  1. This is my first project on my new saw, a King 16". It went much easier than I expected and better than the Delta, which was a surprise to me. It's a video game image I put on a basswood blank for my daughter who's an avid gamer. I will be filling it in with tinted epoxy. Chris

    Progress update

I didn't mean to hijack Kevin's topic regarding PS Woods Super Sharp blades but I sort of did. I showed the beginnings of a project and gave the SS blades a try on 3/4" oak. I tried #7's first and then tried the #5's but went back to the 7's. After making the initial framework using the SS blades on my Hegner saw, I had to switch saws to my EX21 because I just felt more comfortable on it. I also switched to Pegas #5 mgt blades. They are still my favorite blades. They performed so well on the 1/2" oak I can't say it enough. I'm not going to change blades in the future. They will remain my "go-to" blades. Anyway, here's where it's at so far. I cut all the 3/16" bands and it's just sitting together right now. Still have to do all the sanding and then the glue-up. This has been a fun project with a lot of head scratching to get all the angles and measurements right. The next one, if I do a next one, will be much easier.

  3. Charles Dearing pattern. I added one braid on the left side, his right, and the braids in his beard. I used black canvas with some holes in it as the backer, like the sails on the Black Pearl. As always Charles captured the eyes perfectly. The pattern is free on his site. Cut in 1/2 red oak. About 8" X 10".

    Making The World

All, I have been fighting some challenges to get out to the shop. Just reached a point in a project that I am thinking adding more will take away from the subject. Please tell me what you think about it. backing: sanded plywood painted patriot blue North America: Walnut Mexico: Purpleheart South America: Yellowheart Africa: Zebrawood Europe: Olivewood Asia: East Indian Rosewood Australia: Red Grandis all dipped with Teak oil. Hope you enjoy this endeavor I tackled. Took me about two months to get to this point. Probably going to have an oak border on it.

  5. The whole reason for buying my laser was that I got a lot of request for personalized ornaments.. as in adding names, dates, company names etc. etc. to existing designs I was selling. I did as much as I could but as everyone knows the more holes the weaker the wood and doing text with scroll saws ( especially very small text ) is somewhat tough to do.. especially for those that want a lot of text added.. Anyway I used to turn away a whole lot of work because of too much text or many various reasons. My original intention was to scroll saw the custom ornaments ahead as blanks and have the added space for laser engraving. This proved to be complicated and almost just as time consuming as scrolling each individual ornament trying to line up the correct spot to engrave etc. I found myself messing up a quite a few ornament blanks thus throwing out a lot of hard work that was otherwise a good hand cut ornament blank. SO I finally just broke down and did away with the handmade ( scroll sawn ) ornament with the custom request.. I make certain my customer knows that I have a machine that makes the ornament from start to finish. Honestly.. I have yet to see a customer that really cared HOW the item was made.. they just see the design / ornament and see a perfect themed gift for that special person they know.. Below is a couple samples of what I make and how I design the custom made spot for the engraved part. I crossed out the name for privacy reasons on the one ornament shown.. The other customer just reached out asking about adding text the the target practice themed ornament.. I made one for her and she liked it so much she asked for several more names etc. for friends.. I can see the personalization of various ornaments being a big hit.. I do not advertise at all about custom laser engraving etc.. but I get a crap load of customer request every year... The time from turning on the laser to a finished engrave and cut out ornament is about 6 minutes. Also adding the ability to laser a photo ornament has been growing very popular. I did a video of one on TikTok that I made for my son as he just got a new to him Cummins Dodge truck.. Wish he would sell one of the other 4 he has, my yard looking like a car lot.. between my to boys cars.. LOL https://www.tiktok.com/@kevskrafts/video/7025232222143778054?lang=en&is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1 After showing this on TikTok I am flooded with request, LOL Anyone here on TikTok?

    New Box Fan Filter?

I don't buy filters for my box fan... I buy furnace filters that happen to be a size to fit right on the front of my 20" x 20" box fan..

    Farm combine

My granddaughter ask me if I had a pattern for a Farm Combine. I could not find one. After she was gone for about a month I found one and purchased it. She wanted to give it to a neighbor who had been a big help to her and her husband on their farm, as a thank you gift. I have never enjoyed wooden toys much but I decided to try and make one anyway. It was a little complex to understand the patterns at first and I even glued one of them on backwards and had to cut it off and hopefully it could figure out how to do that without damaging the preexisting vehicle. I got lucky on it and was able to cut another piece and put it on without it being noticeable. the wheels and the front cutting roll and the yellow grain shoot pivots too, to give it some interest. It was a little difficult for me but I am glad it came out as well as it did. I plan on making one for a farm guy who gave me a ride in one as he cut his field when I was in Oregon a few months ago. Charles Hand mandala

Another one from Charles Hand's "Circular Scroll Saw Designs" book (I think that's the name of it). 3/4" whiteboard, used a number of Pegas #3 MG blades and Minwax "Early American" stain. Took a while to cut, due to some office travel and other home projects. Not a difficult cut, just....a lot of cutting.

    New Saw

My birthday present from the wife, spent the weekend setting it up. Hardest part was putting the stand together. It really does cut sweet! The wife asked if this makes me a big boy now

    New Box Fan Filter?

Must admit, I didn't know you could 'buy' a box filter for dust/sawdust. I've never seen them here in the UK. We have 3 however, Two in Tony's workshop and one in mine. But they were made by Tony and work brilliantly.

  12. I'm all for it, however, do you really want 'more' work on your plate ?

I'm looking to buy a used Pegas. But it is an enigma, If anyone wants to part with theirs, I'm here!

  15. Check the brushes. They are probably worn out and one of them jammed the armature. Not a hard fix if you can find them. Or make some. I'll bet that's what is wrong.

  16. So Rash could cut multiples of specific sizes (lengths) for various word length, but how would you align the lettering after the cutting the first part ?

  17. SE North Carolina here! Get the Hegner if you can. Try it first, it is a much better saw. It takes standard pinless scroll saw blades.

  21. I've put some thought into stack cutting, but the two troubles I keep hitting are aligning the stickers on already cut pieces, and everyone's name is a different length so I wouldn't know if I'm cutting a Karen or a Nicholas. So its one at a time for me. 45 minutes per ornament and I would think I was flying!

    New Box Fan Filter?

I would not buy it because there is no MERV rating and no specs at all. I think you would be better off to buy the filter paper in rolls. I've seen it with ratings up tp MERV 16.

    Farm combine

I wouldn't really know either. I worked on a farm through high school and college and we had a couple of Internationals and a Ford. I probably wouldn't remember how to crank one anymore.

  27. We bought ours 14 years ago. We are on a rural, small, curvy, highway. One acre, double wide with two garages, a single and a half and an extra large double. 3 bed, two bath home. Our first master bath! It’s not mobile, be fancy, it’s MODULAR!
    1 point
  28. We bought ours new 10 years ago and are very happy with everything. But the furnace manufacturer really shorted the filtration on our unit. And there is really no way to add anything better. Ours is also a double wide. 1600 square feet, 3 bdrms 2 bths. The only way we could leave So Cal and then come back. We got lucky and found this park, a mile from the beach and there was the BEST lot in the park sitting vacant. Timing was perfect.

  29. I’m going to look for those! We have the same, double wide.

  30. Yes VOC's ( Volatile organic compounds ) can be different from container size's.. but I was talking about 3 different Watco Danish Oils.. they are different because they all are gallon containers and each has a different VOC.. Yet there is little to no info on the cans or in explaining the different purposes etc. I'm curious what the difference really is.. I can say the newer to me stuff is thicker.. like it has more oil or poly in it? who knows.. they all seem to have the same ingredients as far as I could tell.. though gotta be honest I may have missed something looking at the two different cans because I didn't have my reading glasses and they make the print small.. It's probably the same stuff but different mix ratios?

    New Box Fan Filter?

It's a new one on me. I have a box fan in my shop, I use the same type of filter that I use in my house AC, Heather. Just a little trimming. It has worked fine so far.

  32. I have no answer to your question but I will say this. We have all floor vents in our mobile home for both the heat and a/c and the filter in the furnace is severely lacking in filtration so I bought some filter cloth on Amazon and went to each floor outlet and put some of it in the duct so that some degree of filtration is right at the outlet point. It seems to have helped a lot. This is what I bought.

    Color and old eyes

Lots of good stuff here. The Steve Good video demonstration only works for vector objects (pdf, svg, etc). If you want to convert an image (jpg, bmp, etc.) follow Paul's (Scrappile) instructions. There are other ways but those two will get you where you want to go. The only thing I'd add is to change the thickness of the lines to your preference. I like thin lines because I find it easier to stay truer to the pattern. This is just my preference, though. Good luck!
