  1. Just finished 15 of these snowflakes. Kevin did most of the work for me. I had to sand them and paint them and glue the backe on. They came out good. Also finished these word art plaques that Don was good enough to make the patterns for me. Thanks again Don.

    Red Solo Cup

Fun, useful project. I don't know if this is practiced world wide but here in Alabama it's common at a gathering to put your name on a plastic cup with a Sharpie so you can keep up with which cup is yours. Toby Keith has a song about it, "Red Solo Cup." My family usually makes up names. We're headed on a family vacation next week and my wife requested I make one of these. I added the text which is a line from the song. We don't usually have anything stronger than Dr. Pepper in ours.

    60th anniversary

I was trying to fine something to make for my wife, to give her tomorrow on our 60th anniversary. I came up with the idea of making her a couple of intaria pieces that would sort of picture our 60 years of marriage. These JGR patterns seem to be just the thing. So we have one plaque signifying our wedding and our start on our new journey in life, followed by the one of two elderly people, still holding hands and in love with each other, (as we are today). I believe the idea is really good and per-tenant. Problem being they are too big to really find a good place to display them. Perhaps I can cut the backer board out, leaving just the figures and that might work better. But for now, she will receive tomorrow what I am posting today Dick heppnerguy

  5. Here it is - another puzzle from Steve Good's patterns. A few minor mishaps but overall I think it looks pretty good for my second attempt at scrolling. Painted this one rather than staining it. FIXED!!

    New Hawk has arrived

Congratulations on the new saw! Ray The only thing you need to do with the Hawk legs is kick them out until the saw settles in. . I am so glad they went back to the billet aluminum machined parts. I love my G4 but was never crazy about the rough cast steel frame.

    Excalibur

I'd suggest buying a set of Pegas blade Chucks.. They helped me a lot. I was the same way when I first got my Excalibur.. I couldn't believe all the folks that loved these saws.. Then I learned I had bought the China made saw.. that saw is far from the quality of the original older Excalibur's.. SO if you cannot return it to where you got it at and get a Pegas saw or a King.. at least get those Pegas upgraded blade chucks. https://www.artcraftersonline.com/product-page/pegas-chuck-head-set-for-popular-saws

  12. I've been picking away at it. Things are mostly there. The new area has a gallery, but I did something to the gallery button a few years ago, and I can't remember what I done to undo it....LOL. So I'm trying to figure that out.

  14. I have used Olson blades for a long time. I did take a hiatus when I was married. When I got divorced, I started cutting again, and I had like 4 doz blades left over. They all cut great. I new I needed more, and ordered 18 doz from Wooden Teddy Bear. So far, I have gone through about 3 doz, and I am sooo disappointed in them now. I would say 3 out of every 5 blades cut like a dull used blade. Hard to push, cutting on an angle.. I had some blades I got back in like 2011 when I bought my old used Dewalt. Most of them were FD ones. I never used any, because I was comparing them to the Olson #2/0R blades. I looked them up today, and most of them are like #5, #7 of various styles of FD. I did find some FD SP ones.. it was marked 31TPI.. I thought I would give one a try for giggles.. HOLY CRAP it cut fast.. Scary fast compared to the Olson #2/0R. I looked it up and found those are the Superior Puzzle blades. SO I ordered 3 new FD blades to try out. I got one of each.. Penguin Silver Reverse #2/0, Scroll Reverse #2/0, and Ultra Reverse #2/0. I did send an email to Olson, asking if they had a bad batch or what, or if that was just their quality now. I'll see what they say. But I'll also see how these FD ones go. The worse part is that I'm trying to get a large sectional done before Dec 4th, and if I have to wait for blades, I may not make it for the craft show. I do not want to use any more of the Olson ones, incase they come back saying they will replace the blades to keep my happy.

    My New work

I have been busy cutting and painting, I cut a good few days of painting out. Then I spend a few days of painting. If that makes since, I have a few more trucks to cut and paint then I want to start on the Cars from the CARS movie. I believe it was Scrappile who wanted to see a 66 Ford. I hope I did it justice.

  17. I think if you got your EX-21 at Home Depot it was made in China. For what I have read the quality control is not the same as the machines coming from Taiwan. The King is made to the same specs in Taiwan and gets good reviews. If you are close to the border it is the same price in Canada and the USA and get your 20% discount on the $ I have had my EX-21 for over 10 years and love it.

  18. Me thinks you are "over-thinking" the issue. I just tension til it feels right. Pluck the blade and it's either "plunk" or "pling".

  19. I watched a long (2+ hours) youtube step-by-step marquetry demo (in Spanish). In the comments section the author says that he controls the speed of his scroll saw with a pedal - "like a sewing machine", he adds. (The machine is a Colombo-Filippetti - an expensive, Italian-made, industrial scroll saw.) I do not know of any machine in the US market whose speed can be controlled with a pedal. Though this should be easily possible with machines that use a DC motor. Do you know of an after-market way to control a scroll saw's speed with a pedal? Thanks, xocd

    Red Solo Cup

It is 2 short bread cookies with marshmallow cream between and covered in a glaze frosting. Available in Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana and an occasional off the wall special edition flavor. Very big in the southern USA. Not one of my favorites but well liked by most.

  27. In the comments the author writes: "La maquina que uso yo es electrica y es italiana la casa se llama colombo filipeti Son caras" (The machine that I use is electric and Italian. The brand is colombo filipeti (sic). They are expensive.) He does have other videos where he uses a treadle-powered scroll saw. xocd

    one from Tombstone

A couple of weeks ago I took one of my grandsons to Tombstone, Arizona. He was very excited about the trip and had a real love for the movie "Tombstone" and very familiar with what we were about to see. He told me on the way home that he really wanted me to make him something as a reminder of our trip there, for Christmas. This is what I came up with for him and I am pretty sure he will love it when he opens it. Dick heppnerguy

  45. I can not imagine the Hegner would last very long on a sales post..I have never owned one but I know some people on here that do and they are excited about their Hegner. One of the most reliable saws on the market, I have been told. Welcome to The Village. This is a great place to hang as there are a lot of very friendly, talented and happy to share and help others. I Live in Southern Arizona and I hope you will log on often. Post your work and comment on others when you see their work. This is a great place to learn and to get free scroll saw patterns to download. Dick heppnerguy

    SSV's Political Platform

Coffee House is a place for off topic conversations, but the same forum rules still apply (those are found here). Even though it's off topic, politics and religion are not allowed. A conversation may feel lighthearted to the original poster, but these subjects will spin wildly out of control. Most of us identify with with a certain belief system that is core to our identity. When we attack or poke fun at one of those belief systems, it's easy to take it as a personal attack. So that is why we have that long-standing rule. I want to focus on what brings us together, not what tears us apart. I have several posts within this thread that clarifies a lot of stuff, so that might be helpful for new folks. I hope that helps.

  48. Okay, so I've seen some questionable post here and there.. a couple times I was going to report it but I couldn't figure out how to report it.. I just came here to ask how to and then while reading the topic I found it. I've clicked on all the things at the bottom of a posting next to the Quote button but couldn't find it.. Now I see it at the top right of the post.. it's kinda grayed out until the mouse is hovered over it.. Now I Know.. and hopefully now that I pointed that out.. maybe someone else will benefit by knowing where it's at.. Thanks Travis and Clayton for keeping the site cleaned up..

    SSV's Political Platform

Hi all. Just a reminder political discussions are not allowed on SSV. Please read the first post of this thread as it spells it out pretty clearly. We try hard to keep things on topic and free of political and religious discussions. However, SSV is a big place and I'm not able to read everything. So if you see something that needs attention, please report it so I or Clayton can review it. It's a much better solution than getting worked up, or rage quitting SSV. Thanks All!
