Well I am back, I haven't been able to log on for awhile. I have been doing my best at playing Home Nurse to my Wife . She finally had Full Knee Replacement on her Left knee, And I have been playing home nurse to her, It has been a full time job. But she has been doing Fantastic. She got her staples removed today, boy they were a butch. She's able to walk better, with a walker. So maybe I can get back down to my shop and make some sawdust. and get back here to The Village and get caught up.6 points

Cleaning up the shop a little today,, found several patterns that I forgot all about. Some of them I found were I believe made by Grandpa last year,,, maybe the year before... it's been hectic the last couple of years! He made me some word in word patterns of my hometown and my current town that I have lived in for the last 33 years along with all of the places (City and State) that my wife and I have vacationed at for the last 33 years. I planned on making them all and hanging them on the beams going around my back porch. I also found about 10 pieces of Maple that I prepped back then. So I made my hometown today. May make some more tomorrow. I started out using my favorite go to blade.. FD UR1. It didn't seem to cut very well, this Maple is 1/2" thick and hard! I switch to an Olson #3 mach speed. It seemed to cut a little better so I stuck with it but it still took just over an hour to cut. Looking at the piece now,, looks like it may be Curly Maple. It still needs a finish and a hanger installed. I also included a pic of the porch where I will hang them. It is kinda out of the weather but I'll prob use a marine spar finish on them to help protect them.5 points

I had someone build it. I wish I would have done it myself but I just didn't have anyone that could help,, those beams are heavy! Made from Cypress, the post are true 6x6's. I recently had a fireplace built, contrary to what people think.. it does get cold down here in Florida. It was 26° yesterday morning.4 points -
I don't do this often. But you can drag a picture into google search bar (chose find picture icon first). Did A Couple More Dog Clocks
Phantom Scroller and one other reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Cut these the other day, all cut on the Excalibur with either a FD-UR or a FD- SR #5 One of them or maybe a couple was done with a Pegas #5.. I was experimenting with the blades to compare the cut edge as I seen someone posted on FB somewhere that they liked the smoother cut left behind by the FD blades.. Got to say I do believe the cut edges are more of a smooth almost polished look compared to the Pegas.. Still like cutting with the Pegas better though.. LOL Also just trying to use up the 2 gross of each style of FD blade I have on hand..LOL Anyway, enjoy the pictures..2 points -

I was looking at ways to ship a scrollsaw from the East Coast to the West coast and I was surprised how much it would cost. The 50 pound saw was $120 to ship. The separate motor was another $110. I checked with UPS Ground, FedEx Ground and Yellow Freight (YRC). These prices seem awfully high to me. Is there a better way to ship? Is any of this related to the current pandemic situation? I know there are staff (and vehicle) shortages in certain industries. -Alan1 point

I started making these for apprentice lineworkers once they completed their training (4 years) and became journey level lineworkers. I retired back in September and didn't wnat to leave out apprentices that I hired and started their training while I was still there. I plan on still making them as workers complete their training. May not be able to give in person but hope they like them.1 point

Amazon has them in the USA, but it will cost more than Ebay. amazon.com/12022-Rakuda-2-by-4-Square-Ruler/dp/B001Y51VUI/ref=sr_1_42?crid=173HCDFM7CBR2&keywords=rakuda+square&qid=1643739385&sprefix=rakuda+square%2Caps%2C117&sr=8-42 I used to get things like this from Japanwoodworker.com, but they are now closed. I believe that Woodcraft is in the process of buying them. Not sure how well this is going. Charley1 point

happy to hear that your wife is recovering, I had my left knee replaced about a year and a half ago. The therapy was great since I was able to do it all on-line. The new is almost as good as new.1 point

I've been there two times, a year apart. The healing process for a knee replacement takes time. The exercises determine how well she will recover. The more that she can do, the better she will recover, but when the pain is too much it's time to stop until the next day. Full recovery, at least for me, took about a year, but I was walking with a cane in about a month. The replacements are not as good as the originals before I wrecked them, but far better than I was going through before they were replaced. I finally got them to replace them when I started asking for a wheelchair. I should have asked much sooner. Charley1 point

Very generous of you Jim, to share all your patterns with us. Your patterns are very well done and are a joy to cut. A BIG thank you to you.1 point -
There are many of my patterns in the pattern files though I do have many more on my computer. I have been working on organizing them so that I can put more of them here. If there is something you may have seen cut and can't find it, feel free to give a shout out and I'll see if I can help you find it.1 point

Did A Couple More Dog Clocks
heppnerguy reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Hi Don, I buy the puzzle patterns and put them in inkscape to add the 1/2" ish rectangle and the circle for the clock.. I don't mess with the puzzle pattern at all, I just modify what / where I cut on the puzzle pattern as I cut. I like the puzzle pattern because I can and do make the puzzles as well. FD blades was my main go to blade for many years.. I still like them but I do like how the Pegas cut slightly better.. That's why I have a boat load of FD blades.. there are times where the FD blade performs better than the Pegas on some stubborn wood, LOL Or maybe it's my muscle memory.1 point -

new cuttings
Phantom Scroller reacted to penquin for a topic
Got two Russ Beard patterns done, both were a lot of fun but each was over 400 cuts. The wolf one is done on a 3/4 inch oak TV tray. the 2 tigers are done on oak also but it is several strips I edge glued up for a cutting piece, it is about a 1/2 inch thick. Blades used were on the 3/4 piece #5 UR dutchman and for the 1/2 oak # 3 UR dutchman blades. All worked good for me. Had a small issue on the large 3/4 inch oak but Charlie Hand helped out and gave me a couple of tips that worked great. My thanks to Russ for both patterns I really am happy how they came out.1 point -
Another Lineworker completes training
heppnerguy reacted to FrankEV for a topic
Very nice and very thoughtful. I'm positive they will be liked a lot! Back in the early 1960's I was hired by the Long Island Lighting Company (Long Island, NY) and was required to join the IBEW but it was on the clerical side of the company, so not a very active Union. The IBEW for the field side (linemen and the like) were the strong active union that got us all our benefits...whatever they got we got!!! Eventhough I moved into management later in my carreer, in my retirement since 1996, I'm still enjoying the benefits that I receive that was the actual result of being an IBEW member.1 point -
