  1. Needed a break from cutting puzzles and with icing conditions outside decided to cut another Americana Series from Jim Blume. I cut #1 yesturday. I had cut #2 last week. First time using sprial blades. Thanks Jim Blume for great patterns. Going to do more of the series. I have #12 ready to start on. Now to make frames.

  2. I found a new website called Cute Cutter. It's primarily for making patterns for vinyl cutting machines but I've had fun playing around with it and made this simple pattern of my grandson. Although it's a free sight you can donate if you want to. Well worth it.

    A Dog and his boy

Its been awhile since I have posted any of my works but just wanted to put this one on! This is a Jim Blume pattern and it has been a few years since I have cut any portrait style with just using spiral blades, fd 2/0, 3/0! The cutting is 11"x 14" using 1/8" bb mounted on 1/2" mdf. I cut 2 and they will be given to 2 different animal rescues. Erv

  5. Save them and when you get famous for one of your scroll sawn art pieces the value of that wire might be outstandingly crazy.. don't forget to save the blades from that famous piece you made too.. they'll also be worth a lot.

  6. Does anyone reuse the wires from around the blades for anything? Or do you just throw them out? Was a late night thought!!!

  7. Cute kid, he obviously takes after his grandmother. Sorry I just had to. I had a quick look at the site yesterday and thought that I might give it a try when I need too, thanks for showing us how good it is. Great looking pattern and cutting. Marg

  8. Save it! Roll it up into a ball. When you open a new pack of blades, connect the ends and continue to roll it into a ball. Just think, one day people will come from miles away just to see the world's largest scroll saw blade wire ball. Better hurry. My ball is up to a half inch!

  10. They just finished cleaning out the house next door (the neighbor passed away last year in a car accident), 5 construction dumpster loads plus a couple of trailer loads. I throw mine away.

    Wire around the blade

When my mother-in-law passed, we had to get construction dumpster to clean her house out We filled it and I mean filled it with empty carboard boxes, cookie tins, aluminum pie tins, balls of string and rubber bands, used gift wrapping, used gift boxes, used plastic tubs/containers (margarine, yogurt, takeout food), etc. Bottomline I toss the wire.

    Wire around the blade

I keep my blades in a tube,, I also keep them partially wrapped in the wire. When I need to change to a different blade I put the previous blade back in the tube separate from the wrapped blades. This way I know that the single blade is used. Sometimes a used blade is what is needed.

  15. I was rolling mine in a ball. After many times picking it up after finding it on the floor. I gave a toss to the trash can didn't roll out of that.

    Wire around the blade

I watched a rifle maker (is there a term for that?) do some inlay on the stock. He used various types of fine wire to embellish the wood. I guess one could incorporate it in some work. Oh, I toss mine too. No hording in our house, except for wood and sawdust.

  18. Go ahead and make use of it, I shared this on the puzzle group on FB. I think you have the ability to make your own pattern but this may help someone else. I kept getting asked for the patterns but not giving the puzzle / dog portion as I didn't design it so I make this where they can print both and tape the papers together to make their pattern. puzzle base clock.pdf clock Puzzle Base.pdf

  19. There is a salvage yard about 10 miles down the road. The last time I passed by they were paying $8.50USD per 100 pounds of misc scrap. I think that is about 20 lifetimes of scroll saw blades.

  23. I have 2 small sharps containers next to my saw, one is for used and broken blades and the other is for the wire off the blades. When I have a container full of old blades I wrap them in the wire and when we have some old metal to dispose of we take it down to the metal dump and I get rid of them there. Plus my husband has used some of the wire for whatever reason. Reuse and or recycle. Marg

    Wire around the blade

Can you all tell that we were born prior to the "throw-away mentality" came about? I can't stand to throw anything away. My Dad had a ball of string made up of pieces too small to save. Same with tin foil. Lol.

That looks fantastic! Do you add the colors or is the resin pre-colored. Looks like some of it is metallic.

    Wire around the blade

Barbara I have had a need for some fine wire on occasion, I can't remember what I used it on. But I know where to find it. I also have a very big spool of fine magnet wire that I rescued when I retired. We used to have a spool winding machine for making custom inductors and coils in the old analog electronics days.

    Look for the good.

Thanks Joe. I used a free program I found called Cute Cutter. You can Google it. I think it's primarily for making patterns for the Cricut vinyl cutting machines. It's fun to play with anyway. I was able to play around with it and get something close and then clean it up a little in Paint 3D. It was still a bit of a rough draft when I glued it on the wood. This is what I used as a pattern.

    Packing Tape

On compound cuts I always use packing tape. Not to hold it together but to lube the blade. I always use a clamping jig to keep the pieces together. With packing tape on all four sides, I find the blade cuts cleaner and faster and helps prevent burning, and the blade lasts longer. It works for me.
