Earlier works . . .
Norm Fengstad and 6 others reacted to Joe W. for a topic
Is it OK to submit some things I cut out last year? My DW has just started making a gosh-awful noise, so I'm dead in the water until I open her up and see what I see. Anyway, here's 3 SG patterns I cut out when I got started out last year. Oh, and one of the eggs lettering broke up bigtime when my sister-in-law dropped it on her floor (heavy sigh).7 points -
lion intarsia
Phantom Scroller and 6 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I ran across an Judy Gale Roberts intarsia pattern that I purchased some time ago and never got around to making it so I decided I would give it a try. I decided as I was cutting it, to put it into a frame with a painted backer board.I showed it to my neighbor as i was part way through the project and he suggested that I place a bead into the center of the eye instead of a dowel. I liked that idea and did that. I liked the results of it right away. Also I was wishing I had a Wonder Wheel so I could emphasize the hair in the lions mane. I decided to give my Dremel tool a try and see what I might be able to do it using it. It worked pretty well and I am happy with the results from it too. So overall I like the finished project fairly well. Still struggle with gluing and finishing my intarsia projects but a little happier than I normally am. Dick heppnerguy7 points -

Leopard Cut
Jim Blume and 3 others reacted to Insane Dust Maker for a topic
My latest cut is the Russ Beard Leopard, this is my fifth cut, it took me about between 40-50 hours to cut, to time is not an issue. The pattern was cut on a highly modified Marlet Scroll Saw (your Wen) using 1/4” Prime Ply Grade B/BB. Used approximately 4 Doz Niqua #1 & 2 Blades ( not much choice where I live). Finished with Rustins Danish Oil, then two coats Medium Oak wood stain, and the a final coat of clear Matt varnish. The frame is going to be pine if I can find straight pieces most of our pine looks like gem clips, once the frame is made I want to burn it with a blow torch and brush it with a wire brush until I’ve got a true rustic Africa feel to it and apply sanding sealer and some Gloss Clear Varnish.4 points -

Very well done...and good luck with your saw... seems to be the bearings2 points -
Nice work, we don’t care when you did it. However, I have to say usually when most folks use “DW” as an abbreviation, it usually refers to “darling wife” or maybe. “D$#@ wife” if upset with her. So, I first read that sentence as my darling wife so she was making aweful noise and wasn’t sure how you planned to open her up. Finally the brain worked and figured out you meant your saw, I’m assuming It’s a Dewalt.2 points

A couple of years ago I bought a Rikon variable speed grinder to sand and shape my intarsia pieces. The top picture is an adapter that I found that would fit a 5/8" shaft. For it to fit good I had to cut the threads off the grinder shaft. In December Rockler had the low speed grinder on sale so I bought one. The slower speed seems to work better for sanding and shaping. I decided I didn't want to cut the shaft off so I went to a machine shop and had an adapter made. Works great. Sure wasn't cheap but boys toys aren't.2 points

I did the same thing for an old furnace motor, but I had the end of the shaft threaded to fit a 1/2" Jacob's chuck. The motor is 1750 rpm, which I think is just right for sanding and shaping with larger bits. I had it done for free at a technical college I was teaching at. One of the students in the machining course got to thread a hardened shaft to fit the chuck, and I got a basically very versatile tool at low cost. Been using it for about 35 years now. Tom2 points

First Event of 2022
barb.j.enders reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
My first event of the year just ended, 2 days (Friday and Saturday). Large event with 160 vendors in a beautiful park. Weather was great, crowds were huge. I didn't make as much as I expected. Inflation is definitely tightening some wallets understandably. I sold a total of 62 pieces at an average price of $32.50 over the two days. Overall very happy. All vendors said the same thing "Sales were good, they just weren't fabulous." Next event in 2 weeks, one of my best 1 day events each year. See how it goes.1 point -
Anyone know what Alex Fox is putting hispatterns on to stick on the wood?
OCtoolguy reacted to nrscroller for a topic
Hi all, I thought I might try an Alex Fox pattern, anyone know what he puts his patterns on and then just sticks it on the wood? I wonder if it is full size shipping labels or what, it's something that peels off. Thanks Bill1 point -

I have never seen a lettering like this one on a Harley sign. Maybe you should contact Harley and offer to sell them the rights to this one. ha ha ha Actually it is very outstanding and is full of personality. Great project Dick heppnerguy1 point -
lion intarsia
Dak0ta52 reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Thank you. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I was not sure if I would like the end results when i started cutting it but I have to say I enjoyed making the piece and taking the extra time to mount is on a backer board and making a frame for it too. I think it inspired me a little that I probably with start another of my intarsia patterns that I have purchased and never taken the time to make. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
Dave, nice setup, how did you ever make out with your sander or bandsaw that the company wasn’t helping, RJ1 point

I used to sell Ca glue and Accelerator when I worked in a hobby shop. Accelerator is not necessary. Just blow on it and the moisture from your breath will accelerate it just as well.1 point
