  1. I'm starting to be able to do things with Inkscape, now to retain the knowledge and not have to relearn again and again. Now that I can modify the text, I can use various words in combo with the rose (sweetheart, thankyou, and names/other languages). In my last pattern I was able to change the color the lines printed in (red) and I was able to add red dots to indicate where to drill (the dots were .035 diameter, so when drilled they disappear, making it easier to see if all the opening have been drilled (so easy to miss one or two)) Original pattern (mother) Steve Good, font on new word z003, 5/16" hardwood, FD #1 polar blade, BLO finish.

  2. No, it has to have that fold so it wraps around the 2x. And the hole patterns for quick marking drill holes. I won't be buying the one on ebay for sure and probably won't buy the one on Amazon either. Worst case, I make my own. It just looked like something handy. The Incra looks neat too but those tiny holes so close together make my eyes hurt. Oh well, it was just a thought. At my age I should stop buying stuff I don't need. I lost another friend last week who I knew since 3rd grade. The reaper is getting too close.

  3. Had 4 projects that needed frames. A New John and Jesus. The Native American I finished a week or so ago and finally got Mt. Rushmore off the wall and got it framed.

  5. Couple factors working here. The size of the box can bump you into a higher price as well as the size. Look at the dimensions for the box. plug those into pirateship , trustworthy shipping site many people use. It will show you the prices. Around $60 to $80 on that site. You need to pack the item into as small a box as possible. Then measure and remeasure the dimensions. The size of the box can bump you into the higher prices sometimes faster than the weight. Dont use shipping services like the shipping store, they will gouge you. You can pack a box yourself and print a label. Its easy. You can print the label right at home and drop the box off at your local place like office depot or wherever. It wil tell you the locations.

You're not alone, I do a lot of word-in-a-word stuff and still, after all this time have Travis' video running in the background.

  8. I picked up one of these years ago for a couple of dollars on clearence. They are quite handy when building with 2x4s. Google "Universal Square".

  9. I have one, but it was a gift from a friend who is a cabinet maker. He thought it would be good for making repetitive marks as he worked but then refused to convert his measurements to metric, so he uses a square which has holes in it at various points. Marked in inches is a big plus he says. LOL. . It is unique and it was a gift, so it hangs out in a drawer in one of my roll-a-rounds, which is full of all sorts of other cool but seldom if ever used items. I also have one of these and use it all the time. INCRA Precision T-Rules | Rockler Woodworking and Hardware

    Home Nurse

Well I am back, I haven't been able to log on for awhile. I have been doing my best at playing Home Nurse to my Wife . She finally had Full Knee Replacement on her Left knee, And I have been playing home nurse to her, It has been a full time job. But she has been doing Fantastic. She got her staples removed today, boy they were a butch. She's able to walk better, with a walker. So maybe I can get back down to my shop and make some sawdust. and get back here to The Village and get caught up.

  11. I have been watching a ton of videos done by a Japanes craftsman and he has a lot of U.S. made tools even though he is in Japan. He pulled this little square out the other day and used it for marking drill holes in a 2 x 4 and I decided that I need one. I've tried every description and name I can think of and even gone on a couple of the Chinese supply sites but still nothing. I'm hoping someone here has one or at least knows what I'm talking about.

  12. Last few days my saw (Delta 40-694) sounds like it has thrown a rod or something (if any of you know what that sounds like in your car). BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!! I've taken it apart and greased the one bearing/bushing I could get to and greased the bushings/sleeves for the pegas chuck heads. It has quieted it down somewhat, but I'm afraid after 5 years this saw has seen its last cut Since these saws are now on back order/not available I'm thinking of going with either a Dewalt 788, or upgrading to one of the higher end saws like a Pegas or Seyco. I guess most of you feel the new Excalibur are not worth the money but that is also a consideration as the price is competitive to the dewalt now. Dewalts are running around $550 which has been the price for awhile now. The Excaliburs are running very close to that price for refurbished around $700 or about $900 new (21") but I can get a refurbished/renewd for $550 and free shipping The Jet series is probably not an option for me AFAIK it's about 100-200 more than the Pegas or Seyco saws and 300-400 over the excaliburs I'm very open to suggestions and recommendations at this point - either how to get rid of the rod knocking or which saw I should consider. I am putting a lot of time into the saws these days so that is a critical decision piece. Thanks as always in advance

  16. All of that looseness should go away as soon as you apply tension. And you answered my question regarding which set you have. I now go back to my original suggestion. I think that will fix your problem. I know it did on my Dewalt when it started knocking. It does make noise.
    1 point
  17. Those chuck heads will be loose when not under tension. Once you apply tension with the lever, the slack should disappear. They don't really need to be over tightened with your hex hey. Don't do anything to ruin them. I don't think that's your problem. Did you buy the chucks with the white nylon flip lever or did you buy the chucks made for the Dewalt type of saw? If you are still using the tension slide lever I assume you don't have the flip lever. If you have the flip lever, then you just need to adjust the slide lever to the correct setting and leave it there. All your tensioning will be done by the flip lever. The knockin you are referring to is the rod that goes from the slide lever clear up and back to a sliding wedge in the upper case. It is hitting the aluminum cover that is over it. I'd bet on it.

  18. Thanks Ray - there is no local market for these things but I will do my best to stay away from Chinese stuff. I do think my Delta was made in china though LOL
    1 point
  19. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM MAINLAND CHINA!!! If you are going to buy a new saw, the King, Excelcior, Pegas, Seyco would be my suggestion. All from Taiwan, probably the same factory. But, the Excaliburs are from China and nothing but trouble. Or try the used market in your area. Just no Chinese junk.
    1 point
  20. That sounds like maybe the tension rod is hitting the cover plate just the same as the Dewalts do. There is a fix on scrollsaws.com for the Dewalt. Not difficult if it's the same thing. I've not seen a Delta taken down so I'm not sure.

  22. Check with a local truck broker or shipper that isn't a commercial name (UPS, FEDEX, etc.). Locally we have Midnight Motor Express or MME. They haul stuff, but aren't a UPS type outfit. Truck broker's are the people who work out the logistics to get things from here to there and know whos going where when. Its worth a shot.

  23. I have one of these when I need to carry a line over a corner https://www.amazon.com/Shinwa-Japanese-Aluminum-Saddle-Layout/dp/B00GVBMCLC/ref=asc_df_B00GVBMCLC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309755258559&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15407268023728738464&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004484&hvtargid=pla-597912618684&psc=1 The rest of the time I use a precision 12" combination square (Starrett) or a mini 4" version from I gaging but am not impressed with their quality. These squares give a much broader usage than a saddle square. I inherited the 12 combination set from my father, I did not realize that the complete Starrett set is $200 https://www.amazon.com/iGaging-4-Precision-Double-Square/dp/B008DD1ACI/ref=asc_df_B008DD1ACI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309748512842&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15993580572656288396&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004484&hvtargid=pla-598510073964&psc=1

  36. Also try ltl (less than load) shipping with a freight company. Or check in with the home moving companies. They may take it but it might take a little longer as they wait until they have a full load.

  37. I'm sure if you keep searching the title from these listings you'll find something cheaper.. I found this by doing so.. different brand I think and maybe different but maybe you can work with it for the price? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fiskars-4-1-2-Square-Acrylic-Ruler-4-5-by-4-5-Inch-1-Each/19216413

  38. I think $12 isn't too bad really... the issue is the shipping cost for the one on eBay anyway.. At least for me I think it said shipping was $19.. but maybe I mis-read it.. For me the Amazon one is cheaper which is unusual as normally eBay is cheaper than Amazon.. I don't have prime but it does say free shipping for orders over $25 so find something else you need, LOL

There are many of my patterns in the pattern files though I do have many more on my computer. I have been working on organizing them so that I can put more of them here. If there is something you may have seen cut and can't find it, feel free to give a shout out and I'll see if I can help you find it.

  47. I've been using 5/8" - 3/4" inches.. photos above are either Cherry or Poplar. I think you could make them as thin as 1/2" and be fine too, or even thinner stock if you cut the hole for the clock all the way through. I do think the 5/8" - 3/4" look a little better and stronger.. More than 3/4" kind of bulky looking to me but really most anything you like should work so long as the clock fits in the material well. I've been considering trying to make some with thin 1/8" material ( probably stack cut BB ply ) and cutting a solid slightly larger and thicker backer ( maybe 1/2" walnut or cherry ).. as these are sort of fragile if they was to get knocked over.. thought the bone shaped base is pretty stable.. but would be rock solid if the backer was a solid piece.. Though I'm still experimenting with these designs and time will tell if they need a backer for more strength as I sell them and see if they make it to the customer broken or not, LOL.. Don't think there will be an issue unless you live where earthquakes happen a lot and they get shuffled around a lot.. We'll see how customer feedback is in the next year..

  48. UPDATE!! I decided to call the Little Machine Shop and did get some info. But before pulling the trigger on a new chuck, I wanted to make sure that my problem was actually the chuck. Anyway, long story short, I took the chuck off the d/p and cleaned it up and oiled it so that it operated like it should. Then I mounted a dial indicator to the d/p table and did a runout check on the quill. About .003-.005. Not bad. So, I cleaned up the quill and the inside of the chuck and re-mounted it. I did another check and it is still in about that same range. The quill bearings are a little noisy. Or maybe it's the belt/pulleys that are making a bit of noise. I found that my factory chuck will tighten down on a number 58 bit and that seems to be what I use the most. So that problem is solved. Then I decided to take a good look at the keyless adapter that mounts in the chuck to accept all the number bits down to an 80. That's where my problem is. It has a lot of runout. I took it all apart and cleaned it and removed a few burrs that were on the inside of it where the 3 jaws slide. It's better but by no means close enough that I will use it for any fine work. I guess you get what you pay for in that category. If I recall it was under $10. I think my problem is solved. I will stick with what I have and see how it goes. I'm not sure I could make it better enough to warrant the $40 plus dollars it was going to cost for a new keyless chuck. Thanks to everybody once again for beint the fount of information that you all are. My family!
