Had a really good time at the Craft Show today. There were a lot of people who remembered me and I remembered them. I sold a total of 44 puzzles and have special orders for 6 Dog Leash Holders. Here is a link to the video I took before the show started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECLOgtGGMhs&t=6s Thanks Jim6 points

Request for knitters
Tomanydogs and 2 others reacted to scrollerpete for a topic
We have a knitting club in our community that meats every week to spend time together. I was asked to make a ball of wool holder, they show me a sample and I came up with these. Got the lazy Susan from Lee Valley ( 4” and 3” ) used some wood that I had and then my wife took over the painting. I made two sizes as requested. Will display on Saturday our Craft Day, if I have any left.3 points -

A couple non scrolled simple projects
Tomanydogs and 2 others reacted to WolfmoonCT for a topic
So these are double sided. One side is the snowman, and the other is the scarecrow. Made from box store 1x4x5' boards. the plans call to paint on the eyes and nose and buttons, but I have made 3 of these, and I just cut them from some scrap 1/8" thick ply. The flowers are hot glued on, and the scarves and bandanas are stapled on. Smiles are painted on, then the whole thing got a couple light coats of satin clear spray paint. Plans can be found here: https://www.hgtv.com/lifestyle/holidays/how-to-make-a-reversible-scarecrow-snowman-porch-display3 points -

Farm combine
new2woodwrk and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
My granddaughter ask me if I had a pattern for a Farm Combine. I could not find one. After she was gone for about a month I found one and purchased it. She wanted to give it to a neighbor who had been a big help to her and her husband on their farm, as a thank you gift. I have never enjoyed wooden toys much but I decided to try and make one anyway. It was a little complex to understand the patterns at first and I even glued one of them on backwards and had to cut it off and hopefully it could figure out how to do that without damaging the preexisting vehicle. I got lucky on it and was able to cut another piece and put it on without it being noticeable. the wheels and the front cutting roll and the yellow grain shoot pivots too, to give it some interest. It was a little difficult for me but I am glad it came out as well as it did. I plan on making one for a farm guy who gave me a ride in one as he cut his field when I was in Oregon a few months ago. Sorry your lookers wasn't buyers... I honestly think they are worth well over the $40 price.. but how to convince a potential customer to see that value is something different.. They are beautiful and well crafted. A couple things come to mind, Maybe the show just didn't have the right crowd to see the value in them.. In some weird way.. sometimes the potential customer sees a cheap price which in turn makes them feel as if there is no value in it.. even though they love it.. the price is too cheap so they don't want it.. I have some family and friends that value everything by the price they paid for something.. ( ie have a relative that will buy $600 sun glasses and then almost forget them ( I believe on purpose ) just so he can say loudly in the restaurant oh dang I almost left my $600 glasses on the table or stupid things like "I'm not walking through this sand in my $800 sandals.. ) Sometimes you have to play games with customers.. ie mark them at $80 but you're running a 50% off sale.. that is if you're happy to get the $40 for them. That large of a % off though may make the customer think that you can't sell them so you're desperate to move them.. maybe 20 - 30% is a better option I was just making an example..2 points

Beauty and the horse
RabidAlien and one other reacted to Charlie E for a topic
I like it! And I like @RabidAlien's idea about the rough wood frame. If you can find some that still has the saw mill marks and maybe a rust stained nail hole or two that would look great. I've also used horseshoe nails on a frame for a horse cutting. Of course what looks great to me looks lousy to the next person.2 points -
Got to be very careful what you put into a laser cutter.. toxic fumes are a dangerous thing.. yes you vent it outside but don't always get 100% of it.. also have to be considerant of neighbors if they're close.. I know folks suggest cutting / carving foam with the CNC because it's easier on the carving bits for newbies.. If you don't get the feed and router / spindle speeds set right you can ruin a $50 - 100 bit in like 2 seconds.. learning these machines if you're brand-new to them can be pricey too.. Don't ask how I know, LOL2 points

Either dress up the edges (KYWoodmaster's round-over bit suggestion), or make a thin frame out of some old banged up wood, like from a pallet, and leave the barest overlap on the front of the piece, maybe 1/8".2 points -

After all these years of scrolling one thing I've never done is cut a project on just 1 layer of 1/8" stock. I've always stacked the 1/8th" material to get it to 1/2" or more. With my new saw I'd thought I'd give cutting just 1 layer of 1/8th" a go. You know, it's much more difficult than I would have thought. The biggest issue for me is control of the cut. I've been trying different speeds, different blades and bottom line it's tough to control the cut cutting only 1 layer of 1/8th". I would have never figured that. I plan to keep experimenting with different blades and speeds, a great learning, and frustrating at times, lesson. But I'm confident that when all is said and done cutting 1 layer of 1/8" not the best idea, need to stack the thin stuff for more control. Anyhow, thats my 2 cents... Chris1 point

Good Craft Show Today

Thanks all, Make a frame with old wood, this idea seems well and goes right with the subject. Hello Franck ... The dimensions are Length: 6.69 width 5.51 thickness 0.23 I wouldn't want to pain or stain, I like natural wood in this case.1 point

Christmas sign
FrankEV reacted to WolfmoonCT for a topic
I'll have to look him up.. Someone on here posted him, and you msg him on FB... His name from Paypal was Daniel Zimmerman.. Pretty sure this was the guy. https://www.facebook.com/daniel.zimmerman.9849 I sent him a msg asking if he was the guy I got some from. Waiting to hear back, but he does have some pics on his profile of scroll and wood stuff. I'll update this with if that is the guy. But the pics, and where he lives, and the name all match up from where I got it last time. Last time I got it, it was $64 shipped for i think it was 10 boards that are about 7.5x20 and then hou get like 10 that are 3x20.. something like t hat. all of them are about 5/16" thick and kinda rough planed.. but starting at 80grit, and sanding up, they make some nice stuff. a lot of the boards do have cupping on the bigger ones. the thinner ones have some big time bowing.. like a half inch or more over that 20". but if you are cutting small items, that bow won't be noticeable. I wish I had a panel sander to run them through and get them down to like 5/32 or 1/8".. They would make awesome pieces for ornaments. If I had a helix head on my planer, I coudl do it too. but Not sure I want to tear apart my brand new planer to put one in.. can't really afford it right now either.. so I'm saving them till I can afford a helical head.1 point -

Excellent, Wichita. I sure can't tell which is top or bottom. I have to be careful when cutting two layers of 1/4 inch.1 point

There are jig saw blades that will cut soft material like leather, foam and such. If you have a jig saw that might be an inexpensive option. There is also the SailRite Foam cutter: https://www.sailrite.com/Sailrite-Blade-8-Foam-Cutter-with-Carrying-Case-110V1 point

Dale, I think you can easily charge $40 or more if you apply a finish. The finish will bring out the colors of the woods and enhance the look of the baskets.1 point

Laser & CNC - Special Area
Fab4 reacted to don watson for a topic
Thanks very much for this idea Travis. I have both a laser engraving machine and a CNC milling/router machine and I would like a little corner for them as it does bring up a lot of negativity from some people on the SSV site. I know, I have experienced it. This is SCROLL SAW VILLAGE trusted site and should remain so but I think a small corner somewhere would be good for people who have these machines. I would relish the chance of learning from others what I need to know about running these machines effectively as I find myself stuck at times and with the different models of machines out there bound to be a few differing ways of working with each of them although I think a common thread may be the language that the operating code is written in (GRBL GCode ??) It seems like you are adding another burden to your workload and I hope it will not be too much to keep a rein on it as well, but if you wish I would certainly like a separate area where we could ask about projects etc. take care and stay safe Don W1 point -

WayneMahler reacted to Dak0ta52 for a topic
Ditto on what Ray said. I had one quit and contacted Dremel. They actually sent me a set for my Dremel model free of charge. I say I had one... that is until the wife claimed it as a nail file for the dogs. Bought me a new on and let her keep that one.1 point -
Check the brushes. They are probably worn out and one of them jammed the armature. Not a hard fix if you can find them. Or make some. I'll bet that's what is wrong.1 point

We knock the old fashion box fan with a filter taped on the front of it, I did that ( my mobile k is simalar to that ) sometimes something that works and cheap is the ticket -by the way sometimes your shop vac can clean them and you don't need to buy a new filter -those 3m performance filters are allot better than your standard dollar furnace filters .1 point
