First completed project of 2022
Fish and one other reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Its been a rough month and a half for our family, but I've managed to chisel out some sawdust time. Finally finished another mandala. 1" whiteboard, stained Minwax "Honey", used a couple of Pegas MG #3 blades. Good project to put on an audiobook or stream music and set the rest of yourself on autopilot. I started with the inner circle of smaller triangles, then worked my way outward, saving the inner spiral for last. I have some epoxy that I picked up over the holidays (Amazon), and am planning on giving it a try with this one. I'll post pics if it turns out.2 points -

I believe that Kevin is correct and the Dewalt is made in China. Probably the same factory that makes the Delta.2 points -

Not bragging, but …
heppnerguy reacted to Millwab for a topic
… this puzzle ended up being the most difficult one I’ve cut to date. Between the picture (with a lot of solid color background) and the diagonal figure-8 cut it proved to be challenging. The first "test assembler" that tried it gave up on it, and the second one took 30 hours to finish it . Guess I’d better scale it back for the rest of the calendar.1 point -
Recipe Box.
barb.j.enders reacted to Fish for a topic
My wife’s recipe box had so many recipe cards in it and was so old it wouldn’t close anymore. I used a pattern from a book I’ve had for awhile and double the size so they would all fit. I used walnut for the box and oak for the Celtic symbol for “I love you always”. Everything fits in it now and some extra space for more. I used 321 for the finish. I’m working on another using Poplar for my daughter. She really liked it and there’s plenty of room for more cookie recipes.1 point -

My saw has thrown a rod or something. New saw time?
OCtoolguy reacted to new2woodwrk for a topic
Probably why I can't find one anywhere LOL UPDATE: Took the saw apart - did not take the upper arm piece apart.. Yet. I greased every bearing I could find. One thing that seems to have really helped is tightening the Pegas Chuck heads and greasing the bushings the screws slip into. But now it is much quieter that it was. Hope it stays that way but can't help thinking I may not need a new saw, but I think I want one anyway!1 point -
I used nogal and aspen for the chess pieces. The pattern is from the book The Art Of The Scroll Saw. The table is my design.1 point

Did A Couple More Dog Clocks
Phantom Scroller reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Cut these the other day, all cut on the Excalibur with either a FD-UR or a FD- SR #5 One of them or maybe a couple was done with a Pegas #5.. I was experimenting with the blades to compare the cut edge as I seen someone posted on FB somewhere that they liked the smoother cut left behind by the FD blades.. Got to say I do believe the cut edges are more of a smooth almost polished look compared to the Pegas.. Still like cutting with the Pegas better though.. LOL Also just trying to use up the 2 gross of each style of FD blade I have on hand..LOL Anyway, enjoy the pictures..1 point -

Do Pegas Replacement Blade Chucks/Clamps fit Excalibur EX-19?
OCtoolguy reacted to NC Scroller for a topic
The Excalibur 19 is from the early 90’s so they might have a different clamp design. It would help if you can post pictures of your current clamps.1 point -
Sorry about this folks but Scrimperuk has now morphed into scrimper. Unfortunately I am a bit dopey, I thought I already had an account here but could not find any record of it so I joined up as scrimperuk. once a member I looked at the members map and surprise there was scrimper listed as a member and of course it was me. I could not access the scrimper account but I contacted admin and Travis has very kindly amalgamated me with the scrimper account. It all sounds very complicated but basically if you see reference here as scrimper or scrimperuk it's me. So sorry for a second introduction, actually I think it's my third!1 point

Oiling is a method I use for outside furniture, Usually I thin Boiled Linseed oil 50 % with turps and apply, let it soak in for a day or so and reapply, then after another couple of days use a full strength linseed oil. Once that has dried two or three coats of polyurethane gloss.. Lacquer wont take as well it is not oil based. Shellac should as to do French Polishing it is mixed with linseed oil. Can't help with the other oils sorry.1 point

Old Joe reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
I use Shellac diluted with denatured alcohol. Dries quickly and brings out the color and grain.1 point -
First What kind of oil? Mineral oil will never dry but Blo ,or walnut oil , or tung oil will dry, but it may take a couple of days, then you are good to spray your gloss finish.1 point

Pegas Chuck Head Set
NC Scroller reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
Do you have the Pegas Scroll Saw or Pegas Chuck Head Set? If you ever have a problem with the clamping aside from the Set Screww and Thumb Screw with swivel, parts can be ordered. I do not stock these, but I can get them from Pegas. In fact, there are many parts available. There is a customer on Facebook where the Clamp Bracket actually split on a two-year-old saw. Any questions, I would be happy to help. 90.750-41D Clamp Bracket (for upper assembly) 90.750-36D Blade Chuck (for lower assembly)1 point -

NEED SUGGESTIONS FOR A COUPLE OF ON GOING PROBLEMS
heppnerguy reacted to barb.j.enders for a topic
I just bought a pop up spray booth as well. I haven't got a fan going yet. It sits on my Flatmaster sander and I put a piece of cardboard on the bottom. I have only used it a couple of times. It is white so the light diffuses through it so it isn't dark in there.1 point -
Fantastic work!! Are there two drawers, or does the one drawer slide out to either side? I've always wanted to make a chess set but I'll wait until I retire.1 point

I Heart - Scroll Saw Challenge
BadBob reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
A couple of recent cuts. The first is from the last issue of SSWW magazine, we're dog people (Great Danes, so we don't have to bend over nearly as much, but its the sentiment that counts). Cut it out of a small bamboo cutting board that was being thrown out at work. Second is the "mechanical heart" pattern from Steve Good. Gears spin. I've cut the small (pendant-sized) pattern and the larger pattern, then blew up that pattern to 150% and cut it as well. Third is a little jewelry box I did back in 2020. Another Steve Good pattern, I think. The rose was one of the toppers he had in the pattern, cut that for my wife. The dragon is for my daughter.1 point -

name and a rose
Phantom Scroller reacted to Wichman for a topic
I'm starting to be able to do things with Inkscape, now to retain the knowledge and not have to relearn again and again. Now that I can modify the text, I can use various words in combo with the rose (sweetheart, thankyou, and names/other languages). In my last pattern I was able to change the color the lines printed in (red) and I was able to add red dots to indicate where to drill (the dots were .035 diameter, so when drilled they disappear, making it easier to see if all the opening have been drilled (so easy to miss one or two)) Original pattern (mother) Steve Good, font on new word z003, 5/16" hardwood, FD #1 polar blade, BLO finish.1 point -

new cuttings
Phantom Scroller reacted to penquin for a topic
Got two Russ Beard patterns done, both were a lot of fun but each was over 400 cuts. The wolf one is done on a 3/4 inch oak TV tray. the 2 tigers are done on oak also but it is several strips I edge glued up for a cutting piece, it is about a 1/2 inch thick. Blades used were on the 3/4 piece #5 UR dutchman and for the 1/2 oak # 3 UR dutchman blades. All worked good for me. Had a small issue on the large 3/4 inch oak but Charlie Hand helped out and gave me a couple of tips that worked great. My thanks to Russ for both patterns I really am happy how they came out.1 point -
