I get asked about the laser engraver I use so I shot a video today showing it in use.

Steve Goods pattern but different thickness 3/4" marine ply and 1/4" oak with shaped base in ply. Roly

Instead of gluing patterns to the wood? No, haven't tried that. The engraving area is pretty small so wouldn't work for many.

I also had to remove the screws and change up to the other set of holes.. I got frustrated trying to turn the motor with the screw driver.. I keep my table slicker than snot.. I used my mini square at the back side of the blade and turn the motor but my issue is I have my saw raised up in the back and I had a hard time getting the square not to slide around and down to the blade.. SO what I do is.. loosen those screws just barely enough to turn the motor. Turn the saws speed down to the lowest setting.. Run the saw on the slowest speed while turning the motor.. you can clearly see the blade doing the rocking motion.. might help to see it if you have a sheet of paper or something on the other side of the blade to help see it. The blade will kinda be blurred but turning the motor while running you can get it to look less and less or more blurred.. find the spot that looks the least blurred. Probably not the ideal way to get it perfect 90 to the table but it's pretty spot on going at it this way for me..

A while back I got into making military emblem plaques for members of my surrounding family that has served... I really enjoyed the little project and all that received them seemed to be really appreciative... I made 4 USMC ones because I wanted to ensure I had enough that I had one for myself... Well that did not work out.... next thing I knew all emblems were gone.. none for Papa.. So,, I made another just for me... Got it done today.. It will go on my wall above my computer desk... I made some enhancement for myself... I increased the size by 20%. The original ones were a little over 7" in diameter,,, mine is 10". I also I increased the size of the "Semper Fidelis" an additional 5% so I could scroll it. On the others I used decal because it was too small for me to scroll. On mine I have about 10 coats of "Gloss" finish on the center part,,, with sanding to 15K grit. between coats... I wanted it to shine. The reat is about 5 coats of simi-gloss. This is the results... First picture is comparison in size, not sure why the Navy one looks so out of round.. it is not... the second is a better picture of mine... I am thinking of making more as time allows, just to give out when the occasion calls for it.. Trust me.. they are well received... I don't think I have made much of anything that seemed to mean so much to the person receiving it....

After my flood incident I finally got things dried out, the foot pedal for the King was the only casualty. Yesterday I finally had a chance to get some time on the King, first thing I noticed this ain't a Delta P-20 (lol). I have it clamped to a tool stand right now. Put on a Flying Dutchman 2/0 blade. I actually snapped a couple when putting tension on them, but once I figured out where I needed to start before adding tension things went better. I still have a vibration issue on the faster speeds but on slower no vibration at all. I really like the table, I keep the P-20 table waxed to help the wood slide around, no need for that with the King so far. I'm wondering if the vibration on the higher speeds would diminish if I mounted it to the stand made for it? All in all once I learn this saw I know I'll be quite happy with it. Chris

My grandson spent a couple of weeks visiting us from Oregon. He mentioned that he was wanting somethings for his girlfriend for Christmas and she was a big unicorn person. I had him look through some of my patterns and he came up with the unicorn clock, which it a Steve Good pattern. I printed out the pattern and quickly realized that the one size clock I had in my drawer was too large for the pattern as it was printed. I enlarged it so that the clock with fit. He watched me cut and finish the clock and was able to take it home with him the following day. It is made from a piece of 3/4 inch Poplar I had in my wood supply. He wanted it finished with lemon Oil so he could take it home with him in the morning. I was not particularly excited about the simplicity of the pattern but he was one excited guy when it was finished. He even called it 'perfect'. Who am I to argue with my customers? He said he did not wish to have the base as it was just exactly what he wanted. Dick heppnerguy

I got the pattern from Gayle at scroller cafe. I did the cutting, staining and applied the finish and then my wife took over. Here is the result.

What a week! An amazing 2 days at Autumn Topsail with near record sales and 22 custom orders kept me busy this week. Every breed of dog you can imagine... a Basenji? Sure! A Wheaten Terrier? You bet! A Dalmation? But of course! Any breed, any size. Check out the oversized Aussie that was requested. I have so much fun making these things. This is just 1/3 of the custom orders I received and cut this week. Now I have to ship them all out.

What are you sanding? Flat items or ornaments. Intarsia?

Love it when they sell before you're finished. Great job. However, if you took the picture I'd like to see more of the guitar the project is lying on. Looks like a Gibson Les Paul in Sunburst. I've was in bands from age 12 until I finally gave it up around five years ago. Still have a couple high end guitars I'd love to get rid of so I could buy a new scroll saw.

Hello Everybody, Thank you for your answers For Charlie E, fortunatly, I don't need a magnifying glass, (not yet) but this idea is good, I keep it.

Moving it clockwise or counter clock wise will change the angle of the blade when it addresses the wood. This will also change how "aggressive" the cut is. I keep mine at 90 degrees to the table. Seems to work best for my applications.

In addressing the aggression of the motor, I see it can be rotated clockwise and counter clockwise. Which way is less? And how does it affect the cut?

I always glue the pattern to the wood first with Aleens tacky glue. Use a J roller to get rid of any bubbles. I let it sit overnight to make sure the glue is well cured. I then apply two coats of Krylon Triple Thick Glaze. Allow it to cure 24 hours. Then, I cut freehand. You can put a puzzle outline over your pattern like Steve Good does, but I find it unnecessary. Good luck!

Just could not help myself!!!!! Actually cut the Flamingo from 1/4" thk Maple Solid core ply and painted pink.

I think you're headed in the right direction. You're wise to seek advice but the best advice in the world won't replace time spent sawing. Don't know if you're using a magnifying light but it was night and day for me when I got one. I want to upgrade but I've been using a $39.95 Harbor Freight model for several years. I was amazed what a difference actually seeing the line clearly made.

Nice job, especially for a new scroller. I really like the coasters/trivets. That thicker wood can sometimes be trying! But then, thin wood can also be difficult when trying to prevent break out.

Hi Frank, I totally agree with you on the quality of the wood and the paint. it is not very good, I will try to improve it. concerning the coasters or the trivets, I understood the message. But I love theyr Whisky so i don't want to get angry with them. Eric

Currently, there are none to be had anywhere. They are probably sitting on a container ship somewhere.

The Bells are well cut. I see some rough edges that could use some sanding. Also, not sure if the bells were sanded nice and smooth before painting. The paint looks rough unless that is a textured paint. Some additional light sanding and finishing with lacquer or poly might help. If the bells are cut from some big box store thin plywood, you should look into getting some BB Ply on-line. It will finish better. The little circle's are very well cut. You could call them "Coasters" instead of "Trivets".

Lookin good! Much better than my early attempts! Use the applewood circles as coffee coasters!

Thanks Don for your answer, but to use the circles as a trivet, they are too small, the diameter is only 2.165 inch. (5,5cm) Eric.

I find them good for thick wood like compound cuts.

I quit sawing 2 years ago, but learned this: Cut oversize and sand it straight. It will make your life a lot easier.

Greetings to all friends. This design is by Steve Good posted along with a pine tree and a reindeer. I just worked on the Santa Claus making modifications, I made it bigger and taller to work it in 3/4 "wood so that it would be segmented, I hope you like the idea. I have not finished it yet, I am going to put the base of it and leave it like that in a natural color so that the work looks. Thanks in advance for your comments, greetings and a big hug.

Okay, so my next question is about finishing.. Well I guess sanding? Is there a better/other way to do it then by hand? I am not a huge fan of hand sanding anything.. So I thought I would ask.

Blades showed up today, mail was quick as they were saying Saturday by the tracking number.. Nothing to do with PS Wood since they got them mailed out next day.. Not sure if I'll get a chance to try them until next week or not..
