  1. Finished this today, cut from 1/4BB with a 1/8BB backer. I made the frame from poplar and stained it. No more large projects for a while!

    Leopard Cut

My latest cut is the Russ Beard Leopard, this is my fifth cut, it took me about between 40-50 hours to cut, to time is not an issue. The pattern was cut on a highly modified Marlet Scroll Saw (your Wen) using 1/4” Prime Ply Grade B/BB. Used approximately 4 Doz Niqua #1 & 2 Blades ( not much choice where I live). Finished with Rustins Danish Oil, then two coats Medium Oak wood stain, and the a final coat of clear Matt varnish. The frame is going to be pine if I can find straight pieces most of our pine looks like gem clips, once the frame is made I want to burn it with a blow torch and brush it with a wire brush until I’ve got a true rustic Africa feel to it and apply sanding sealer and some Gloss Clear Varnish.

  8. Okay, I admit it. I am a string saver - or in this case a scrap saver. I have a box full of little scraps of walnut, cherry, curly maple, etc. They are just too nice to toss out and besides I just might need them some day. There. I confessed. I have taken a break from scrolling as I am building a jewelry chest for my granddaughter with plus a month of wintering in Florida. So it has been months since I scrolled and I am out of practice. So I thought about creating a pattern that would work with some of those scraps and resharpen my scrolling skills. Here's the result - cut in, as yet, unfinished cherry. This was before I added the oval seen in the attached pattern and added a bit of safety allowance for the dropouts in the word "Peace". This particular stock was 3.5"x 4.25" was and required me to use a Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse 2/0 blade. That took some real getting used to. Man, those blades are thin! I will be finishing this in my new "home brew" Danish oil/ then Shellac sealer and finally, lacquer. (By the way this formula for Danish oil dries much faster than Watco. Odor free in a day-and-a- half and safe to finish coat in 3 days.) If you missed my post on that here's the website where I found the formula. https://vanduynwoodwork.com/2018/09/18/danish-oil-finish-top-3-reasons-to-mix-your-own/ MASTER single belzeir dove final.pdf

    The Tomb Was Empty

I saw this on a social media Ad the other day, I felt compelled to make it today, I just hand drew it out on the wood & cut it out....then did a little shaping......now I will have to make a shelf for it..... American heritage & red mahogany stains....simple powerful piece. God Bless

    The other rose

I used a pipe cleaner to get the vertical surfaces. It's a clear pine plaque made of laminated strips.

  12. Other than for cuts on my fingers, my main use is putting a dab in unglued spots for small panel glue ups and, the like. Used correctly, it'll hold the parts together without the need for clamps.

  14. Great job, Craig. I can understand smaller projects right now. I'm trying to finish up a couple commissions and going through my scrap for any piece I can use.

  19. I used to sell Ca glue and Accelerator when I worked in a hobby shop. Accelerator is not necessary. Just blow on it and the moisture from your breath will accelerate it just as well.

  21. Here's a great pic of what I'm talking about. It came from Scrollsaws.com if you haven't visited there yet.

  22. If you read labels the ca glue states that if the parts are damp it will stick better. I ran out of accelerator one time and just used water from spray bottle. Couldn’t tell any difference.

  23. I use this. As long as I remember to put the lid back on tight, I've never had it dry up on me. I don't use accelerator. Sets up fast enough for me without it.

  24. i use the techniques described by Frank and Wichman. I use the Pegas 2/0 blades and find that I have to reduce the tension because they are fragile. I have had brand new blades snap just from applying full tension.

  26. Nice job, Bruce. And you're not the lone ranger in saving small pieces of wood. I had a piece that I had saved, and it turned out to be the perfect size to cut a diagonal where I could double stack and still fit my pattern.
