I ordered a BM-20 Hawk October 1st and I received it Friday November 12th. I was told it would be 6 to 8 weeks and it was. It was very well packaged. Setup only took about an 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I made a few cuts and was pleasantly surprised by the smooth cuts, and low vibration. I still need to learn all the new adjustments to fine tune.4 points

It was nothing you said Ray, but I think I ruffled a few feathers with my answer. But to be fair, I stand by my post. Which was not political in anyway shape or form as I know zilch about US governance, so wouldn't comment on that. Just a shame I didn't keep a copy as I couldn't write it again verbatim.4 points

Another Steve Good Pattern
namunolie reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I was looking for a project to cut for one of my granddaughter when I came across this Steve Good pattern and showed it to my wife. She said that is a great pattern for the granddaughter I cut this one for. I started to cut it out of Red Cedar but the sawdust would not blow from the pattern and continued to build up in front of the blade. I was using a #1 Pegas blade and no.... I was not put on upside down. It became so much of a problem, I quit cutting it and made if from BB Ply instead. I still liked it well enough but I was a little disappointed by not being able to cut it from the wood I had chosen for it. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
I'm sure this has been covered before but my search didn't turn anything relevant to "wood retailers". Any suggestions with regards to purchasing wood? I've seen people question quality of big box retailers which is where I had been going. Is there a better source I'm missing?? I'm in S.E. Michigan if that helps. Thanks for your suggestions in advance,1 point

Well I missed it too. I vote, that's all I have to do with the subject.1 point -
I'm not sure where you are located but here on the West coast, I buy from Cherokee Wood Products. They have a guy, Chris, who is in charge of their online scroll saw buyers. There is a special area on their website that has all of the woods that they sell and how much for each. They sell it by the foot and will plane it to the thickness that most of us use. Very reasonable. Otherwise, most everybody either uses eBay, Amazon or Ocooch Woods.1 point

Hi my name is Louie and I’ve been an avid scroller for a few years now. I’m from Colorado . I have visited this site a few times but this is probley the first time i really looked into all the forums and tips and all of the art projects that people post. Wow i am so impressed with the skill everyone has from novice to expert. I’m hoping to make more time to hang out here more and i will post some of my artwork as well!1 point

Congrats on your new saw. They are great saws but do require maintenance. If you are not aware of their problems, this is the right place for advice. I strongly recommend that you go on youtube and search out Bob Brokaw's excellent videos on servicing the saw's many bearings. It's an afternoons job but well worth the time and effort. Many of these saws left the factory with little to no lubrication so they wear very quickly.1 point

cool idea. keeping your work and your memory alive for years to come. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
I have a viable plan for the step-daughters ornaments. A family friend, about her age, has agreed to store and distribute ornaments after I pass. The plan is to have the friend send the yearly ornament 2 weeks before Christmas. Kind of the gift that keeps on giving.1 point

I'm not sure the wood, one of them is cherry, but the rest are scraps I've saved. I have some black walnut that I'm going to cut (I'll post it when I do. So far it's just BLO for a finish.1 point

I enjoyed attending the celebration today with 2 of my grandchildren. I gave the teacher crosses to each of the girls to give to their teachers and both teachers looked me up and thanked me for them and I also got a hug from both of them. It was a very enjoyable time for me. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

Hegners have a good reputation for longevity and performance and have been around for decades. Dirt and dust happens. From the picture I would say definitely worth the drive to Lansing. And I agree with Hawk: If you can't try it and do some cutting (take your own wood), walk away.1 point
-
Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions. I've just picked up some Olsen blades for the Dremel - only 3" blades that I could find locally. The guy with the Hegner is over by Lansing. I haven't spoken with him yet - was just waiting to hear any feedback from the Forum on my choices. I've attached the picture of the guy's CL listing. It appears to be a little dirty but from the picture it looks like it is all there. I would plan on checking it out to see how it works - he states it is in excellent running condition. He's second owner - he got it in an estate sale from the original owner. I'm ready for winter - got two cords of wood on Monday and had our first fire tonight!1 point

Hwy Mike; east central Michigan here (Gladwin). You'll definitely want to upgrade from the Dermel, the Hegner would be an excellent choice if it's in good condition. you'll want to do some test cuts before buying. If the buyer won't left you, walk away. What kind of blades are you using? The 2 most popular are Flying Dutchman and Pegas, I'm currently using both and both are quality blades. The big thing is to find what works for you. This (SSV) is a great resource and tons of great folks here also. Are you ready for winter (lol). Chris1 point

Welcome Mike from SE Arizona. The Dremel is old so the problems are more probably the machine rather than you. I see nothing wrong with getting a WEN3921-16 IF you are unsure about whether you want to pursue this hobby/stress reliever or not. That model supposedly takes both pin-less and pinned blades. And it is not a major investment. But according to Wen, it's length of stroke is a tad over a half inch so it will be a little slow. If on the other hand, you are showing a modicum of enthusiasm, the Hegner might be a better investment in the long term. Worth checking it out in person and 'kicking the tires' if the current owner allows it.1 point

I suspect that if we all were to write a list of the 10 things we are most grateful for, at least 5 of them on each list would be the same. And there is nothing wrong in that. I had an old man tell me one time to go beyond the typical list of things and find the eleventh thing you are thankful for. Once you begin to go beyond your typical answers, 11 becomes 12 and so on, ever increasing. It is really amazing how many things we have to be thankful for, although it is easier to go along with those who tell you how bad things are. Today as I attempt to consider something to add to my ever increasing list of things to be grateful for, I suppose it might be time to thank all of the folks who have allowed me to be helpful to them in whatever small way it was. Yes, I am thankful to and for them, and that I can still find something purposeful to do in each new day.1 point
