also my first real effort using spiral blades outside of puzzle veining. Still not sure I am a fan of spirals, maybe it just takes more practice. Cut on my Pegas using #2 pegas spiral and #3 mgt for lettering on 1/8” bbp. The pattern is by Gordon Woodall who posted his cut over a year ago and was kind enough to share the pattern. I should add that I added the Wisconsin to Gordon’s design. I did stack cut this and ended with two copies although the fuzzies were really bad on the top copy. Just need to add a hanger and mount it on the barroom wall. Thanks to my friend @munzieb who gave me a long list of great recommendations on cutting and finishing portraits.5 points -

When I upgraded from a "see if I like the hobby" WEN to a serious scroll saw I knew I was going to transport it to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas for the winters. My choice was a 16" King saw. It's been a great one so far, and packs back in its box very easy. I put it, a bench drill press, the stand partially disassembled, some wood, and a few other items in the front storage.3 points -
I get the rolls at the Dollar Tree.. It's what I've been using for 12 years. I have never cut it down.. I just fold it up into the size I need which gives a bit more padding.3 points

Harbor freight has rolls that are used in tool chest, work’s good, RJ3 points

Well I have been a little busy lately, After I made the 2000 Vette for my Cousin and Popeye. I thought I would use up a lot of scrap I have been piling up, and do some painting. Something I don't do to very often. I have never made these to sell. Gonna try it tomorrow at the Flea Market. I hope they go over we well. Keeping my fingers toes and eyes crossed, well maybe not my eyes I need to drive Wish me Luck, Everyone have a Great Weekend.2 points

Wedding Rings
butch1008 and one other reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
Again nothing to brag about as I have made over 40 of these through the years. The big difference, the customer wanted names rather than initials. Special request "Wedding Rings" designer unknown. Made from 1/2" Cherry. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R and #3R MGT blades. The finish is two coats MinnWax Clear Satin Lacquer.2 points -

Thanks to all for bringing the King to my attention, I would have never given it a thought until now. The 16" looks like it fits the bill. I knew I could find a answer to my quest here, Thanks again to all who chimed in and SSV !! Chris2 points -

Sanding mat?

Columbia Forest Products also has Europly in 1/4″, 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″ and 1″. It's similar to baltic birch. Home Depot only has the 3/4" inch on their web site so its out of stock or they don't sell it. There is also a hardwood plywood called. ApplePly if you can find it.2 points
-
When they first started selling Columbia Forest Products a Home Depot you had to order it at the pro desk and you could only get it in 4x8 foot sheets. I'm going to have to buy some and give it a try now that they are available in smaller pieces.2 points

Baltic Birch Shortage Reason Maybe
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to William Eicehelberger for a topic
I just wet to Paxton Woods and bought 2 5X5 14 BB Ply for $37.08 each that's about $10 more than 2 Mo.. ago that's $1,50 PR Sq., ft.. If it don't go down I will wish I bought more. I do stil have plenty of 1/8 BB so will be ok for a while . I guess that's life behind the saw. IKE2 points -
Might want to consider the vibration aspect from both machines without a stand... I've read on the FB groups of folks talking about the bad vibration the Hegner has if it's not bolted down to a good heavy stand.. I can attest to that with the Hawks as well.. they're terrible if they aren't bolted down good and the stand planted to the level floor good too. However, I have ran my Excalibur and DeWalts just on a bench.. not even clamped down.. just sitting there.. Yes there was vibration but you wouldn't even be able to use a Hawk and from what I've read Hegner too without it clamped at a minimum.. I'm going to assume the Pegas is going to be about the same as the EX and DW since they are basically the same build. Just a thought. If you're looking for a small footprint check out the King 16" saw.. basically the same saws as the EX but smaller IF I was looking for a small footprint saw to haul in my travel trailer.. I'd not even consider anything but a DW, EX, King, or Pegas etc. specifically for that reason. Unless of coarse I had a nice camper / toy hauler where I bolted some equipment down to the floor in the toy hauler area.. Also look at the Jet saw.. LLJohnson has or had when I was there both the 18" and 22" on the showroom floor.. They are bottom feed only saws though if that matters to you. I like the 18" over the 22" as the 18 has more table area in front of the blade..2 points

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. That is what I am looking for. Looks like a trip to both Wal Mart and Dollar tree this Saturday for some shelf liner. Again thank you Mark2 points
-
But, also include the foot print.... Hegner has a smaller footprint than the Pegas and other like saws... Now I say no more... I am a little biased... You won't be sorry with either..2 points

I'm on several laser groups and forums.. never once seen mention of this stuff.. I'll keep quiet on it as those laser boy go through some ply.. Only wood I see mention on those laser sites is BB ply.. and most use the 1/8" .. Those guys buy the stuff by the skid.. I might buy a package of this stuff and try it in my laser.. If it don't work well then I can at least scroll it.2 points

Reading all the great comments I sunk into thinking Harry Potter, the wand chooses the wizard. Does the Scroller Choose the Scroll Saw OR does the Scroll Saw Choose the Scroller. Either way I would if you have a store to go to and try out the saws they have, pick them up and see how the strain is on your back and arms.2 points -

That's them. The vaneer on these panels is a better grade than the common BB Ply. They are intended for Laser an Crcuit cutting and are refered to as Project Panels..2 points

As some of you may know I'm on the hunt for a saw to take with me in my motor home while camping. I have been using a Delta P-20 for close to 20 years now. Love it! But it comes in at 70 pounds. About 10 years ago I picked up a bunch of spare parts so I'm well stocked in that respect. My dilemma is do I get another P-20 for camping to avoid taking the one out of my shop which is in my basement or go with something like a Dewalt 788? My main concern is vibration, my P-20 is rock solid, smooth as silk, never having had any time on anything else (except my starter Ryobi) I'm concerned it won't be a smooth as what I'm used to. I also ask because I have a line on 2 different P-20's that are calling my name. So I'm reaching out to all you SSV folks and asking for your thoughts?1 point -

At this point I looking at the 18" heg and 21" peg. No stand as it will be easier for me to stow when traveling. Just learning as much as I can about both before committing. Either way I'm sure it will be an improvement over my P-20. Been on that for about 20 years now. WOW how time fly's.1 point
