I'm Captain Jack Sparrow. Savvy?
Tomanydogs and 16 others reacted to Charlie E for a topic
Charles Dearing pattern. I added one braid on the left side, his right, and the braids in his beard. I used black canvas with some holes in it as the backer, like the sails on the Black Pearl. As always Charles captured the eyes perfectly. The pattern is free on his site. Cut in 1/2 red oak. About 8" X 10".17 points -
All, I have been fighting some challenges to get out to the shop. Just reached a point in a project that I am thinking adding more will take away from the subject. Please tell me what you think about it. backing: sanded plywood painted patriot blue North America: Walnut Mexico: Purpleheart South America: Yellowheart Africa: Zebrawood Europe: Olivewood Asia: East Indian Rosewood Australia: Red Grandis all dipped with Teak oil. Hope you enjoy this endeavor I tackled. Took me about two months to get to this point. Probably going to have an oak border on it.12 points

Hello everyone, I finally put the scroll saw to bed for a little bit and started organizing the items I'll be taking to the craft show this Saturday. I ended up with 176 puzzles I've made in the last 6 months. Here is the link to the video on YouTube. Inventory Video Thanks for looking. Jim4 points

Farm combine
new2woodwrk and 2 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
My granddaughter ask me if I had a pattern for a Farm Combine. I could not find one. After she was gone for about a month I found one and purchased it. She wanted to give it to a neighbor who had been a big help to her and her husband on their farm, as a thank you gift. I have never enjoyed wooden toys much but I decided to try and make one anyway. It was a little complex to understand the patterns at first and I even glued one of them on backwards and had to cut it off and hopefully it could figure out how to do that without damaging the preexisting vehicle. I got lucky on it and was able to cut another piece and put it on without it being noticeable. the wheels and the front cutting roll and the yellow grain shoot pivots too, to give it some interest. It was a little difficult for me but I am glad it came out as well as it did. I plan on making one for a farm guy who gave me a ride in one as he cut his field when I was in Oregon a few months ago. Now all our company is gone and back in my shop
Tomanydogs and 2 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
The Steve Good Skull pattern is one like I had on display in our house for a Halloween decoration that my granddaughter, who was visiting from Oregon last week, liked so much I just gave it to her. As soon as they left, I went to my shop and made this one to put back into our decorations for Halloween. It is very easy to make and my wife and I both enjoy displaying it. The second piece is a phone amplifier from Steve Good's pattern offers. I have looked at them for a long time, mainly wondering how well they work. I have to say, they do help some but I really thought they would do a little better job then it did. Easy and quick to make, even for a beginner. Dick heppnerguy3 points -

There is no machine required. I have "heat shrink" bags that I put my puzzles into and then turn the hairdryer on. Still need to get proficient at using them because sometimes the bag is too big for the item and there is a lot of "scrunch" so it isn't as smooth as I would like.3 points -
Charles Hand mandala
Old Joe and one other reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Another one from Charles Hand's "Circular Scroll Saw Designs" book (I think that's the name of it). 3/4" whiteboard, used a number of Pegas #3 MG blades and Minwax "Early American" stain. Took a while to cut, due to some office travel and other home projects. Not a difficult cut, just....a lot of cutting.2 points -

Hegners have a good reputation for longevity and performance and have been around for decades. Dirt and dust happens. From the picture I would say definitely worth the drive to Lansing. And I agree with Hawk: If you can't try it and do some cutting (take your own wood), walk away.2 points

Olson Mach Speed blades
Mark SW and one other reacted to barb.j.enders for a topic
I have been making the Steve Good personalized snowman ornaments. Finding them quite tedious to cut. Using 1/8" bbply and a Pegas # 1 mg blade. It is taking about 3/4 of an hour to cut one. Been only able to cut two each session. (Could also be because I have been sick the last week). I was going to try to figure a way to stack cut them. My thought was to cut all the blanks, those being the standard ornament and then match up the name plate areas. I never did get around to doing that with these ornaments. Maybe next year! Regarding how to stack cut, I saw an interesting video on a facebook page that I will have to try. The person taped both sides of the blanks. Sprayed adhesive on the tape an the stuck them together. When the cut was complete, just had to remove the tape and "voila" ! Multiple pieces.2 points -

I suspect that if we all were to write a list of the 10 things we are most grateful for, at least 5 of them on each list would be the same. And there is nothing wrong in that. I had an old man tell me one time to go beyond the typical list of things and find the eleventh thing you are thankful for. Once you begin to go beyond your typical answers, 11 becomes 12 and so on, ever increasing. It is really amazing how many things we have to be thankful for, although it is easier to go along with those who tell you how bad things are. Today as I attempt to consider something to add to my ever increasing list of things to be grateful for, I suppose it might be time to thank all of the folks who have allowed me to be helpful to them in whatever small way it was. Yes, I am thankful to and for them, and that I can still find something purposeful to do in each new day.2 points

It's a new one on me. I have a box fan in my shop, I use the same type of filter that I use in my house AC, Heather. Just a little trimming. It has worked fine so far.1 point

I just wanted to get the message out there before I forgot again.. I discovered the difference a couple months ago.. I intend to look to see if the cans say anything different on them.. since I still have the old cans.. I can also look in my bookkeeping to look up the receipt to see which one I bought last.. Just been busy and don't think of it unless I'm actually using / finishing.. I do my finishing in the morning so I can keep an eye on the drying as sometimes it'll seep out droplets from the wood grain and if I don't catch it it'll dry on it then leave me a clump of shinny clear in one spot, LOL1 point

New Box Fan Filter?
Roberta Moreton reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
I have no answer to your question but I will say this. We have all floor vents in our mobile home for both the heat and a/c and the filter in the furnace is severely lacking in filtration so I bought some filter cloth on Amazon and went to each floor outlet and put some of it in the duct so that some degree of filtration is right at the outlet point. It seems to have helped a lot. This is what I bought.1 point -

Hwy Mike; east central Michigan here (Gladwin). You'll definitely want to upgrade from the Dermel, the Hegner would be an excellent choice if it's in good condition. you'll want to do some test cuts before buying. If the buyer won't left you, walk away. What kind of blades are you using? The 2 most popular are Flying Dutchman and Pegas, I'm currently using both and both are quality blades. The big thing is to find what works for you. This (SSV) is a great resource and tons of great folks here also. Are you ready for winter (lol). Chris1 point

Finishing-- How to.

Ok, thanks. I bought something similar to polish the wheels on our Chrysler 300. Too much work. I never thought about using it on wood. I'd have to buy a new one as mine is full of mag polish.1 point -

Give Thanks - Scroll Saw Challenge
Kris Martinson reacted to preprius for a topic
Well I would like to say Thanks to all in the village that helped me in the last year. I feel I learned a lot you this site. I joined last December, and have experimented with the scroll saw a bit during the weekends. Thanks to @FrankEV for bringing color to the craft of scrollsaw artwork. Thanks @OCtoolguy for advising to upgrade to a Hawk. I almost gave up the hobby. Once I got the Hawk quite a bit LESS frustration occured. He advises many people not just me. Thanks @trailfndr "Lee" for showing me great Intarsia projects. Also @Dave Monk his stuff inpires everyone. @GrampaJim and @White horse @Scrappile all give great tips and super looking projects. All the bowl guys gave me good tips. @Tbow388 he makes them look easy and pretty. @crupiea his detailed lettered plaques are inspiring. Thanks Travis for keeping this village running with latest software. Also because of his inkscape tutorials I can fiddle around in inkscape. Also @Rockytime Les, inspired and advised many many people, including me. But it takes everyone to form a village. Thanks for all contributers even the newbies. The newbies bring new questions and different perspectives to the projects.1 point -
