    Bulldozer

Been working on this off an on. Red Oak an Walnut. Finished by dipping in 50/50 BLO. Front blade goes up and down also the blade swivels left an right. Hardest part was making the tracks. You can’t see in pictures but the tracks are guided by wheels. The tracks turn also. Used Pegas MG #5. Used bandsaw to cut groves around the engine cover. 15”x9”x9” pattern from Toys & Joys.

    WEN Scroll Saw users

I was constantly having trouble with the blade clamps on my WEN scroll saw either slipping or completely coming loose when cutting. The original knobs that came on the saw broke within the first couple weeks because I had to "over tighten" just to keep the blades from slipping. I tried roughing the clamping area of the clamps with sandpaper and that helped some but again, the slipping returned. Eventually, having to tightened the clamps so much to try to get them to hold, the threads of the clamp would strip. I started using a regular bolt and a nut driver to tighten the clamps. I made knobs but trying to tighten them by hand was no sufficient enough to hold. The original blade clamps use a M4-.07 bolt/thread. I drilled and tapped a clamp with a #10-24 and made another knob. So far it has been working fine. The coarser thread tightens faster and you don't have to turn and turn and turn to get the clamp to close onto the blade. Clamps can be purchased through WEN for about $5 each. I've ordered a half dozen and will use them until I start having problems with slippage. Then I'll drill and tap to uses with the larger, coarser thread. Hope this helps some of the WEN users. My goal is to upgrade saws sometime in the future but for now, this will have to do.

    FINALLY

I finally got this downloaded so I could post it. This pattern came from the pattern library here and the maker of the pattern in "Shady Lady". I showed it to my wife and she wanted me to cut it for one of our grandkids, so here it is. This is the second one of this frame I have made and I think by the next one, I should get it right, I hope. I cut this on 1/4 in BB Birch ply and made the frame from aspen and purple heart. I enjoyed cutting it and this one I am happy enough at the finished results. Dick heppnerguy

    Excalibur 21

The EX saws you see being sold now are NOT the same EX saw that used to be made.. Most of what you see on Amazon and eBay are actually refurbished China made knockoffs of the original one. China reverse engineered the old EX and did a pretty poor job of it.. While they look the same they are not.. while a lot of the parts are interchangeable not all of them are.. so even sourcing parts would be tough for the ones that are not the same. I have one of those cheaper saws.. Nothing but issues with it and finally got it working decent after throwing alot of "real " EX parts into the saw.. Basically the shell / frame is the only thing I didn't replace, LOL..

    New screen name

I have changed my screen name; formerly Algae, now TAIrving. I joined this forum 1-1/2 years ago after buying my first scroll saw, a used Porter-Cable, from a neighbor. I had low expectations but wanted to learn something about the scroll-sawing hobby. Wow did I learn! First of all, it is not a hobby, it is an obsession! And so much more! And the learning never stops. Now I have a Pegas scroll saw and a shop full of completed and half-completed projects and my wife has learned to tolerate it all, the endless gifting of projects, me returning from the shop covered in sawdust, etc. Thanks for your camaraderie! See you on the forums.

  13. They might not be worth $100 a set if one is calculating the cost to the designer, the manufacturer, or the seller, but they worth worth at least $100 a set to me when Installed them on my ancient EX30.

  14. Our Harry Potter crazy granddaughter is turning 8 next week. I did a Potter portrait and made a compound cut wizard’s wand and stand. The wand and stand were from Al Baggetta patterns. The pattern was another C. Dearing pattern. The wand was cut from African Rosewood, the stand was Zebra wood and Hard Maple.

  15. So it's Pegas issue and not that they are being installed on a worn out saw? I don't have a Delta and never installed a set of these chucks on any Delta or DW saw.. I do have these and installed them on my Excalibur.. and in my kit they supplied new bearing sleeves for the front portion of the saw as it needed longer pins for the wider more solid chucks.. Could be the fact that you have worn bearings.. and installing the new sleeves into the worn bearings quiets the saw down but being the new sleeves aren't worn the same as the bearing it's throwing off your saws blade angle.. and that sleeve can get settled into a permanent spot because the the funky worn bearing.. When taking down a car engine they always recommend replacing the parts from which they came from if reusing them other wise replace all of them right down to the bolts in the same hole from where they came from.. There is a reason for that. It don't take much to be off in one spot to throw something way off in another spot.. I'll go on a limb and say it's the saw issue and not the blade chuck issue for this reason.. You already had issues with noise.. There are way too many rave reviews of these chucks in my opinion to be the chuck issue.. I have heard of "some" issues with these chucks besides you.. but really only about 3-4 others.. and just like you.. they was going on a old saw that was probably pretty well worn.. I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong as I have no idea since I'm not there working on it.. and seeing what wear the old sleeves have and what the saw is doing wrong / right.. BUT.. I have been reading about your saw sounding loud and maybe worn.. I also know you had it apart.. I wasn't there to see how tight you put things back together etc.. Old bearings like to have the same inch pounds or foot pounds of torque applied to them that they had or they'll be noisy wear out faster etc.. I never understood those that take these apart and only replace half of the parts in them.. Unless they are precisely measuring the bearings and sleeves to see that they are within a tolerance the new tighter bearings & sleeves will make the older slightly sloppy bearings and sleeves hammer themselves into destruction faster.. then they'll be pulling it apart again in short order to replace those.. I stand by my word that it's faulty equipment and not faulty blade chucks.. I might be wrong.. but I'm just not buying it knowing the history of the saw with having issues before these was installed.. and knowing the quality of the chucks I received and the many more rave reviews for these Pegas parts.. saws, blades and all.. It's a saw issue I think..

    For my Valentine

Hi Every one, It's for my Valentine (for 43 years, I've been lucky) Who said not her? I saw the pattern on Steve Good's site but when I started cutting I thought I'd stop there. I like simple things. I think it's not bad. Eric

  22. I bought a set for my DeWalt and had pretty much the same problem. The chucks have an inner spindle they ride on that's wider than the chuck and the chuck will slide side to side. I contacted the vender who contacted the maker I believe. They said they would take care of me. I made a set of thin washers from plastic with a set of hole punches, and that fixed the problem for me. It took a long time to get some thing from the makers. I believe they sent me a set of spring or wave washers. I never used them. when my plastic washers wear out I'll go back to the original chucks. They also claim that the chucks weigh less than the originals, I weighed mine and the Pegas chucks are heavier.

  24. I presented my wife with the Steve Good Valentine's gnomes this morning for Valentine's Day and she surprised me with a project of her own, a Valentine's card on stretched canvas! She enjoys her crafts, not woodworking, as much as I enjoy scrolling!

  27. I'm pleased with how this one turned out. How can one man have such an awesome voice, face, and name. Not fair. Cut in 1/2 red oak with a rough cut walnut backer. 8" X 10" Not exactly a relaxing cut with lots of small pieces begging to break off. But I got to listen to a lot of his music while I cut.

  28. Thanks for your update... Yeah, not going to happen for me! When I buy a product, I expect it to work and if the company gives me no satisfaction, then I will NEVER do business with that company again and will never recommend anything they sell I had contacted the company I bought them from originally to return them, they wanted to charge me 20% restocking fee - screw that! I will never buy anything from that company again either even though others here love them!

  29. Nope sorry, if the old chucks work it can't be the saw. These chucks are no good for my saw - that's great others have used them with success, I have wasted hours and hours trying to get these to work that I will never get back I have not and will not recommend them or use them on any future saws Waiting for my new saw to arrive

  30. It is either a defective set of chucks or there problem is with your saw. I'd contact the Pegas vendor and request an exchange set to verify. There are too many satisfied users of these chucks so I think you either got a bad set or there is something out of whack on your saw.
