    Not Been Idle

Just wanted to note that I haven't been idle. Warmer weather brings chores around the farm and I've been working on a few commissions when at the saw. Since I've done the "WELCOME" signs with interchangeable toppers, I've gotten multiple requests. The pics below are two of the commissions with a new topper that is a Steve Good pattern. The front is maple stained natural and the back is birch stained espresso. Both are 1/4 inch. The are finished with 4 coats of clear with a light sanding between each coat. I've also been doing some of my other toppers which I've shown in a past post. I'm ready to get these commissions done so I can get back on one of Jim Blume's patterns I'd love to finish.

    Happy Easter

Stack cut the white layer, 1/8” Baltic birch. The back layer is 1/2” maple that I glued and planed. After cutting, I gave them to my wife for painting. She is keeping the blue rabbit. The pink rabbit is going to one of our grand nieces. Sue Mey pattern.

  3. i am 100% with Bernd. I use the same brand bought at the same woodcraft location. I have had a bottle more than 6 months and still useable. IF you decide to use accelerator you MUST spray in a direction or a bit away from your open CA bottle. The spray mist May contaminate your CA. Good luck.

  4. After trying many brands, my solution was to buy the Harbor Freight 10 pack. Reasoning that I would open the tube, use the glue, and then toss it. For some reason, I didn't throw it out, and it hasn't dried up on me. It comes in thin and thick versions. Current pricing is $2.99 for ten tubes.

    Stack Cutting

I have the Banks 22gauge pin nailer from HF.. smallest pins are 1/2" I mostly use the 1/2 and 5/8 which is also from HF.. I've only had it maybe a year now.. but use it quite a lot for nailing 4 - 5 1/8" BBply for stack cutting ornaments. NOTE: I nail them on the concrete floor. If I try to use a longer nail in a short stack.. the nailer will jam if trying to prevent it from going all the way through. My random orbit sander even with pretty fine paper on it will sand them flush in no time and keeps the nails from scratching the saw table..

    The Tomb Was Empty

I saw this on a social media Ad the other day, I felt compelled to make it today, I just hand drew it out on the wood & cut it out....then did a little shaping......now I will have to make a shelf for it..... American heritage & red mahogany stains....simple powerful piece. God Bless

  8. I've been wanting to cut these Steve Good patterns for some time. The horse is 3/4" Select Pine with Pegas MGR # 5 blades. Now to figure what to finish it with. The switch plate toppers (1/8" BB) I'm going to see if they will sell at the town farmers market this summer. Used some #5's and #3's. And now . . . time to relax.

  9. Ray, you don't want to hear this, but CA glue exposure can be dangerous. Pen turners use it a lot and there is documentation of people becoming allergic over time. Us sparingly if you do use it.

Hello Don, can you please share a picture of this stand?

  11. I don't use CYA glue for my woodworking projects, haven't found a need. Titebond and 3M77 seem to do everything I need. What do you use it for? I might try it for stack cutting using the technique from @CSull/Craig in another post. I am still contemplating Dan's idea of using it as a finish.

  12. I was told to tap the bottle on the bench after using then cap it. this will lessen chance of glue build up at the squirt out nozzle

  13. Every one of these I ever used dried up shortly after being opened.

  14. Thanks for this Ray, you have started something. My only experiences with super glue have been fairly unsuccessful and I have only managed to glue my fingers together (probably more often than I have glued projects). My fingers stuck fairly rapidly and I was told it was because the fingers had sweat/moisture on them that worked as an accelerator.Go figure. Don W

  15. @OCtoolguy Ray, I don't know how cold it gets where you hang your hat, but I very, very rarely have problems with CA (Super Glue) drying out. Perhaps because it is bloody hot here I usually purchase it from, what you blokes call a dollar store, Red dot etc, in 2g tubes on cards of up to 10 tubes. When I get them home, i bust them of the card and place them all in a screw top jar and just keep them in a cupboard in the shed. Part used I place next to the jar. Sometimes I have to cut the tip of a little because it has become blocked.

  16. I also use the Stick fast,, have had prob. 6 or 8 bottles in the last couple of years and only one dried up on me. I tap the bottle on the bench after using and put the cap on immediately. A few bottles that I have had,, the cap didn't close very tight so I put a piece of Glad cling wrap on first then the cap.

    Stack Cutting

I have used 3/8" pin nails in my pin nailer with no problem. The info on the nailer says 1/2" minimum, but the 3/8" goes through with no problem. For stack cutting two pieces of 1/8" (or 3mm), I will use brad nails in the waste areas. If the points of the nails come through, I will just knock them back till they are flush with the back of the plywood. Most often 3 nails will hold everything together. Tom

  18. Many years ago I remember hearing about a rock and guitarist who played so much and so hard that his some of the calluses on his fingers came off - and he put them back on with CA and kept playing.

    Stack Cutting

I have a micro pin nailer from Banks,I have had good luck with it so far.1/2 ,3/4,1 inch pins,I have stacked two parts with double sided tape, and used a heat gun to make the tape soft, then separate with thin putty knife. SLOWLY.

  22. Basket pattern by Alex Fox. I used 1/4" Hard Maple 10" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. The finish is two coats of spray Shellac with sanding between coats. This piece of wood was extremely cupped and after cutting the rings and gluing, turned out nice and flat. Comments welcome.

  23. If you read labels the ca glue states that if the parts are damp it will stick better. I ran out of accelerator one time and just used water from spray bottle. Couldn’t tell any difference.

  24. I use this. As long as I remember to put the lid back on tight, I've never had it dry up on me. I don't use accelerator. Sets up fast enough for me without it.

    Mock Setup of Booth

I actually run a Facebook page dedicated to the town locals and I turned it into an Open House type event and a couple dozen folks swung by during the 11am to 2pm window I announced. I had said my intent was not to sell anything, etc, etc. But 1 person did buy a puzzle anyway. LOL

    Bunny for easter

Hi All I Made a little Steve good bunny. My first project using real solid wood instead of ply. It was a little thick for my saw. Still I know its limits now.

    Easter.....soon

Hello tout le monde, It's almost Easter I found the pattern in Steve Good's catalogs. I reduced by 40% and it gave lace. Sizes are approximately 4.72 X 5.11 inches. I'll hope you enjoy. Have a nice day. Eric
