  1. Steve posted these patterns a couple weeks ago. Finally sat down at the saw yesterday and cut all 10 and then some. As you can see I stack cut these so I now have 30+ ornaments to paint and assemble. They were cut on my Pegas using mgt #3. I did cut one full size snowflake for the window, I duplicated the top layer so it is two sided. The other 10 I reduced to 50% so they are better sized for the tree. My wife wants a full size set for the house windows now so I guess I better get back to the saw.

  3. My brother owns a lumber mill and I sometimes get a few boards here and there that they are going to toss out. Monday he called me and said he had a couple Walnut boards that I could have if I wanted them. If not he was going to cut them up and burn them in his wood stove. Here is the result.. all rough cut, most of it 6.5 foot long.. a few pieces are shorter because I cut them down so I could shut my tailgate on the truck.

  4. I decided to make another farm combine for a farming friend but I liked the natural wood color and decided not to paint it. If you have seen some of my other posts you already know that I am not very satisfied when i do try to paint a project. I left all the finish off this one so the recipient can choose to paint it, if they wish to do so. In the front view of this one, it appears that the turning cutters, ( for lack of real knowledge on farm equipment ), are bent on the right side as you look at it, but in fact they are straight. I am not sure why the photograph makes it look that way so I thought I would mention that before someone else does. I ended up cutter three sets of the circle pieces in the front of the machine because the first two sets fit very tightly and I had breakage. Finally I gave up on the pieces being made of cedar and instead decided to use BB Ply for that part. I hope I am learning something from this endeavor.

    60th anniversary

I was trying to fine something to make for my wife, to give her tomorrow on our 60th anniversary. I came up with the idea of making her a couple of intaria pieces that would sort of picture our 60 years of marriage. These JGR patterns seem to be just the thing. So we have one plaque signifying our wedding and our start on our new journey in life, followed by the one of two elderly people, still holding hands and in love with each other, (as we are today). I believe the idea is really good and per-tenant. Problem being they are too big to really find a good place to display them. Perhaps I can cut the backer board out, leaving just the figures and that might work better. But for now, she will receive tomorrow what I am posting today Dick heppnerguy

  6. Just finished up this Christmas Train that is Steve Goods pattern. This is cut on 3/4" Poplar and I printed the pattern out on 8.5x14 paper and blew the image up to130%. Next one I'm thinking I might use some Walnut and put a clear coat on it. Thanks for looking Jim

    New to me saw

Meany thanks for the jump start on successful scroll sawing. Kevin I had time to cut a piece of scrap and the saw will make a project easier and a lot more fun. I could tell right away the difference in power of the motor!

  12. Howdy all. I know there's a few of us here that play with lasers, CNC, cutters like the Silhouette Cameo, 3d printers, etc. I was thinking of making a small section for those of us that want to chat about stuff like that, share pics, files, etc. It'll be tucked into a small corner of SSV, separate from the scroll saw stuff, but have a lot of the same cool functionality. I wanted to gauge interest. Post below if this is something you'd like.

    Trivet

I designed and cut this trivet for my wife's aunt who has cancer that will likely be terminal. I love this comforting verse from an old hymn, He Leadeth Me. I've probably sung it 1,000 times but only a couple of years ago recognized that this verse is referring to the 23rd Psalm. It's about 8" and cut in red oak.

    SSV's Political Platform

Ever thought of sitting down and writing all your 'gripes' on a piece of paper? Then you could just screw it up with as much vehemence as you wish without cluttering the 'ether' or offending anyone at all, bin it or burn it and still feel better. !

  19. Clearly the definition of a "couple" is different in Michigan then it is here in East TN. Thank you for saving all that beautiful wood from the wood stove. Feel free to stop and drop off any excess you have next time you are traveling through this way on your way to the beach. Rough cut is no issue, DH has a planer, a jointer, and a large sander so I can make it work.

    Politics & SSV

I don't like to see politics on this site and I always stay mostly out of conversation of politic online.. I do enjoy reading others opinions on polatics and world news and what have you but I do typically keep my opinions to myself.. Boy there sure gets to be some heated topics that goes into a grade school kids name calling etc. etc. We sure don't want that here and I totally respect the policies we have in place here.

I also agree with Travis and what he says. Politics and religion are beliefs people have and although I appreciate that someone has a different view point on these subjects then I may have, I do not like someone trying to run their ideas on this subject down my throat. Everyone is free to believe what they wish and they should be willing to talk about why they believe something to be true , even if it does not agree with my view point, but only for discussion in a friendly way and not to try and prove another persons view to be wrong. This is NOT a place they need to do this but in a private discussion, in person, should one wish to discus their view points. Dick heppnerguy

  36. I purchased the 2021 pattern book not to make ornaments or patterns to sell but because I loved the designs. A friend collects angels so this was perfect. I have cut a couple so far and these are really easy as not too many holes. The angel below uses a different font a getting 9 character name in was bit of a challenge. I added the year for fun. Thank you to Travis for these.

    Making The World

I had someone request this exact same kind of a map but I never could figure out how to go about making the pattern. Now when i look at your project is brings me to a 'dah' moment. Not that hard to figure out how to do it once I see your piece. Again, great job Dick heppnerguy

It was nothing you said Ray, but I think I ruffled a few feathers with my answer. But to be fair, I stand by my post. Which was not political in anyway shape or form as I know zilch about US governance, so wouldn't comment on that. Just a shame I didn't keep a copy as I couldn't write it again verbatim.

    New to me saw

I don't know how close to Michigan you are but I have a older RBI Hawk 220VS I'd let go at a reasonable price. I'd also consider selling my Excalibur EX-21.. it is the China made one but I rebuilt it last year with the original EX parts from Ray at Seyco.com.. and it has the Pegas blade holders on it. The Hawk I got to have $250 firm on price for. It has about 100 hours run time since I went through it and did many upgrades to it.. The Excalibur I have $300 in new parts last year and has about 160 hours on it since going through that saw.. I'd have to have $350 for it with stand or $300 without. Also has the Seyco dust collection set up on it that won't go with it unless you willing to go $425 for everything. I also have a Hawk 226VS with a lot of extras.. Not really wanting to sell this one BUT.. would let it go for $600 I'm not in any means needing to sell these saws and have been back and forth on even selling any of them.. Only reason I'd sell the older hawk is.. I have my eye on a Hegner that I'd like to get and try.. Never had a Hegner and just wanted to try one.. and since I have 3 Hawks and a Excalibur I really don't need another saw, LOL If I was to sell both a Hawk and the EX then I'd order a new Pegas.. another saw I'd like to get someday.. Heck maybe you're interested in the Hegner I've had my eye on.. Here is a link.. https://lansing.craigslist.org/tls/d/williamston-hegner-multimax-18-scroll/7393302219.html This guy has had this on Craiglist on and off for about 5 months.. started out at around $600 and now he's down to $275.. I'm thinking $200 cash offer since it's been listed now for about a month at $275.. I don't need it so go get it if you want it.. I find deals now and then so it's not the last Hegner on earth.. If you're close to Michigan.. there you are.. 4 different " quality " saws to choose from.. I know nothing about that Hegner.. have not seen it in person or even talked with the guy on it yet.. so it may need work.. I can say my saws all work and pretty much been gone through and worn parts replace greased up and ready to make sawdust..

  44. Oh no that is sad news, condolences to his wife and family. I always liked reading his post as he wrote in a redneck / country boy kinda way. Have missed him the last couple years he as hadn't posted much, but believe he went back to work as a OTR truck driver. It's sad that this Covid has taken so many lives, Also saddening is many folks don't just don't take it seriously..

  48. Hi All. I'm gunna bump this thread just as a reminder about SSV's policy on political commentary and discussion. For the love of all things, please don't. I'm also copy/pasting my follow-up comment that really sums me up: Thanks all. And now back to your regularly scheduled program.

  49. Good enough for me. I just keep on scrolling if I see something I don't agree with, Just like I wouldn't stop the car and complain or spray paint a reply on a bill board I never agreed with, just keep on keeping on. People are going to have a hard job changing my mind about a lot of things and I reckon I would have the same problem with them, so I'd rather have a beer then stress about immovable objects.
