Americana 6 by Jim Blume
heppnerguy and 14 others reacted to Dak0ta52 for a topic
Working a few minutes here and a few there, I was finally able to finish Jim Blume's Americana 6. The cutting is on 1/4 maple finished with natural with a pine black backing. I sprayed several coats of clear with light sanding between each coat. The frame is pine finished with antique oak stain. This is the third I've done in this series with hopes to complete them all. Thanks, Jim, for the fantastic patterns.15 points -

Anybody heard from Scrappile?
scrollingforsanity and 8 others reacted to Scrappile for a topic
Hey all. Thanks for the thoughts. I am Okay. But very busy... Around Dec, 1st I had a second stroke. But I am still up right and functioning. I don't have alot of time here, because my wife also ended up in the hospital again with breathing problems... So now she is tethered to an oxygen machine all the time. So she can only go around 50 feet... And I do most the cleaning, washing and cooking now. keeps me busy.. When we do go together we are on a timer, her little carry machine runs about 4 hours on a battery. It is a good timer, that is really all the longer she has the stamina for.. I always take an extra battery and an oxygen take, for just incase we get delayed. So this is our life now... Not complaining, we have had good lives and it is our time to slow down now. She can still do a little quilting and I'm getting proficient enough at my chores that I am getting a little time in the shop again... In fact I did finish one project I started some time ago. I had it all cit out, just need finishing... It is called the Blois Goblet, a Finescrollsaw pattern. And I am doing a little work on my Woozle Bird..9 points -
Welcome with Toppers
Phantom Scroller and 5 others reacted to Dak0ta52 for a topic
I was able to finish the last topper for the WELCOME sign. Just to recap, the pickets are pine (plan on getting cedar next time) and the letters and toppers are Steve Good patterns. The toppers have a metal plate glued to be back and there is rare earth magnet on the pickets that holds the topper in place.6 points -
Kokopelli Band
Norm Fengstad and 2 others reacted to FrankEV for a topic
I needed a fourth statue to fill an open box in the cabinet next to my desk and have been meaning to cut a Kokopelli for a long time. I have a few different Kokopelli patterns on file, but for this Statue I needed something different. I did find many images on-line and did use two different Kokopelli images I found, to use for the basic outline. However, I added my own designs and put two together to form this Statue I call Kokopellie Band. My final version is 13” tall and 11” wide cut from ¾” Red Oak. I added tenons to the feet of the statues that fit into mortises in the Base. I used my table saw to make the tenons about a half a blade width narrower than the ¾” thickness of the statue. Cutting was relatively easy and done with Pegas #5 MGT blades. The base is about a 3 ½” wide x 11” long x ¾” thick oval with about a four-degree perimeter bevel all around eased at the top with a small round over router bit. All statue edges were eased with my Dremel using sanding drums followed by a good deal of hand sanding using 200 grit up to 1500 grit final sanding before finishing. Finishing was my typical multiple coats of clear gloss Deft Spray Lacquer. As always, comments and critiques are welcome.3 points -

Hi everyone, just thought I would show you a couple of pieces I just did on my new Pagas 21 from Denny. So far it runs great and is very quiet. These are Steve Good Patterns. The flower stand chair isn't sanded or glued yet ,so you might see some fuzzies. I just put it together to see if everything fits. Now I'll go sand it and paint it white.2 points

Wood person and dog
heppnerguy reacted to Hawk for a topic
My wife saw this somewhere online, asked me if I could make on for her. I couldn't remember where I saw the pattern, so a quick post here and Wayne Mahler pointed me to where I could find it. Her only request was to change the tail position, she's a show dog person, Springer Spaniel. I used Ash and Butternut. Took less time than I thought. I gotta say I'm really loving the King SS I picked up last year. Chris1 point -
I don't know if any remember how I had some issues with my jointer motor variable speed issue back in June.. and the electric motor shop said it's time for a new one as the parts are obsolete.. This motor service place use to save me a ton of money.. but the good guy doesn't seem to work there anymore.. They said the variable speed chip in the circuit board was bad and the circuit board is no longer available.. Well I did some research and found a circuit board but wasn't worth nearly $200to me since this same jointer new is only $250 ish.. Anyway I called the motor shop about bypassing the VS.. he said it was not able to do that on this set-up.. well turns out it is.. after lurking around the web and finding others having the same issue.. some guy posted something about if you have a motor with brushes then you can bypass it.. Anyway after getting this thing apart I see it has a normal pot switch in it.. however I don't care for the VS anyway and always left it on fast speed.. I just wired it to bypass that and it's working great.. Unfortunately but I used to brag and send that motor shop a lot of business over the years.. Doubt I'll go back there for anything much any more since the one guy isn't there anymore.. Good day today since I found a fix for my miter saw ( another post earlier today ) and now I got this jointer going.. Just didn't get much scroll sawing done.. only cut 10 ornaments today.. and my goal was to cut about 60, LOL.. Guess the day isn't completely over yet, LOL1 point

If they have CD sets boy I'd like to find some of those... The CWWC magazine is the one I liked best.. I have a few of the magazines.. and like Dan.. they are in a file cabinet and rarely even looked at.. I don't think they had any CD's but the other magazine Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts I believe is the one that did cd sets from past issues..1 point

I use a dowel is inserted into an existing hole in the body to provide a handle and stand. The dowel must be a tight fit. The dowels work well until the toy is heavy. I sometimes use long nose locking pliers to hold the dowel. For a larger toy, I glue a dowel into a hole in the bottom of the toy at the center of gravity to use as a handle. I cut the dowel with a flush-cut saw when the finish has cured. The advantage of this method is that I can paint batches of toys in a small space.1 point

I'll have to look but I have many of the older magazines. They are boxed up so I probably won't use them. Let me know which ones you are looking for. I also believe I purchased a 2 cd set of the magazines but I'm not sure if it was for that magazine. I just have to find them also.1 point -

Trivets by Sue Mey

Trivet #1 and Trivet #2 of a set of 8 designed by Sue Mey and finally finished. The Trivet #1 wood is 1/2" Walnut 8" square. The Trivet #2 wood is 1/2" Cherry 8" square. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #3R MGT blades. After sanding, dipped in BLO, dried for a day, sanded again, dipped in BLO again, final sanding and then a light rubbing with paste wax. Comments welcome.1 point -
Americana 6 by Jim Blume

Hello Rodney, fantastic work - great pattern, great scrolling!1 point -
Just a hint for finishing. I used two 12" long dowel rods through the axle holes while I put on the tung oil. Kind of use them like chopsticks to hold the car while I brush on the finish and check for any runs in the finish. I then set it to dry over 2 old plastic peanut butter pretzel jars. Works really well and enables me to get 360 degree access to the car without getting fingerprints (or glove prints) on the car.1 point

Hi, Chris, How about telling us a little about yourself? I have an index of the CWWC issues that I have that goes from 1990 to August of 2014 but, I definitely do not have any type of index of every issue they ever published. What exactly are you looking for? Have you indexed the copies you own and which copies you have that are duplicates? God Bless! Spirithorse1 point

I used to have a P-20 and really liked it. I bought a Hegner MultiMax and gave to Delta P-20 to one of my grandsons as I didn't have room for both saws. Just curious how much are you trying to sell it for?1 point

I too have an extensive collection of Creative Woodworks and Crafts with a few as far back as the late 90's. I have thought about getting rid of them but then I think I might want to cut something out of one of them. I do sit down and go through some and pick out some patterns that I overlooked before. Very nice. I ordered the plans myself. They had a 35% discount if you order 2 or more,, so...... I just had to order 2! Not sure if I have anything thick enough for the bodies beside 2"x6" Pine. I have some 1" Cherry, Walnut, and Padauk. But I really don't want to do any glue ups. I may have some 2" thick Cedar. Oh, and some 6" thick Cypress. I still need to order some wheels and axles.1 point

Dragon Sword
Charlie E reacted to spirithorse for a topic
Greetings! Here is a Dragon Sword that I cut for my grandson. He was born in the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese Zodiak. On the back of the small shield, I typed some of the characteristics of the Chinese Dragon. lucky numbers, lucky colors and a Chinese symbol that says Dragon. I don't believe in astrology or most of these items like the Chinese Zodiak but, I thought it was a fun little project and should entertain him and his parents. Ironically, Steve Good called his pattern a Dragon Slaying Sword but, I have represented it as a symbol of the Chinese Dragon birth year. Nothing to brag about but, shown here for your amusement or critique. God Bless! Spirithorse1 point -
