  3. I found a couple of black and white images of Alligators on-line that I was able to convert into scrollable patterns. I thought they would make for a portrait of something a little different. I knew I was going to hand paint with Artist Acrylics, so I used up a piece of my 5/32” solid core Birch for the cut panel and the positive images were then mounted on 1/4” thick BB ply backer. Although there are some exceedingly small detail cuts, the cutting was easy, using Pegas #2/0 spiral blades, with just over 150 holes to produce the two images. After painting and assembly, the panel was protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Spray Lacquer. Now here is the question: Did you know that Alligators are not Green, regardless of what most painted images depict? When I did a Google search for the actual color of Alligators and looked at many photos, I found out that they are most often blackish, with light toned under bodies. Alligator colors can vary with their habitation, and some can be somewhat green but most are not. The Frame is my standard 1 3/4” wide Poplar stained with Minwax Ebony and protected with multiple coats of Minwax clear Gloss Wipe-on-Poly. Comments and critique always welcome. Edit: Corrected the spelling of Alligator and added a camera raw image photo below.

  7. I've been wanting to cut these Steve Good patterns for some time. The horse is 3/4" Select Pine with Pegas MGR # 5 blades. Now to figure what to finish it with. The switch plate toppers (1/8" BB) I'm going to see if they will sell at the town farmers market this summer. Used some #5's and #3's. And now . . . time to relax.

  8. Basket pattern by Alex Fox. I used 1/4" Hard Maple 10" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. The finish is two coats of spray Shellac with sanding between coats. This piece of wood was extremely cupped and after cutting the rings and gluing, turned out nice and flat. Comments welcome.

  10. I sold my 25 year old Delta jointer for within 50 dollars of what I paid for it new. I bought a rototiller for the back of my tractor 5 years ago. Paid 1300 for it new. Don't use it much any more so I'm going to sell it. A new one if you can find it is 2100 now. So when I list it going to ask 1500.

  12. I'm betting someone else out there already knows this, and it's probably already been posted before (I'm too lazy to check). Inkscape uses the SVG format/file extension. Turns out, so does the Brother Scan n' Cut machine. I suspect the Cricket machine does too. Anyway, I imported a Steve Good PDF pattern into Inkscape and then saved it. From there, started up the Scan n' Cut program and imported the saved Inkscape SVG file, enlarged it, and cut it out using cardstock. It took 6 minutes for the machine to cut it out. My cutting depth was a hair shy so I had to coax a few letters out with an exacto knife. It may come in handy for making stencils.

So I put my new table saw together a few minutes ago and this is so dumb on their part. I gotta send it back. They put the blade way down below the table. How the heck do they think it’s supposed to cut like that?

  16. Alligators, with an "i". I think the mouth area would look a bit better with a lighter red or even a peachy pink color. Good representation of this area. Very believable to walk outside most any where in Florida and find one!

  22. My old table saw will be going to the scrap metal recyclers.. it's too dangerous to sell in my opinion.. the bad bearing and wear on the transmission makes the blade have some wobble and it's really just not all that save to use.. I really should have scrapped it 5-6 years ago instead of putting a band aid on it so to speak. The planer I had offered up free to a few friends but no takers so I'll put it up on FB Marketplace soon.. It's getting worn but does work well enough and has some life left. I just know prices are going up on most everything really soon.. and I know I'm going to "need" them in the next couple years.. Might as well buy now.. if I don't like them for some reason with inflation happening, I might be able to sell them for near what I paid, LOL

  23. Yeah, the drawing program ( V-carve ) for my CNC is way easier to design with than inkscape and other free programs..

    New DeWalt Planer

My friends say you will be very happy with your new planer. I sold my 13” Delta planer that still ran great and upgraded to a 15” jet helical planer. I give away my old tools to friends as well.

  35. Thanks Rodney. Very easy to cut, it is the glue up that takes time. I start with the top ring upside down and work up from there.

  39. What is the fun in watching a machine do the cutting for you.? Where is the pleasure you get when you do it yourself? I guess it is a great thing if you are a sign maker or need to make 99 exactly the same. However, IMHO it sure is not scroll saw work. Although I embrace technology, I guess in this instance I'm a purest or traditionalist if you will. Please understand no disrespect is intended here. I'm just not very pleased to see discussion about computer aided cutting in the SSV. I'm sure there are other forums where it would be much more appropriate.

You have to pass it along. As prices rise on everything, folks get used to it and won't notice. Our $8 McDonald's lunch is now about $12.

    Table angles

That is why you need to do test cuts. Since different blades have different tooth offsets. Also the quality and adjustments of a saw also impact the kerf.

Take your time when cutting inlays and make sure not to push sideways. These were 1/4 into 1/4 inch material. Olson 2/0 R 28 TPI

Yes it is virtually the same thing but the rules of supply and demand will not make it any cheaper.
