Okay I am pretty proud so far.... Not finished, need to take it back apart, for final sanding, and fitting, then apply a finish.. Finally re-assemble with glue. But I thought I'd show it now... gett'n old, you never know.. The cutting was pretty easy, the getting assembled took as much time as the cutting, well not quite ...But I it took some time. Just one I have wanted to do for some time... I purchased the plans a couple years ago from Pedro in Spain... (Finescrollsaw.com). It is called the Cremona Wall Clock. The clock is 31" tall, 12" wide.14 points

Not much to brag about but,

I am in the middle of a new project I am making for my son for Christmas. I have the white pieces cut and looking for wood for the black ones. I choose to put this photo up to show you how I made the decision to go ahead and try to make this chess set. You can see that one of the Knights is smaller then the other one. I cut it first to see if I could do it with all the turns and in and outs on the different ones. I know that bigger is easier and found I could handle it OK and proceeded. The taller one is the size I am making for him. The pieces were designed by John A. Flaig and are obviously compound cuts. I am using a piece of wood I have had for several years and never got around to using it. Not sure of the tree it came from but I believe it was retrieved from a saw mill that cut the trees for paper making. I have found the project to be easier to cut then I anticipated. The smaller piece is just under 2 inches Dick heppnerguy5 points -
Fianlly able to get a little shop time
WolfmoonCT and 4 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I have been away for 2 months and then finally got home the 2nd of this month and a couple of days later my wife fell and hurt her arm and ribs and I have become the domestic player in the house since. My wife is starting to do much better but still has a way to go. Anyway. I was able to grab some shop time and made this Steve Good pattern for my wife. I needed to do something that was quick and easy but had a lot of interest in it so I showed this one to my wife and she liked it a lot, so here is my finished piece. She choose the colors for the background.5 points -

A phone text commission- 6 horse stall signs for a repeat customer. "Make them anyway (you) I want to!" So far 2 done; will not be very profitable; but, very good feelings about it! The rope and the pegs on Ruby are new material, all of the rest is rescued. some pallet, some woods drops, & some fence scrap. Cedar, pine and a lot of unknown to me. These are the kind of projects that are the most fun.4 points

Back in 2008 we was on a small vacation and the girls wanted to go to the outlet mall.. there was a tool outlet in this mall and they talked me into going. I browsed that store for most of the time those girls shopped. I ran across a refurbished ryobi 13" planer for $100 I couldn't believe my eyes. I asked two different store workers if that was the correct price and both assured me it was. I figured if it lasted the 6 month or so that it was actually warrantied for I'd get my use out of it. Well, I'm still using it.. never did anything to it other than change the knives several times.. Lots of people rave the DeWalt ones.. I had planed to buy a DW once this ryobi stopped.. but that hasn't happen yet. Now days they have the helical head ones and many times I wish I had one that was more like 15" so when the ryobi does die.. I'm not sure I'll go with a DW now... Might depend on my budget at the time the ryobi quits.. I'm not sure where in Michigan you are and I can think of the name of the town where that outlet mall was.. but we was staying in a waterpark hotel just up the road from Bronners Christmas store.. the outlet mall wasn't too far from there.. Probably not even there anymore but might be worth looking.2 points

Just a few months ago I purchased a DeWalt 734 on sale.... I love. I think @OCtoolguy is thinking of the DeWalt 735, a little more expensive and a step up from the 734. I would have bought it if it had been on sale.... But, I know this 734 will serve me well. It is replacing a Delta that I have had for years and worked it hard. So I think the Delta is a great one also.2 points

A few months back I purchased the Craftsman planer from Lowes. $349 if I remember correctly. My 10% military discount wiped out the tax +. It was actually cheaper at Lowes then what I could find on-line and one of the least expensive for a brand name. Dewalts similar unit is over $100 more. It is a 12" planer and about the physically smallest and relativly lighest unit I could find. My shop is small, so I needed the smallest I could find. It works fine foir me as I don't plan to use a lot. It is called a bench top model, however I mounted it permanenly on a little roll around table I made for it, so I can store it out of the way when not using it. HTH2 points

I sand my project wood to 600 grit and then use clear adhesive shelving directly on the wood. I then use Elmer's spray adhesive to attach the pattern. The spray adhesive is repositionable and works well for me.2 points

Baltic Birch Shortage Reason Maybe
OzarkSawdust and one other reacted to FrankEV for a topic
No, it appears to be a dense wood filler of some sort. Almost looks like foam board in color, but much harder, but definately not MDF. The resulting saw dust from cutting is all wood.2 points -
Congrats on the new saw.. You'll like the saw I'm sure.. I agree with Don.. The Pegas chucks are nice, but I'm not sure I'd throw away the original set just to replace with the pegas.. use it as is and then a year or so down the road when you start having issues with blade chucks replace with the Pegas..2 points

Congrats. I am sure it is the same as the original Excalibur series. I have the EX-21 - great saw. I had the original saw 8 years before I put on the Pegas Chuck head. There is a some difference but I found not a lot so I would try it out first.2 points -

You can order any size you want.. If you have a large format printer you can get them in 11 x 17 like I used to do.. However after doing so I rarely use them and now I no longer have the large format printer, LOL.. But yes there is a website where you can order standard sizes or custom made sizes..1 point

Ben, I have to agree with you. I found I was wasting a lot of the label material. I do save the larger pieces and use them as the pattern backing much like the shelf liner.1 point
-
I don't do production cutting, and never have. The last two large projects I have done are clocks. The 8.5 X 11 sticky back sheets would be useless to me. Most of the projects I do are larger. Some of the pieces are 13" wide and 17" long. And I only do one project at a time. I actually find it easier to use my Duck, sticky back shelf liner and attache the pattern to it with 45. Just my opinion.1 point

The result I get with the Craft Repositionable glue which is about £5 in our money suits me. When I've done cutting I just wipe over with White Spirit and the pattern just falls off. I can't use anything 'sticky' like tape as I cannot grip with my fingers.1 point

I have said before. Have TRIED many Methods to Secure the Pattern. Right now and has been Months now I bought via Amazon Betckey sticky back labels. I bought 8.5 X 11inch. Prices might be to high for some, but I am satisfied. Danny :+}1 point

@BadBob Not very often.. I do so much production cutting that I will go into inkscape and layout a full sheet if possible.. for instance if I've got one of those ornament patterns that has only one ornament in the center of the page.. I go into inscape and copy and paste them so there are as many of them on the sheet as possible.. I have a file cabinet that I store excess patterns that aren't needed to cut yet.. however for the most part I just cut a full sheet of them at a time since I typically stock 30 ish of each ornament style anyway. There are instances where some items are too large to make two onto a sheet but small enough that something else could be printed on them.. I end up being wasteful in that case but it's not many of the things I make that fit like that. Animal puzzles come to mind as some that are in that bracket.. but many of the car puzzles are able to layout two of them per sheet.. I feel like at the end of the day.. I'm not wasting too much of the labels considering most things I'm able to combine many to a sheet. Some things if they're close in size to be two on a sheet but just slightly too big, I'll resize them just enough to make it two on a sheet. Anyway.. you kinda get the idea of what I do.. It'd be hard for a non production cutting person to take advantage of these like I do without putting in a lot of effort to layout each time they need to cut.. for me.. I know I'm going to be selling / cutting more so it works quite well for me.1 point

I know this isn't going to help you Scrappile. But I did want to post this for scrollers in Michigan and any others who have access to a Meijers in their area. 3M™ General Purpose Spray Adhesive, 10.25 ounce Net Weight $6.69 Supposedly in stock. https://www.meijer.com/shopping/product/3m-general-purpose-spray-adhesive--10-25-ounce-net-weight/2120096262.html?cmpid=SEM_LIA_Min_Bid:General:all\hardware:GOOGLE&gclid=CjwKCAjwndCKBhAkEiwAgSDKQXoLDkBzOZN6gS_BUfCkqYhl7tpZ6OVd6KyNEO8qs25KMhc1BWoGcRoCIrIQAvD_BwE It also appears that ACE Hardware has it also for $8.59 I stocked up bout 6 months ago with 6 cans. I don't scroll as much as some of you. In fact I'm slowing down because of health reasons. I still have about 4 1/2 cans left1 point

Darn, this made me search via internet at local stores and the one I use 3M 77 "Super" is not available. There is a 3M 77 (not super) available,,, not sure the difference, but I am going to give it a try.. We need some people with boats to run out to all those supposedly tankers sitting off the coast of Calif., waiting to get unloaded, and start picking up supplies for us...1 point

Every so often a friend sends me patterns that he likes and wants me to try. I believe it is an H. Botas pattern as there was a small amount of name visible in the corner of the pattern. This was one that I've been holding for a bit now as some of the lines were so thin I wasn't sure enough of my skill to cut it. But I finally did and I think it turned out fantastic! 1/2 inch birch ply cut with an Olson #5 reverse tooth. 18 inches wide.1 point

Some fun with Van Gogh
Charlie E reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Charlie, You might consider coping some of Van Gogh's famous paintings and sellling them in a garage sale. You might make a fortune, is someone thinks they are getting a genuine painting of his. Just kidding, of course but it was a really cool idea of yours to give your art entwined with Van Gogh's portrait. Nice job. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

OCtoolguy reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
The set screw and thumb screw with swivel does wear out. Sanding does help, but should be replaced after time. I sell them as a set. the thumb screw with swivel is in shipping and should be here this week. The white lever also wears upon time. If if flips up for no reason, time to replace. I posted too quick. The FedEx delivery arrived and now I have 10 in stock. The price is $7.50 per set. the link is: Set screw and Thumb screw with swivel | Pegas scroll saw (artcraftersonline.com)1 point -
