I had looked at Pedro's finescrollsaw.com several times and wanted to try one of his patterns. Purchased one of his patterns called the Wiseman Coffer. (9 euro) It was great working with Pedro and he did give suggestion that I either use European "A3" paper or have it converted but retain the original size. My local UPS store made it happen with 2 sets of 17 x 12 prints. I decided to kick it up a notch by going with Bubinga wood $$$. It requires both 1/8" and 1/4" wood. I had some of the 1/8" but I needed 2 pieces of 8" wide and the 2 sq foot packs were only 5.5" wide. I contacted Richard at Richards Craft wood in Clemmons NC. www.richardscraftwood.com. He was able to mill up the pieces I needed and had them in a few days. Lots of cutting and lots of broken blades (Bubinga is hard !) It took about 3 weeks to finish. I used a Lacquer finish and it really brings out the color of the wood. I did used a temporary light wood backer on the inside to accent the fretwork for the picture but removed it afterwards.11 points

My son's school has "houses" that compete against each other for points throughout the week. His house if the Odwaga Bulls. He asked if he drew a bull could I cut it out. I said sure, thinking he was going to come back with a Chicago bulls logo. Instead he drew up the Lamborghini bull. Well the boy has got style I'd say and a definite knack for reproducing what he sees. He's quite good at free handing pictures of characters. 1/2 in birch ply. #5 Olson reverse tooth. I started this project almost 2 months ago but had to set it aside after a few issues required me to remodel my bathroom and then I had to complete 2 commission projects. This is a Steve Good pattern and is cut with 1/4 Birch using Pegas 2/0 MFG. The back is 1/4 ply. The front is finished with natural stain while the back is finished with dark walnut. It then received several coats of clear gloss. The fine cuts were a little tricky and I had to keep reminding myself to let the blades do the work and not push it.3 points

Hello - I stumbled across the forum tonight and joined. I have been scrollsawing off and on since the late 80's. I started with a small Craftsman saw and then jumped to the Excalibur 24 inch saw of Sommerville Design in the early part of the 90's. I still have the EX. I have sawn nothing fancy; just puzzles and simple crafts for children/giveaways. Some lettering and signs. Pretty basic items. I hope to try more intricate work in the future and increase my skills.2 points

I'm surrounded by thousands of acres of farm field, just the way I like it. Can't see my neighbors.. We have a 35' Class A, up from a 5th wheel, really didn't like hooking and unhooking it. Besides when traveling no pee stops every 30 minutes or so (lol) But it's going to take some time to get the King to where I like it. Chris2 points

It's 80 to 90 degrees in my shop six months or more out of the year. Heat may have been a factor. The shelf liner wasn't on the wood for more than 48 hours.2 points

You could always get a cabin in the middle of nowhere.. instead of being in the crowded city.. I live in the middle of nowhere somewhat.. when it's too quiet I can take a ride into the city and have enough of that after about 1 hour or less, and I'm more than ready to go back home, LOL2 points

Well I have been a little busy lately, After I made the 2000 Vette for my Cousin and Popeye. I thought I would use up a lot of scrap I have been piling up, and do some painting. Something I don't do to very often. I have never made these to sell. Gonna try it tomorrow at the Flea Market. I hope they go over we well. Keeping my fingers toes and eyes crossed, well maybe not my eyes I need to drive Wish me Luck, Everyone have a Great Weekend.1 point

Who could ask for more..I have a nice home and five acres... for sale for $1 million.... okay I will sell for somewhat less... but... I have a RV travel trailer... Pee stops are only as far as the next wide spot I can stop at... run back into the trailer fill a cup,,, pour it out and continue on.... Not really I had some simple surgery that took care of the need so much..1 point

Here is the link on Pedro's site for the Wiseman coffer. The wise men coffer, scroll saw fretwork pattern (finescrollsaw.com) You can see that different types of wood were used. BBPW would definitely be a lot cheaper. If you decide to make this there are a few tips. The sides are intersecting slots and depending on the wood you use, the outer edges can be fragile. I left a 1/4" connector at the top to hold it all together and then cut them when I was ready to assemble. The top can be a little confusing. The drawing calls out a 18 and 25 degree angle. the 18 is for the short sides and since it's 1/8" I used my disc/belt sander with the plate on the disk sander set to the angle. I used my scroll saw set to the 25 on the long pieces. What threw me was I assumed that those pieces would butt up against the top and bottom edges. The side angles didn't line up! Once I looked at other samples I realized that the top of the pieces sit about 1/4" below the top and all the angles lined up. Go figure!1 point

Just a reminder, please not to share patterns you didn't design yourself. If they're from a book, there are copyrights attached to those patterns. Instead, point them in the direction where they can obtain the patterns for themselves. This is also true for patterns from other websites and digital products. Even if they're free patterns, many times the artist wants to control how their hard work is distributed. We want to respect the designer's wishes and support the artists that make these wonderful patterns. There are times when the designer has passed away and the patterns are no longer available for purchase. It may seem like copyrights no longer pertain or we may want to extend their legacy by sharing their work. Unfortunately, copyrights still do persist 70 years beyond the designer's death. The rights are transferred to his/her estate. It is up to their estate as to what they want to do with the designs. Also, please remember that I'm just a solo guy who runs SSV on the side for the scrolling community. I try hard to make this a friendly place with a ton of great information and resources. We have a fostered a group of really great people who want to be helpful. Sometimes we don't think anything of sharing a pattern with a fellow scroller. But please keep this in mind. We can't use SSV as a platform to share patterns that don't belong to us. A single letter from a cranky lawyer could potentially shut down the whole website. So I try to be diligent about protecting copyrighted works. SSV is a big place and I can't see it all. If you see something that doesn't belong, please flag it for review (the 3 dots under the upper right corner). Clayton or I will take a closer look. Thank you for understanding.1 point

Copyright is a serious thing, if you really love what you do, you will stand up to defend your rights. I also had a copyright problem once. You have very good jobs. I tried many times, but apparently it's not mine. But for that I photograph well. The most important thing for me as a photographer is to protect my work from intruders who want to use my work without my agreement. If you, like me, are afraid of such scammers, then I highly recommend you to use this application https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.visualwatermark.watermarkly. Especially if you are putting photos of your work for sale, or just on the Internet. Take care of your safety.1 point -

Okay I am pretty proud so far.... Not finished, need to take it back apart, for final sanding, and fitting, then apply a finish.. Finally re-assemble with glue. But I thought I'd show it now... gett'n old, you never know.. The cutting was pretty easy, the getting assembled took as much time as the cutting, well not quite ...But I it took some time. Just one I have wanted to do for some time... I purchased the plans a couple years ago from Pedro in Spain... (Finescrollsaw.com). It is called the Cremona Wall Clock. The clock is 31" tall, 12" wide.1 point

I don't know what you mean by a sanding mat. Google does not either. If you are refering to a non-slip mat that you lay on your work bench so pieces don't move while sanding, any wood working supply will have them at very exorberant (?) prices. Wallmart and others sell non-slip rubber like waffle type shelf liners for a fraction of the price and they work just as well if not better. Comes in rolls that you can cut to suit. HTH1 point

First of I’d like to thank Travis and Clayton for all they do for the site as I can only imagine the amount of work it takes to keep this going along with all the time out of their own busy scheduals to do so. Second, I guess I learned something new as I did not realize that once an individual has passed and there is no longer a way to get prints that they still fall under copyright guidelines for that far afterwards?? Myself I respect copyrights and the efforts and livelihood for everyone making them and for making plans available for sale for us scrollers as I feel all the plans, I have purchased from various avenues have been more than reasonable for what they are. Just like when someone here makes a piece and all the time and effort it takes to do so.1 point
