unicorn clock
Tomanydogs and 9 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
My grandson spent a couple of weeks visiting us from Oregon. He mentioned that he was wanting somethings for his girlfriend for Christmas and she was a big unicorn person. I had him look through some of my patterns and he came up with the unicorn clock, which it a Steve Good pattern. I printed out the pattern and quickly realized that the one size clock I had in my drawer was too large for the pattern as it was printed. I enlarged it so that the clock with fit. He watched me cut and finish the clock and was able to take it home with him the following day. It is made from a piece of 3/4 inch Poplar I had in my wood supply. He wanted it finished with lemon Oil so he could take it home with him in the morning. I was not particularly excited about the simplicity of the pattern but he was one excited guy when it was finished. He even called it 'perfect'. Who am I to argue with my customers? He said he did not wish to have the base as it was just exactly what he wanted. Dick heppnerguy10 points -
Dog cross
Tomanydogs and 9 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Here is one that a cousin of mine ordered. She lost a dog that she had for 18 years and ask me to make her a cross for his grave marker. I got a reply from her yesterday that it had indeed gotten delivered and she said it was perfect. I won't argue with the buyer. I made this on out of cedar, as it was going outside and cedar seems to be a wood that is used outdoors and I too am happy with it. Dick heppnerguy10 points -

Seasonal Plaque “take two for 2021”
Phantom Scroller and 5 others reacted to FrankEV for a topic
Back in November of 2020, I posted a plaque I designed and cut that I intended to hang on the front of our house. It was a play on Winter Wonderland Plaques but made for Winter in Florida. The post was: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/40845-seasonal-plaque/?tab=comments#comment-444798. There was just one problem, I spelled the Word “Welcome” with two ‘L’s”. So, it never got hung. Now it is almost November 2021, so I decided to remake it for this winter. It is the exact same pattern, with “Welcome” spelled correctly. Only change was a slight increase in size to 12” x18”. Words and trees once again cut from 1/4" Maple solid core Plywood and affixed to a 1/2" sanded plywood backer painted Oaisis Blue. Trees painted with Artist Acrylic paints. Plaque was made weatherproof with multiple coats of spray clear gloss polyurethane. So, like I said in that post, come this Winter solstice I'll swap my "Happy Fall Y'all" plaque for this "Welcome to Our Winter Wonderland" plaque. Plaque 2020 turned into firewood. Plaque 2021 (Pic taken with a better camera and lighting) Hope you enjoy. Comments and critiques are always welcome.6 points -
Hi All. I'm gunna bump this thread just as a reminder about SSV's policy on political commentary and discussion. For the love of all things, please don't. I'm also copy/pasting my follow-up comment that really sums me up: Thanks all. And now back to your regularly scheduled program.4 points

A while back I got into making military emblem plaques for members of my surrounding family that has served... I really enjoyed the little project and all that received them seemed to be really appreciative... I made 4 USMC ones because I wanted to ensure I had enough that I had one for myself... Well that did not work out.... next thing I knew all emblems were gone.. none for Papa.. So,, I made another just for me... Got it done today.. It will go on my wall above my computer desk... I made some enhancement for myself... I increased the size by 20%. The original ones were a little over 7" in diameter,,, mine is 10". I also I increased the size of the "Semper Fidelis" an additional 5% so I could scroll it. On the others I used decal because it was too small for me to scroll. On mine I have about 10 coats of "Gloss" finish on the center part,,, with sanding to 15K grit. between coats... I wanted it to shine. The reat is about 5 coats of simi-gloss. This is the results... First picture is comparison in size, not sure why the Navy one looks so out of round.. it is not... the second is a better picture of mine... I am thinking of making more as time allows, just to give out when the occasion calls for it.. Trust me.. they are well received... I don't think I have made much of anything that seemed to mean so much to the person receiving it....3 points

Spray adhesive 3m 45
Scrappile and 2 others reacted to rash_powder for a topic
Ive been using Loctite General Purpose spray adhesive over the clear shelf paper. Its been working well enough for my needs. All said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was all the same stuff, just in different cans and labels. OEM suppliers and brand names are sneaky that way. y3 points -
SSV's Political Platform
Roberta Moreton and one other reacted to Travis for a topic
We are heading into a political season here in the US. I'm sure it's not surprising to you that politics is a seriously divisive topic. I just want to remind everybody that political discussions and debates are not allowed on SSV. Politics is the quickest way to ruin friendships we've tried so hard to create. If you want to ruin friendships, Facebook is the place you want. If you want to talk about making sawdust, SSV is the place to be. Here are a few things that ARE NOT allowed: Inflammatory patterns/cuttings Political soapboxes discussions Political hot-button topics Political Jokes/Cartoons Political Internet Memes "I can't believe..." discussions. (c'mon...you know it when you see it) Here are a few things that ARE allowed: Respectful cuttings Respectful portraits Respectful patterns (seeing a theme here?) This certainly isn't an exhaustive list, but it gives you an idea. Here are the rules regarding politics and religion found in the User Guidelines: If you have a question regarding the appropriateness of a pattern, cutting, or discussion, let me know. If you see anything that you feel is inappropriate, please flag it and a moderator will take a look. More Scrolling! A political platform I can stand by.2 points -
Hello everyone, so for as far back as I can remember I was never able to cut out jigsaw puzzles with anything smaller than a UR#5 blade. When I went to a UR#3 blade I wasn't able to slide the pieces into each other from the front, it was always from the back. So 2 weekends ago I was frustrated enough that I sat down and started studying things on this. Because I knew I should be able to cut the puzzles with a UR#3 blade with no issues. After about a 1/2 hour of studying and looking at things I finally notice there was a tiny tiny tiny gap between either the top or bottom of the blade an my square I was using. So I started tinkering and got it all sit correctly and am now able to cut the inside puzzles pieces with the UR#3 blade with no issues at all. Next step will be to try and get to a UR#1 blade. I tried it a couple of times but the blades slipped and got all bent up and that was just as the blade was starting to touch the wood. Well, like I said I will try it again a little bit later on and see if I can get it to work. Readers Digest Version: So basically the table wasn't square with the blade. Thanks Jim2 points

Yeah, it's a set screw or hex key.. whatever you want to call it, but you'll need a very small ( what size? I don't know or remember that good, LOL ) allen wrench or hex wrench. Doubt since this is a very old saw and since it's made in the USA that it'd be a metric one.. should be SAE.. The hex screw isn't very big and it's most likely recessed down in that hole a little.. It'll be on there pretty tight too if like mine was. I had to use a pair of pliers to grip the angled end of my wrench and twist with the pliers to get better leverage.. Also you'll want to soak it in some ( I like to use PB Blaster ) penetrating oil.. You'll probably need a pair of pliers once you get the set screw out.. hold the cam with the pliers and try freeing up the lever.. you'll have to work it back and fourth several times probably, then eventually you'll be able to pull the lever out while working it back and fourth.. IF they tell you the kit will work for your saw.. which I'm 99% sure it will.. and you have trouble with that set screw.. You could drill it out since you get a new cam and screw etc with the kit.. I think it even comes with a new lever maybe.. so worst case grind it away, LOL.. Hopefully you'll be able to get it to break loose though.. Gotta remember.. it's probably been on there for many years.. maybe since new..2 points

Looks like I broke my Seyco already
NC Scroller and one other reacted to WolfmoonCT for a topic
Talked to Ray tonight. He gave me a couple things I can look at. He said he will document it, and if it happens again, I can just call back and talk to him or Mike and they can ship me a new speed controller. I can also take the back off the saw arms, and make sure the two cables going to it are not loose. That can cause an issue too.2 points -
Huge Break-Through (For Me) ((Puzzle Related))
Rolf and one other reacted to Roberta Moreton for a topic
I have been cutting some puzzles from 3/4 popular using a #3. The hardest part is going slow while cutting the puzzle ‘keys’. Go slow enough so the bottom of the blade keeps up with the top of the blade. Sometimes I do have to do some sanding, but I’m getting better!2 points -
King 16"
WayneMahler reacted to Hawk for a topic
After my flood incident I finally got things dried out, the foot pedal for the King was the only casualty. Yesterday I finally had a chance to get some time on the King, first thing I noticed this ain't a Delta P-20 (lol). I have it clamped to a tool stand right now. Put on a Flying Dutchman 2/0 blade. I actually snapped a couple when putting tension on them, but once I figured out where I needed to start before adding tension things went better. I still have a vibration issue on the faster speeds but on slower no vibration at all. I really like the table, I keep the P-20 table waxed to help the wood slide around, no need for that with the King so far. I'm wondering if the vibration on the higher speeds would diminish if I mounted it to the stand made for it? All in all once I learn this saw I know I'll be quite happy with it. Chris1 point -
All scroll saws have some degree of vibration. It may be a matter of adjusting the aggression out of the motor. I've got a 16 and a 21 Excalibur and they both have sweet spots at just over 1/2 throttle. A better mounting will definitely help. I have both of my saws mounted on homemade carts that sit on foam shop flooring.1 point

Believe it or not, side by side they look almost identical colorwise. I did not reshoot the 2020 plaque. It is the original picture I posted last year. I now have a much better camera and lighting system that brings out the colors much better.1 point

Semper Fi to Me
RabidAlien reacted to Scrappile for a topic
Ha,,, my story,,,, I am not from a military family. I was the first one to go in.. I knew nothing about it... I lived in a boarding house when in college, there were two other guys living there also.. All they talked about was the Marines,,, everyone in their families were associated with the Marines... Ones sister was in the Marines... Anyway,,, I had no goals in college, so I was sorta flopping around, wondering what the heck I wanted to do.. One day I told the guys, I though I would quit school and go in the service.. Besides we were on our way to war in Cuba, so it looked like on the news... I felt the call..They said what branch are you joining... I said I guess the Marines,,,, They laughed,,, told me there was no way I could make it through the Marine Corps boot camp,, I took it as a dare,,, went the next day and joined..I love the challenge of Boot camp... I loved being in the corp.. I kind of gave me direction and I grew up some. Never been sorry about that decision..1 point -
I'd also like to followup....dealing with political posts, either explicit or subtle jabs, is my LEAST favorite chore in running SSV. If anything, please make my life a little easier and refrain from politics. It will really help my stress levels.1 point
